You have sympathy for the other companies because they're spread out in the Bellevue/Seattle/Kirkland/Redmond region vs primarily being situated Westlake/SLU?
Your argument doesn't make sense to me.
I don't think Amazon is too big. People just shit on them because their jobs are mostly on the SLU area and do well at highlighting the wealth or income disparity in downtown vs someone like MSFT who is further out in places like Downtown Bellevue and Redmond, where there are hardly any homeless people.
On the east side, 405 traffic is just as horrible as I5 is next to Mercer. You can't pin that all on Amazon.
Not that it would necessarily doom their company, but I'm actually relieved I never invested in them. Too much of a rollercoaster IMO.
I've read horror stories about the poor engineers at AWS who are on call and have to detail with physical pagers paging them at various hours of the night. Systems fail, dependencies fail, shit happens... So now you will need to hire some small team to do these things for you.
I'm not saying you never need to be concerned with any of these things if you're on Azure or AWS.
I am saying that you need to factor in these components into your costs.
Infrastructure management might not be a core competency at my company. That's why I pay some premium but hand it off to the Azures and AWS's of the world.
Is hosting your own database cluster at some other company for a smaller monthly fee actually saving you money each month? What are the other costs to your business from making the move?
The answer could be yes, it's cheaper and makes 100% business sense. All I'm saying is these questions have to be asked, investigated and concluded. Arguing on one side or another without going through these steps is shortsighted.
Then there are folks who don't need and don't care for any of this. They don't want to work. Any housing you give them will have shit smeared on the walls or needles everywhere.
The people who we can legitimately help are some smaller subset of the population.
Throwing more money at thid problem isn't going to make it go away. It's literally just punishing the rest of us here who work 80 hour weeks and hardly ever see our kids. We can't save money because the socialist morons in our government want to give everything away.
I own a 1400 square ft home with wife and three kids. At some point, I'm not motivated to work harder if I have to give more and more away instead of saving for retirement or my children's college.
