bdibs··on Show HN: DeKarmaHN, a Chrome extension to hide karma and more
Decided to make this after this thread[0] earlier today, thinking it would be an easy way to see what it takes to make a web extension. It ended up being pretty underwhelming, but it works so I decided to release it.

It hides karma from the header and profile pages, removes comment points, and un-fades any comments that are faded.

bdibs··on Website scores kill our success, waste our time
I thought that sounded like a fun project to learn web extensions and decided to make a Chrome extension for that today: https://github.com/bdibs/DeKarmaHN. Hope it works for you.
bdibs··on Social Network Gab Goes Offline, Disappears from Twitter
Who's the they here? I thought they were hacked, not deplatformed by any of their service providers.
bdibs··on Show HN: Endgame – An AWS Pentesting tool to backdoor or expose AWS resources
It looks that way.

Looks like some of it was archived though at https://web.archive.org/web/20210216153239/https://github.co....

Also still live at PyPI: https://pypi.org/project/endgame/

bdibs··on [dead]
Thanks, I tried that before posting and it said everything was fine so I wondered if it was a regional issue.

bdibs··on Facebook Downgrades WikiLeaks Article Page
Monopoly of what though, social media? They don't have any bearing on my life, and I'm sure that's shared with many people here specifically. They aren't murdering people and they aren't stopping the water supply, food supply, or anything essential to anyone. It's Facebook, we all love to hate them, but them saying they don't want to platform a seller of something is hardly equivalent to the government imprisoning someone for speech.

Freedom goes both ways, folks. You don't have to like it, most people usually don't.
bdibs··on Spotify patent would suggest songs based on users' emotions
I posted this here a few days ago, I believe it’s talking about the same patent and seems to still be up:

bdibs··on PayPal introduces new fee for dormant accounts
Absolutely, otherwise they can shut down your account with $15k in it and hold it for 6 months. Ask me how I know, haha.
bdibs··on Mojeek: Independent search engine with its own spider
Are you worried at all about sites abusing the transparency to rank higher, given they would know what to focus on to do so?
bdibs··on Tell HN: Thank You Dang
Thank you, dang! Keep up the great work.
bdibs··on San Francisco voters approve taxes on highly paid CEOs, big businesses
> He dismisses fears that the surcharge will drive companies out of the city, saying the tax is modest in comparison to the cost of moving a business.

It doesn't seem like they're too worried about new businesses, they're just trying to hold the current ones hostage.

bdibs··on Spotify reportedly fighting with employees about hosting episodes of Joe Rogan
Except Rogan’s podcast is full length and unedited, which is exactly why he chose the format.
bdibs··on Ask HN: What is your favorite motto?
Pitter patter.
bdibs··on Stripe Checkout
I’ve had a lot of success with https://hex.pm/packages/stripity_stripe.
bdibs··on How Shopify reduced storefront response times with a rewrite
I’m aware that Ruby/Rails isn’t that quick, but it seems mind boggling that an 800ms server response time is considered tolerated, and 200ms is satisfying. I’ve never used Ruby in production so maybe my reference point is off and this is more impressive than I’m giving it credit for.
bdibs··on How Shopify reduced storefront response times with a rewrite
They mentioned caching full HTML responses so I'm guessing that's what they're doing.

bdibs··on When I raised my B2B SaaS’s prices
In that situation an email would have been nice, but just raising the price with no feature changes doesn’t warrant notification. Especially since existing customers would be charged their current rate anyways.
bdibs··on Cloudflare was down
It's up for me.
bdibs··on Ask HN: Best ways to retain qualified employees?
Culture and compensation. Make sure they’re managed well and focus on their growth as individuals, not only in the scope of your business.
bdibs··on A 28-year-old with no degree becomes a must read on the economy
I don't like this new trend where some people believe certain facts are political. A fact is a fact, no matter which "side" you're on.

For anyone else who was wondering, you can tap the top of the address bar on iOS Safari. I think it has to be expanded first. I didn’t know that and hope it helps.
bdibs··on Google bans Podcast Addict app over non-approved Covid-19 content
This is obviously overreach in my opinion, and (tangentially) might explain the bump in installs for my podcast player. I had a feature on COVID, guess I’m going to remove that... (I know that doesn’t protect the app from removal, but could delay it, I don’t know)
bdibs··on How we successfully handled 2.5x traffic in a week
1 to 100 is easier than 100M to 250M (made up numbers, but you get the point).
bdibs··on Ask HN: Why don't browsers have billing+shipping APIs? This would kill Amazon
Apple Pay does exactly this, shipping/billing address and all.
