beginnercounter··on At 88, Poker Legend Doyle Brunson Is Still Bluffing. Or Is He?
Have you tried playing a live poker game in a casino? Beating this type of game has very little to do with playing a non exploitable strategy. Even up to 5/10 you have recs playing completely unbalanced so it’s better to just size your bets to get max value from worse hands or make better hands fold. Nobody is going to exploit you in a 2-3 hour session for doing this.
beginnercounter··on Ask HN: How do I deal with high levels of formaldehyde in my apartment?
What sort of professional am I looking for? I don’t mind spending money.
beginnercounter··on Ask HN: How do I deal with high levels of formaldehyde in my apartment?
They added vinyl flooring and new appliances right before I moved in. I’m unsure about foam but I can ask. This building is from the 90s if I remember correctly.

Is 300ppb considered low? I am currently keeping the levels below 150ppb by keeping the windows all wide open which is difficult for long with the desert heat.

beginnercounter··on Computers are an oppressive technology
My cat doesn't devour me. It cuddles me.
beginnercounter··on How to make decisions like a poker player
The author sounds like a losing poker player. If my calling frequency is based entirely on pot odds, a good opponent would just start bluffing me out of every pot by increasing their bet size to a point where I can’t profitably call.
beginnercounter··on Ask HN: Has anyone built a poker bot?

It seems like you have no experience in this area. If your issue is the overall post, why don't you just report it instead of complaining to me in the comments?

beginnercounter··on Ask HN: Has anyone built a poker bot?
I'm looking for discussion around computer vision, AI etc. This comment isn't really adding much.

If all the opponents were bots then I'd agree that it would be hard to make a profit. But have you tried playing micro stakes? There are some very bad human players making mistakes on a regular basis. Particularly on weekend nights. The bot just needs to break even against other bots and beat weak human players.
beginnercounter··on Show HN: I built a Blackjack basic strategy training app
Hey all, I recently got into blackjack and built an app to teach myself basic strategy charts. I thought I’d release it to the public.

It lets you practice specific scenarios like soft hands or hands with unintuitive correct moves (e.g. 9/9 vs 7, stand). I’m working on adding analytics for things like which hands the user gets wrong most often.

If you're curious, the charts are all based on ones from Wizard of Odds. Also, it simulates a shoe behind the scenes so you can practice card counting (not randomized each hand).

There's no mobile support yet but I plan to add it if people find it useful.
