benregn··on Why I Play Video Games
Would love to hear your thoughts on Netrunner: Android! Been thinking about getting into it but a bit unsure if it's something my significant other can get into as well.
benregn··on Hopscotch – easy product tours by LinkedIn
Are there any product tour libraries that can detect interaction with the application being presented?
benregn··on Shortcat - Keyboard productivity app for Mac OS X
Heh, it is a bit. The reason is probably the uncanny valley effect[1].

benregn··on Building a Hacker News clone in Django - Part 1 (Screencast)
I agree with you on that. I didn't mean to say that the idea or the video wasn't good.
benregn··on Building a Hacker News clone in Django - Part 1 (Screencast)
Maybe this is a nitpick but I'd revise the opening sentance: "There is no better way to learn something than to watch someone else do it".

I think we can all agree that when it comes to programming the _best_ way to learn it is to actually program.

benregn··on Show HN: Save Memory in Google Chrome
I've tried several times now and I'm still getting "Manifest file is invalid".
benregn··on Show HN: My first Android app - Hacker News reader
Nice app! If you are going to keep the ads (I'd rather pay something like $1), please show them on the frontpage compared to when I'm reading the article. Also it would be nice if it would not reload the frontpage every time I come back from reading an article.
benregn··on Ask HN: What kind of games are fun to make?
Think about what kind of games you like to play, choose one of them and try to simplify it down to the bare minimum, no fluff. Then start making the most basic feature and continue from there.

benregn··on RethinkDB: An open-source distributed database built with love over three years
I'm a relatively new Mac user and never used MacPorts. When I search brew I get these results:

$ brew search gcc

apple-gcc42 gcc

homebrew/versions/gcc45 homebrew/versions/llvm-gcc28

I'm a bit confused since I thought that these are gcc. Can someone tell me what those results mean? :S

benregn··on I am a 14 year old programmer. I'm stuck.
Could you point out some of the projects that have those beginner type lists? Could be useful as a starting point.
benregn··on Show HN: Attach.io, a new way to simply share files
Seems a bit similar to http://ge.tt/ - They also feature a drag-and-drop uploading, with 2GB for free, user registration and an API with wrappers for a few languages. Two features from them that you should maybe consider is a) to automatically start uploading when files are dropped on the site and b) if no file has been dropped on the site and the user clicks the upload button, present them with a file chooser.

Otherwise, nice job. I like the simplicity of the design, but it is a bit bottom heavy because of the big, black button.

benregn··on Ask HN: Is there any site to find open source projects needing developers?
Gun.io already has that covered, at least in the States (for now).
benregn··on Ask HN: Just ordered my first Mac- what apps should I know about?
Just out of curiosity, what makes Quicksilver more powerful than Alfred?
benregn··on Show HN: My weekend project - NewsMap
I agree with that. My first instinct was to click the newspaper names, then I noticed the 'Go' column.
benregn··on Introducing Google Drive... yes, really
Those old planes will no longer be offered - you'll have to switch to the per month payments when the old subscription.
benregn··on Learn about Startups with YC at Carnegie Mellon University today (Apr 5th, 6pm)
Wish I could see it. Anyone know if this is going to be broadcast?

"After enabling the survey on a popular post, I had almost 80 responses after just a day. 14% of users preferred screencasts, 41% preferred articles, and 45% thought both were good."

If this popular post was an article, it is not surprising that majority or the survey takers preferred articles since they were already reading an article. This is called sampling bias. How would the result look like if the survey was conducted on a page with a screencast. In that case people might favor screencasts.

benregn··on Books every self-taught computer scientist should read
It's just honest to state that they are affiliate links, regardless of he deserves the revenue or not.
benregn··on Ask HN: What are good free project management tools?
Trello.com can be adapted for a variety of projects. It's free and is from a respected software firm, Fog Creek.
benregn··on Waking up at 5am to code
You are talking about Trello from Fog Creek.
benregn··on UK Schools ICT to be replaced by computer science programme
I loved the picture's caption accompanying the article: "Schools will be free to use teaching resources that will equip pupils for the 21st Century". The picture then shows young pupils using aging CRTs. It made me smile :)
benregn··on Ask HN: Startups - Education background
Thanks for a great reply. What are you doing today?
benregn··on Ask HN: Startups - Education background
Were you an journalist/editor for a magazine related to biochemistry?

BTW, nice looking product. How is the traction? The text in #818181 was a bit hard for me to read, have you done any A/B testing on the main page?

benregn··on Ask HN: Startups - Education background
I see, thanks for your answer!

I agree with you on the site's looks, very uninviting... And that damn animated button in the right corner drives me crazy.
benregn··on Twitter Bootstrap
Also curious about the hackathon toolkit, what's in it?
benregn··on Ask HN: What is your favorite work music?
I often listen to Sneaker Pimps, Four tet, Massive Attack, Thievery Corporation, Röyksopp and Air... I like to mix it up as well (aka. shuffle)!
