There doesn’t seem to be any indication whether this is available in the chat-got app nor is there any indication in the app that anything has changed. Anyone know how to actually try this?

Heard of it?

This is the laughing Ray Liotta meme equivalent of journalism. All too common right now.

Former Albertan here. Alberta even griped about unfair treatment when their conservative party had a majority in Ottawa for almost a decade. It’s just what people have learned to say.

It was put into place after Quebec held a referendum that was close in 1995. Canada remedied the situation by making clear what it would take to leave.

I agree with what you’re saying, but I think that email was one of the first parts the web to become terrible. This happened a long time ago, we’re just used to it.

They’re literally using an LLM to write the email. They could make the disclaimer text detailed and descriptive per email sent. So the use case they’re citing here that “well what if it’s just an email that was forwarded by the bot” doesn’t apply because you could add a different disclaimer message at the bottom of that email vs the spam example above.

Thanks so much for this write up. It’s not often thought of that when you put something weird and experimental online just for fun that you’re signing up for years of careing and feeding. But that’s also kind of nice, it makes you go engage with your cool thing long after your impulse drove you to make it.

This is a cool thing. I hope you enjoyed remembering about it again today.

Unfortunately it’s almost a TB of video. The project is opensource so you could run the pipeline to grab all the videos yourself. https://github.com/bfeist/ask-an-astronaut

I would love to, but the video metadata is entirely lacking. All I have is a filename and an uploaded date—not even an accurate date of when it was recorded.

Possibly. The translation aspect makes the timing a bit more complex to work out. When I was building this out, I considered English only to be version one.

Nice to see this here. I’m the developer who made this. The idea for this started when I was chatting with co-creator, Dave Charney and we asked, “I wonder if all the questions kids could ask of astronauts have already been asked.”

If you select “About this project”, there are technical details on how we did it.

I would love an app like this. I am a frequent user of https://www.boringreport.org/ for news, which does something like what you’re describing but for news articles.

100% agree that this is what it should be called. To argue that big websites being big makes them equivalent to the whole Internet is absurd. Besides, I love the idea of the only recourse to be to go back to independently run information websites.

Awesome. You don’t happen to have 25 years of recorded telemetry, do you?

Yes and no. I have 7+ years and counting of telemetry recordings but I don't know of a resource that would let me get all of it historically. If you know of one, please let me know. The recordings that I do have will be integrated into the website at some point. I was going to do it as part of the initial launch but I ran out of time.

Very cool! Your idea about auto-generating timelapse videos was taken up by NASA. https://eol.jsc.nasa.gov/BeyondThePhotography/CrewEarthObser...

Hello. NASA person and contributor to the ALSJ here. This is a volunteer effort that is one of the oldest websites on the internet (and most awesome). The original transcripts are public domain, but the commentary here is what’s under some copyright. That said, it’s online for the greater good. I hope you enjoy it.

I think you just perfectly described the Internet.

What’s with this headline? This was a test launch with no payload that wasn’t expected to achieve orbit.

Creator of apolloinrealtime.org here. I work on the ISS program now. Hat’s off, sir.

A Netflix documentary about it is coming out in the fall

That Twitter thread (as most are) is poison.

Yes, but he failed to predict the lameness that is MS Teams.

Your post reminded me of this: https://www.theonion.com/find-the-thing-youre-most-passionat...

I took the opposite path. I did actually do the other thing on evenings and weekends for many years. In my case I never dreamed that it would result in a job in the other field, but I’m 7 years in at the other field now and will never look back.

Where is negative population growth a concern? I’m concerned about the opposite.

This is a great example of a YouTube video that should have been an article.

Live by the sword; die by the sword.

I can see the benefit of flooding and it’s great to see that the government is managing the forest, but there is almost no information in this video. It’s YouTube pocket lint.
