But then everytime I see posts like these on the US medical system (and UK, Israel etc.), it gets me to think how awesome the Indian medical system is.
I dont know much about the US medical system, but I always wonder why just banning all medical insurance be a better system than what is there currently. For those who can't afford, just setup one govt. funded hospital in every district. What am I missing ?

1. Reduce expenses as much as you can.
2. Get your wife a paying job if that is possible.
3. Save enough to be able to live off the next 4 years without earning anything.
4. If 3. is not possible, then start something on the side.
5. If savings plus side income gives you runway for 4 years, then you are good to quit and focus fulltime.
6. Dont use your wife's savings to pay the bills. That is just fall back. If you are using up wife's savings/income, then it is right time to start looking for a job.
7. Consider moving into a more comfortable job, which gives you more free time for side hustle.
However, you can have large general purpose instances which do not have to depend on federation to deliver the value of a network like twitter. Additionally, mastodon itself has grown by leaps and bounds in making the UX easier for the average user familiar to twitter/facebook.
I think its only a question of time before you have large general purpose mastodon instances where users dont have to grapple with federation and the UX becomes familiar for the layman. But at the same time there is space for smaller community focussed instances if someone wants to take their tribe with them.
Mastodon might not be the next twitter, but maybe it has already succeeded as a refuge for people not wanting to be on twitter. The bigger problem mastodon has is that its servers are running full to take on new people.
We have been running a few instances of mastodon which now have more space for new users. Link in my bio if anyone wants to use them, but might run out anytime.
