This isn't about one downvote. After 5 years I never reached the 501 karma required just to downvote, a basic function. That's a system that rewards conformity while suppressing dissent.
When I updated this bio with critique, the moderator asked if I wanted my account closed. When I pressed for an explanation, and pointed out how downvotes coincided with my emails, I got silence. That silence is its own answer.
HN isn't an open forum. It's internet feudalism: users generate the content, the lords guard the system, and feedback about that arrangement is unwelcome. That's why I'm done.
They can do whatever they want on their platform (including what would arguably be considered abusive), and we can continue to bring attention to their mistreatment of us outside it.
Carriers don't really contribute much to the UI or force you to use a particular phone. This comment doesn't make any sense.
Reddit just does not respect their users anymore. Their content policy is enforced erratically at the whim of whatever current internal political environment is going on inside their company. I gave this company subscription money for years, purchased hundreds of dollars in rewards, and it absolutely meant nothing because of one employee wanting to cover their tracks.
Regardless, the attitude that they're "god" is a weird way to put it. They randomly IP banned me for calling out an admin's publicity issue during an April fools event. That's cronyism. I've used Reddit for 12 years and engaged in conversations in good faith for years. Paid for subscriptions most of that time. All relationships, business or otherwise should be mutual in some form.
