Telecom eng., but you will downvote anyway. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peering List of truisms you believe and thus want to downvote me: 0) ISPs charge both ends 1) ISPs intentionally make your tube, flix, etc experience miserable 3) Everything should be 'unlimited' 4) Bandwidth is basically free

Liberals in canada call that 'making housing affordable', https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/prime-minist...

It feels that in Canada business is impossible unless it's directly funded by the government.

That's 'normal' in Canada and France.

The same tactic is in the USA. Like every new AI datacenter has ~10 tax waiver + explicit subsidies + favorable loans, etc, etc.

betaby··on Facebook is paying people overseas promoting Alberta separatism
If Facebook propaganda is so effective (and cheap) Western democracies should promote democratic values in Belarus/Kazakhstan.

Canada should use this channel to promote tariff cancellation in the USA.

I doubt that Facebook is efficient on important matter. If I'm wrong then Canadian government is doing very bad job in promoting democratic values in and outside Canada.

Probably not. Those DBs are fake most ( all ? ) the time.

betaby··on The world in which IPv6 was a good design (2017)
Most people browse Facebook/Youtube over IPv6 as a matter of fact and that work perfectly.
betaby··on IPv6 traffic crosses the 50% mark
Nobody is demanding IPv4 either. Or Ethernet. People buy "Wi-Fi", literally "Wi-Fi", not Internet access.

betaby··on 4Chan mocks £520k fine for UK online safety breaches
The article above is about US ISP ordered to block sites for US customer. Not 'globally' enforced. Important difference.

Ofcourse, everybody ( well, outside the UK ) are OK if UK orders UK ISPs blocks sites for their customers.

betaby··on FBI is buying location data to track US citizens, director confirms
IP is often enough to correlate things. LittleSnich or whatever is no help - oftentimes data is collected by the app/site directly, and then funneled to various systems via kafka-like brokers. In this case you always have only cobbections to something like cool-application-domain.au

Unlikely. Also it doesn't work well where it needed in the EU.

> But when this happens to the educated professional class, all hell breaks loose.

If the programmers fall into the "educated professional class", then no, not in Canada. I personally know people with engineering/science degrees who became "warehouse sorters", baristas, metal workers, parcel deliverers, cooks in cafeteria. Some of them eventually found programming jobs again, others are still employed in blue collar/service jobs after 3+ years.
