bhy··on Rewind.ai now available for iPhone
Do they send any data to OpenAI or any other cloud based LLM?
bhy··on Retentive Network: A Successor to Transformer for Large Language Models
RWKV has 14B version.
bhy··on LLM Powered Autonomous Agents
Yes.
bhy··on Llama.cpp: Full CUDA GPU Acceleration
Well I just spent an hour to diagnose the build failure of llama.cpp due to it picking up wrong nvcc path.

Dependency problem still happens even with C/C++.

bhy··on User Driven UI
What you achieved is impressive. Could you share how did you do that?
bhy··on The Dual LLM pattern for building AI assistants that can resist prompt injection
Yes. But all current LLMs only deal with plain texts, so they can’t be type safe in that sense.
bhy··on How are you using ChatGPT internally at your company?
Did you try GPT4? The quality are far better.
bhy··on Double-slit time diffraction at optical frequencies
Here you go:

Imagine you and your friend are playing with flashlights in a dark room. You shine your flashlights on a wall with two small openings (slits) close to each other. When the light from both flashlights goes through these openings and reaches the other side, you notice a cool pattern on the wall with light and dark lines. This is called an interference pattern, and it happens because light behaves like a wave.

Now, in this experiment, scientists did something similar but instead of using two small openings on a wall, they created two very short moments in time when light could pass through. They called these moments "time slits." They used a special material called Indium-Tin-Oxide and high-power infrared light to create these time slits.

When they looked at how the light changed after going through these time slits, they saw a pattern similar to the one you'd see with the two openings on the wall. But, they were surprised to find that the pattern had more lines than they expected based on the current understanding of how light interacts with the material.

This discovery means that the material changes much faster than previously thought, and it challenges the theories scientists had so far. This experiment also opens the door for creating new materials that can control light in exciting ways, like making it go backward or changing its path. These new materials could be useful in many areas, like making better computers and improving communication technologies.

bhy··on Ask HN: What lesser-known accessories do you use with your computer?
Yes. The keywords are "semiconductor cooling pad" or "thermoelectric cooling pad".
bhy··on It looks like you’re trying to take over the world
Don’t miss the link to the HQU Colab notebook at the end!
bhy··on Ask HN: Should we own the free stuff we pay for?
By doing this you are trusting the .contact gTLD provider. Do you have idea how reliable are they? Would they reclaim your domain for some reason?
bhy··on Consumption of coffee and tea and risk of developing stroke and dementia
I read that some studies have shown even decaffeinated coffee have health benefits. It's not only because of the caffeine.
bhy··on Ask HN: What you up to? (Who doesn't want to be hired?)
Apart from philosophy mentioned by the other poster, you can also read into psychology. Some branches in psychology deal with the question of how to live a fulfilled life, eg. positive psychology [1] and humanistic psychology [2]. Also Buddhism has similar goal and teachings interleave with these psychology topics [3].

To start, you can pick a Psychology 101 textbook (I like Psychology and Life [4]) and then read the people and bibliography mentioned in these Wikipedia articles.

bhy··on An unexpected victory: container stacking at the port of Los Angeles
From what I heard, the real issue is the ships are not bringing these containers back, because: 1. there's not so much good for US to export (volume-wise); 2. shipping price is so high that to save time, ships do not wait to load empty containers.

As long as US has a net import of containers, whatever buffer created will be filled up soon.

bhy··on The road to OCaml 5.0
Python type checking (type annotation, mypy) should at least partially solve the problem of maintaining complex Python systems. Though it doesn't help with performance.
bhy··on Sriracha hit revenue of $150M a year with no sales team or ad spend
This reminds me a Chinese chili sauce brand called Lao Gan Ma. [1] The founder is a woman, who started the business as a road side shop selling hand made chili sauce. Now it sales more than half a billion dollars per year.

They do not run advertisement too. The founder also insisted on some distinguished principles such as not taking any debt, not own supplier money, and not getting listed in stock market.

The sauce is often named as a necessity for Chinese studying or working aboard. You can simply mix it with rice or noddles and have a delicious meal.

If you like spicy Chinese food, you should give it a try.

bhy··on China lands rover on Mars
Just remember, by your definition, the US "stole" textile technology from the UK. [1]

bhy··on China lands rover on Mars
Assuming the Zhurong Mars rover can be successfully released in the next few days, China will become the second country in the world with a working rover on Mars.
bhy··on How a flawed idea is teaching millions of kids to be poor readers (2019)
The algorithm, which works quite close to the way you described, is called "beam search": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beam_search
bhy··on Ask HN: What automation tools have you used to replace mundane activities?
My kid just drop by when I was looking at your site and pointed out the flag you have for Sri Lanka seems a bit wrong - the lion in the flag is missing. :)

Anyway, great work to build such a useful site!

bhy··on The NBA Feels a Backlash in China After a Tweet Supporting Hong Kong
That's not logical. Democratic or not is an unrelated issue. The people can still be patriot on this matter.
bhy··on The NBA Feels a Backlash in China After a Tweet Supporting Hong Kong
How do you know that? How many Chinese people have you talked with?
bhy··on The NBA Feels a Backlash in China After a Tweet Supporting Hong Kong
If American are offended by the violation of free speech, they should boycott NBA like the Chinese do.
bhy··on Protester shot in chest by live police round during Hong Kong protests
What I heard is that they only protest on weekends? Are they doing it everyday now?

> All of well of Hongkoners I know myself either: 1.) ran away to Mainland, 2.) ran away to Vancouver, 3.) are on the streets right now

So, among them, what kind runs away, and what kind goes to the street?

bhy··on Protester shot in chest by live police round during Hong Kong protests
Today is China's National Day. That probably heat up the conflict.
bhy··on Protester shot in chest by live police round during Hong Kong protests
> Several protesters have already been "disappeared", and there are many stories coming out of brutal torture against activists.

Are these backed by evidence, or just rumours? Of course the protestors will blame the police, and the police may blame the protestors too.

bhy··on Protester shot in chest by live police round during Hong Kong protests
> Most of activists are children of very well off people

Do you have data or reference to back them? Surely there could be rich kids among the protestors, but is that a majority of them?
