bdotdub··on Show HN: Later Locker: for content that sucks on your mobile phone
I've thought about it, but bookmarklets on the iPhone (not sure about android) is exceedingly annoying. Marco Arment (Instapaper founder) wrote about his experience here: http://www.marco.org/2010/10/10/an-open-enhancement-request-...

It just queues up on the website, and thus no magic :(
bdotdub··on Show HN: Later Locker: for content that sucks on your mobile phone
If you keep the webpage open (extension to come), it'll open the link that you sent to the service. It'll be there waiting for you when you get back to your computer

See my reply to derek

bdotdub··on Show HN: Later Locker: for content that sucks on your mobile phone
There is! (if I understand correctly)

It's hacky, but if you keep the webpage open, any links you send from your mobile will "push" (technically, it pulls) to your browser!

Hey HN,

Just thought I'd show you guys something that I quickly threw together this weekend.

It's a webapp that for websites that suck on your iPhone/Android/mobile phone. Later Locker lets you email a link to the webpage to an email address and have it automatically appear on your computer. Sites like the http://nytimes.com or http://newegg.com are kind of annoying to view in your mobile browser. So, you send a link to the webpage from your phone and automatically appears on your desktop!

Still really rough, but would love any feedback/suggestions you guys have!

Using mailgun for parsing!

bdotdub··on Sequoia To Color Labs: Not Since Google Have We Seen This
Have you used the app? It a terrible first experience. I used it last night and had no one around me. In New York City. During dinner time. Most people probably open the app, don't get it / don't see people on it, and never open the app again
bdotdub··on Sequoia To Color Labs: Not Since Google Have We Seen This
While I do think that $41mm is crazy, I agree with unohoo. If they're getting that much money from Sequoia, you can sure as hell bet they're not investing in "just another photo sharing app".

Part of $41mm is because of the team, but I'm betting most of the money is because of the long term, ambitious vision they have for it. But to get there, they have to release a decidedly short term vision product and build from there. This is probably just the launching pad.

But still, $41mm before any sort of traction or any proof of a userbase is really crazy

bdotdub··on Sequoia gives photo-sharing startup more money than they gave Google
While I agree that the privacy of this feels a little weird, it's always opt in, just like 4sq is opt in. If you don't intend your photos to show up at a location, don't take photos on Color.
bdotdub··on Create web apps in JavaScript right from your browser
I think it was less about speed and more about trying to replace peoples' editor / workflow. People are very particular about the tools they use and putting the editor and deployment in the browser doesn't do much in terms of productivity (and probably more counterproductive than anything else)

bdotdub··on Show HN: 4square & 7 years ago: What were you doing a year ago?
A couple of friends and I created an app during the foursquare hack day that sends you an email of what you were doing a year ago.

A nice little hack to remind you where you were. Part nostalgic, part discovery (blackout nights), totally awesome :)

Enjoy!

bdotdub··on How and Why Chrome Is Overtaking Firefox Among Power Users
I started off being uncomfortable that I was using Chrome more and more. But it is a lot of little things that make it better. I'm on the dev channel, and some things might break, but having quick patches and updates is awesome.

Three things are holding me back to fully switching over:

- Awesome bar - its awesome

- Web Inspector <<<<< Firebug

- '/' to start searching (unless its there and i just dont know about it)

You're basing a lot of this off of current implementations of these websites. Which one of these could not be done (at least a large portion of it) in HTML5? Each of these seems like there is HTML5 functionality to enable most of the functions and features of these websites.

Howso? They've spent the money and the time to create a great platform. It seems well within their rights to dictate a lot of the rules around what goes on the platform they created.

And as mentioned above, they dont have a monopoly in the market so, from Apple's perspective, 'if you don't like it, there are other opportunities' ... developing for the bberry :)

While its true mobile ads suck, its not like others couldn't have done advertisements that are just as interactive as the ones Steve demoed. I'm feel like a large reason why they haven't become popular is because advertising companies don't have the know how to do this sort of thing.

That said, iAds will be successful just because its Apples advertising platform and very high profile.

I'm curious what you mean with the Warren Buffet comment. Running a tech startup and running Berkshire are completely different, so I'm not sure what sort of comparison you are making.
