bhhaskin··on xAI joins SpaceX
Let's call it for what it is, a payday for Elon. Paper billionaires have figured out they cannot cash out with out tanking their paper, so now you have these circular deals to extract as much as possible. If we had a functioning government they would step in and put an immediate stop to this on national security grounds.
bhhaskin··on AI controls is coming to Firefox
This isn't what users wanted at all. You flat out ignored them. Users want this as a browser extension and not shoved down their throats.
bhhaskin··on Mozilla is building an AI 'rebel alliance' to take on OpenAI, Anthropic
Mozilla you have one job. Make the browser. That's it, that's all you need to do!
bhhaskin··on Amazon One palm authentication discontinued
Sure, but that isn't what it was being used for, and all of those places already have access control systems.
bhhaskin··on "We're aware of the DMCA takedown notice of julialang logo by an OF creator"
It should be fraud.
bhhaskin··on TeraWave Satellite Communications Network
And my guess would be multiple beams for redundancy.
bhhaskin··on Palantir CEO Says AI to Make Large-Scale Immigration Obsolete
There is a reason why you are seeing a ton of humanoid robots in development. They just don't have the software to make them viable yet.
bhhaskin··on Dell UltraSharp 52 Thunderbolt Hub Monitor
I second the U4025QW. It's fantastic and the built in KVM is great.
bhhaskin··on ChatGPT wrote "Goodnight Moon" suicide lullaby for man who later killed himself
I think it's anyone with mental health issues, not just suicidal ideations. They are designed to please the user and that can be very self destructive.
bhhaskin··on Iran Goes Into IPv6 Blackout
They don't have that many rockets that are capable of orbital flight let alone an ASAT capability.

Imagine trying to hit a specific speeding car by throwing a dart from another moving car, except Both cars are invisible most of the time. They’re moving 17,000 mph. The dart has no steering wheel only tiny nudges. If you miss by a few feet, you miss by miles.

Countries that can do this reliably aren’t showing off missiles they’re showing off navigation, sensors, computing. The weapon is the least impressive part.

bhhaskin··on Iran Goes Into IPv6 Blackout
Iran does not have that capability. But that would also be an act of war.
bhhaskin··on Lotusbail npm package found to be harvesting WhatsApp messages and contacts
I think you miss understood. If the OS becomes the arbiter of what can and cannot be accessed; it's a slippery slope to the OS becoming a walled garden that only approved apps and developers are allowed to operate. Of course that is a pretty large generalization, but we already see it with mobile devices and are starting to see it with windows and Mac OS.

I don't think we should be handing more power to OS makers and away from users. There has to be a middle ground between wall gardens and open systems. It would be much better for node & npm to come up with a solution than locking down access.

bhhaskin··on Lotusbail npm package found to be harvesting WhatsApp messages and contacts
This sounds great on paper, but what happens when the OS isn't working for the user like Windows?
bhhaskin··on Firefox will have an option to disable all AI features
It should be a plugin. Anything that isn't directly related to the core mission of a web browser should be a plugin.
bhhaskin··on The RAM shortage comes for us all
I think you are vastly underestimating how a modern fab works. The average cost is 10 billion and takes a about 10 years to build. They are very complex and even the slightest issue can ruin yields. There is a reason why there are so few.
bhhaskin··on The RAM shortage comes for us all
Only if you put up the 10 billion dollars.
bhhaskin··on I am stepping down as the CEO of Mastodon
Here is the thing. None of that matters to me. The only thing that matters is the people I follow.
bhhaskin··on I am stepping down as the CEO of Mastodon
Mastodon has been great. The platform and generally most users aren't trying to constantly sell me something or influence me. It people sharing their lives, hobbies and passion. Influencers don't bother because it doesn't have the massive following and reach other platforms have, but that's part of what makes it special imo.
bhhaskin··on Why AC is cheap, but AC repair is a luxury
A Heat pump is just AC with more valves.
bhhaskin··on Tiny electric motor can produce more than 1,000 horsepower
And here is the problem. They are already supposed to be speed limited if it's an e-bike. It's easy to tell the difference between a bicycle and a motorcycle, but the difference between an e-bike and electric motorcycle is far more subtle. And most electric motorcycles lie and market themselves as e-bikes.
bhhaskin··on Tiny electric motor can produce more than 1,000 horsepower
There is a big issue in the US currently with people buying electric motorcycles that look like e-bikes.
bhhaskin··on Bamboo Tissue Paper May Not Be as Eco-Friendly as You Think
This is a bit silly. Of course something manufactured and shipped across the world is going to have a bigger environmental impact than something produced locally.
bhhaskin··on GooglePlay reports latest F-Droid version of Aves Libre as potential malware
According to the thread this was resolved two weeks ago. Very odd to post about this now.
bhhaskin··on DOGE might be storing every American's SSN on an insecure cloud server
SSNs where never meant to be secret. It's an ID not a password. You can thank banks and credit card companies for treating them like a verification system.
bhhaskin··on Kevo app shutdown
Connected stuff is fine, but who owns the connection matters.
bhhaskin··on Steam, Discord, Twitch, Reddit to testify before Congress over 'radicalization'
The government is going to make a play for the Internet. It might not be today or tomorrow, but it will happen. They want to be able to control everything you say, see and do; especially who with.
bhhaskin··on 10Gb Starlink for Royal Carribean Ships
A ship will likely have multiple uplinks, not to mention a lot of on board caching.
bhhaskin··on OpenAI Grove
I think the majority of people don't care about YC. It just happens to be the most popular tech forum.
bhhaskin··on Claude’s memory architecture is the opposite of ChatGPT’s
I completely agree. LLMs only do call and response. Without the call there is no response.
bhhaskin··on OpenAI Employee Stock Sale Would Value ChatGPT Maker at $500B
AI isn't, but we don't have AI. We have LLM and ML.
