beeboop··on Blind: Meta's office to be closed on Wed – 15% layoff (5% Eng 50% recruiting)
I've never liked this logic. In almost any circumstance a "median" isn't a perfect point on a plot. Saying "half of the world is below average intelligence" is just dumb because you could easily argue 75% of them are "average" and not above or below average.

Mainstream media is also full of false rumors
beeboop··on The most unethical thing I was asked to build while working at Twitter in 2015
Elon removed the modal and login requirements

Both spellings are accepted.

This is about on par with people ordering "Kiev Mules" instead of "Moscow Mules"
beeboop··on Musk’s Twitter purchase was a leveraged buyout
Doing nothing would literally bankrupt Twitter. It's massively unprofitable.
beeboop··on Tim Berners-Lee: Web3 is not the web
Maybe not "first class" but there are definitely 6" tablet options running Windows.
beeboop··on Twitter launches blue check for $7.99 monthly fee
Are you suggesting that mainstream media would use a twitter account with no former activity and no followers as a source for a news article?

Sounds about right

beeboop··on Ask HN: How do I thrive as part of an unambitious team?
You don't. You need to find another team.

Is an interest payment on a load only reflecting the risk of it and nothing else? What's the balance between the risk and other factors? What do rates usually look like on loans used for this purpose?

What is risky about the situation at hand from the lender's perspective? What is the scenario in which the lender isn't made whole?

beeboop··on Thoughts about Twitter
Cutting costs in a company that's almost never been profitable is failure? A huge layout isn't a suggestion of an unhealthy start, it's a suggestion of an unhealthy status quo.

What material business failings has Elon had so far that you would include in him failing upwards? Is Tesla and SpaceX successful despite Elon's bad decisions, and if so, what were those bad decisions?

beeboop··on Thoughts about Twitter
The measure of success isn't how much Twitter fell before he had anything to do with it. It's where it ends up after he's had more than a couple days to improve it.
beeboop··on Starlink Sets High-Speed Data Cap at 1TB per Month, Lowers Advertised Speeds
In what way are they lacking capacity?
beeboop··on Starlink Sets High-Speed Data Cap at 1TB per Month, Lowers Advertised Speeds
What's the scam?
beeboop··on As last module docks, China completes its space station
Same. Funny how US media completely blocks out positive stuff around China
beeboop··on As last module docks, China completes its space station
Western media cherry picks negative things about any country that isn't under the US's thumb. It's wild how much xenophobia US media causes that people aren't seeing, especially around Russia and Russians. Americans think of Russian leaders as awful people while also praising liberal US presidents that have continued death and destruction on foreign countries too.

Yes
beeboop··on Mastodon gained 70k users after Musk’s Twitter takeover
The people I know that use Twitter a lot are doing it mostly for conversation with a semi-known group of people around a niche topic (usually politics). Reddit is too anonymous and it doesn't allow you to hold grudges and be rude and mean to people with a known set of beliefs.
beeboop··on Mastodon gained 70k users after Musk’s Twitter takeover
Why is this a "takeover" and not a "purchase"? I assume because the Guardian has an axe to grind
beeboop··on Grabby Aliens: A Resolution to the Fermi Paradox
Pretty rude of them to bring us here and not leave a note
beeboop··on Grabby Aliens: A Resolution to the Fermi Paradox
If we're a simulation then there's no reason why alien life couldn't also be simulated unless there's a specific point to our simulation that the presence of alien life would interfere with. If there's a point to the simulation we're all experiencing I have no fucking clue what it is.

beeboop··on Why Men Are Hard to Help
Sample size 1, but I also had a relationship go downhill and eventually end after constant requests for me to be more vulnerable. I am convinced that people like the superficial appearance of vulnerability when it doesn’t matter and it’s low stakes. But not when it matters and gets messy

> Treating voters like sheep that vote on whatever is being advertised is naive and dangerous.

If this wasn’t true then why do modern presidential races spend hundreds of millions on advertising?
