bgoldste··on Show HN: TodoBot is an AI coach that helps you write a better todo list
Looks super handy, thank you!
bgoldste··on Show HN: WikTok – A Recommendation UI for Wikipedia
Really enjoying this, thanks for sharing!
bgoldste··on A broken man's homemade, seaworthy ship rests in the Canadian prairie (2015)
I had the exact same thought.
bgoldste··on I wanted a beautiful computer and couldn't find one, so I made my own
These are great resources, thanks for sharing!
bgoldste··on Tell HN: My child's first program
Adorable. Interesting that mindstorms didn’t take while Python did.

I’d kind of assume the opposite, since MS is more tangible and easier to visualize.

bgoldste··on Show HN: npm install chatgpt
This is sweet, looking forward to playing around with this!
bgoldste··on Tell HN: Elon Musk Removes Login Prompt for Twitter
I hope other social media companies follow suit. As someone who tries to stay off social media as much as possible, I find those login walls really annoying.

On the flip side, they help keep me more fully off of those sites..

bgoldste··on Great tools choose to be bad at some things
Good post.

Instead, choose to be bad at something.

This is so critical for making things. “What am I not doing?” Is almost as important as the positive version of the question.

bgoldste··on Ask HN: Fastest Language for a CRUD App
Django is really excellent. A bit of overhead if you’re coming from flask but it makes things so smooth.
bgoldste··on Teenage Engineering Choir
Like (almost) everything else they make, I want it, have no need for it, and can’t afford it.

Some of the pocket stuff is pretty affordable though.

bgoldste··on Ask HN: When should you leave a company?
If you're asking this question, you may already have an answer.

I do think people tend to slightly overstate the learnings that you can get in a startup, and vice versa.

After 1 year, you're ok to leave at this point though a little longer is probably more ideal.

bgoldste··on Turn a still image into an animated GIF by distorting parts of it
Cool. Might try this for creating some assets in the future.
bgoldste··on Startup Restructuring 101
Did not realize 'tabus' was the plural of taboo. Anyone else?
bgoldste··on Could you be a web designer?
Wow, this was tough (but fun). BTW it looks like there's an error on the help text for the opacity question:

"The correct answer is B. In case you're curious, B has a border radius of 5px, C is 15px, and D is 7px." should likely be something about opacity.

bgoldste··on Startups are an act of desperation
Perhaps something like “hunger” might be a better term
bgoldste··on Considering a Bootcamp? Like Everything in Software, the Answer Is “It Depends”
The age old question, to bootcamp or bootstrap?

Note - clipped the original title a bit to fit HN guidelines.

bgoldste··on Using Rust at a startup: A cautionary tale
This guy startups.
bgoldste··on Edgar Allan Poe: Pioneering Mollusk Scientist
Reminds me of another fabulous author, Nabokov, with similar fascinations, but for butterflies. [1]

There is something so exhilarating to me about these polyglots who can produce some of the best literature in the last 200 years whilst also finding time for scientific work.

bgoldste··on Laid Off? 5 Reasons Now Is the Perfect Time to Learn to Code
Author here! I spent years lurking on HN before I took the plunge and decided to learn to code. I think this moment could be a great chance for those affected by layoffs to do similarly.
bgoldste··on In Praise of Blackboxes When Learning to Code
Author here, thought I'd share my experience with 'blackboxes' one might encounter as they're getting started on their hacker journey. Would love any feedback from the HN community!

bgoldste··on Ask HN: Are CO salary disclosure laws affecting remote work opportunities?
I spoke with a recruiter who works for a VC firm and hires for many of their portfolio companies yesterday. She mentioned the difficulty here, but framed it as a reasonable + manageable lift a company would make for a sufficiently senior hire. EG Director+, sure, for a single junior sales or CS role, maybe not so much. Don't think there was anything she took issue with here aside from a little extra logistics work.

bgoldste··on Ask HN: Did you see increase in site usage when making websites mobile friendly?
what verticals are these sites in?
bgoldste··on MyTime raises $9.3M to build mobile-first local business scheduling
Congrats guys! Really nice people + great engineering team.
bgoldste··on Level Playing Field
amen. take my data, take my liberty, but you'll never take my healthy self doubt of your true motives.
bgoldste··on Ask HN: How do you read technical books?
These are great suggestions. Also comforting to know that I'm not the only one who needs to go through these slowly.

Since you've been so selective with books, what do you recommend?

bgoldste··on Ask HN: How do you read technical books?
I have a nook (needed a reader and couldn't wait for amazon shipping. Retail's not dead!). I'll load up pdfs/ebooks to it and read them when I'm commuting. It's pretty convenient but I do often wish I had a real textbook for really heavy stuff, though probably don't want to either lug that around or even read it on a commute.
bgoldste··on Ask HN: New to SF--where do I meet people?
I'd be down to at least grab a drink, is there a non creepy way to get in touch from hn?
