bckr··on Learnings from building AI agents
Is there research solid knowledge on this?
bckr··on Switching Pip to Uv in a Dockerized Flask / Django App
I see. I encourage you to try it with larger projects and see if it makes a difference.

That said, the speed is only one reason I use it. I find its ergonomics are the best in the Python tools I’ve tried. For example it has better dependency resolution than poetry in my estimation, and you can use the uv run —-with command to try things before adding them to your environment.

bckr··on Switching Pip to Uv in a Dockerized Flask / Django App
Don’t think it does. You see the import errors when you run your code and you add the requirements to your project.
bckr··on Switching Pip to Uv in a Dockerized Flask / Django App
I would love to see that happen and see how astral responds. I would love to see uv get built into Python 4
bckr··on Switching Pip to Uv in a Dockerized Flask / Django App
Just try it. The hype is real. I stopped using pyenv, pyenv-virtualenv, poetry, and native pip because uv is just that sticky.

Just install it and try running something using the —-with flag. That’s where I became intrigued.

bckr··on Switching Pip to Uv in a Dockerized Flask / Django App
How complex are the requirements for this project?
bckr··on Switching Pip to Uv in a Dockerized Flask / Django App
This is kinda how I treat it. I figured that I have already set the requirements in the pyproject.toml file.

Should I be committing the lock file?

bckr··on Show HN: Tool to Automatically Create Organized Commits for PRs
I was just talking about writing a tool like this. Bookmarked. Thanks.
bckr··on Show HN: Claude Composer
Claude has been adding PYTHONPATH to test commands, and for some reason, the “don’t ask again” doesn’t stick for these types of commands. So I’ve been trying to get it to use make commands, which can modify the environment, and don’t trigger the same permission issues. Just now I finally put it in CLAUDE.md “always use make commands to run tests”. Haven’t seen yet whether it will stick.
bckr··on Show HN: Ask-human-mcp – zero-config human-in-loop hatch to stop hallucinations
I’ve tried putting “stop and ask for help” in prompts/rules and it seems like Cursor + Claude, up to 3.7, is highly aligned against asking for help.
bckr··on The ‘white-collar bloodbath’ is all part of the AI hype machine
“tragedy of the commons” is treated as a Theory of Human Nature when it’s really a religious principle underlying how we operate our society.
bckr··on The ‘white-collar bloodbath’ is all part of the AI hype machine
That’s not what major news outlets are for. I’m not sure exactly what they’re for.
bckr··on Ask HN: What projects do you donate to?
I give to Save the Children. It's been around since the early 20th century and started specifically to help the most vulnerable people, children, during times of war. Very inspiring story. Very reputable. Most of the money goes directly to the kids for things like food and school supplies.
bckr··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (May 2025)
What’s odor tech CPG?
bckr··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (May 2025)
Very curious, email me?
bckr··on At Amazon, some coders say their jobs have begun to resemble warehouse work
> Devs are cost center, not a profit center. They are "value enablers" not "value adders".

I don’t understand this and I think it would require breaking my brain in order to.

A person pays the company to provide a service.

The developers create and maintain (part of) that service.

bckr··on Claude 4
Pretty cool!
bckr··on Claude 4
Update the old code, but make sure you’re using short (<350 line) files, and improve the type safety and code structure if possible.

You have to guide these models. Vibe coding does not work.

bckr··on Claude 4
It’s possible to get to know the quirks of these models and intuit what will and won’t work, and how to overcome those limitations. It’s also possible to just get to know, like, and trust their voice. I’m certain that brand awareness is also a factor for me in preferring Claude over ChatGPT etc
bckr··on Claude 4
> struggle to scale beyond much more than a single module

Yes. You must guide coding agents at the level of modules and above. In fact, you have to know good coding patterns and make these patterns explicit.

Claude 4 won’t use uv, pytest, pydantic, mypy, classes, small methods, and small files unless you tell it to.

Once you tell it to, it will do a fantastic job generating well-structured, type-checked Python.

bckr··on Claude 4
Try being more specific - about what you’re trying to accomplish - how it should be accomplished - which files are in context

Also try keeping file length below 350 LOC.

bckr··on The cult of doing business
I don’t have a lot of surplus. I hope to, I’m working towards it. I have the privilege, talent, and positioning. But I can’t understand how anyone just below me in the hierarchy making ends meet.
bckr··on The Deathbed Fallacy (2018)
Love this thread.

“Two seemingly contradictory things can both be true”

“Your feelings and fantasies matter, but are not ‘real’”

bckr··on We fell out of love with Next.js and back in love with Ruby on Rails
I keep hearing good things about Rails. What are the downsides, other than learning a new language and framework?
bckr··on Intentionally Making Close Friends (2021)
I am speaking from experience. The first conflict is always a picture of where a new relationship will lead, and each conflict after that determines whether the relationship will deepen or weaken.

I imagine it’s the kind of thing that has been studied!

bckr··on Intentionally Making Close Friends (2021)
It takes time to develop relationships that have

1. Longevity. The longer you’ve been friends the more likely you’ll be friends in the future.

2. Trust. Trust in a relationship is anti-fragile. The more times trust is partially damaged but restored, the stronger it becomes.

3. Meaning. The story “we met while looking for friends to do MDMA with, and now we are attached” is cute when you’re 23. What those people mean to you is that you are lovable and able to form bonds out in the world. Good! But shallow.

TLDR; it may be an effective way to have intense but shallow and short-lived connections

bckr··on Talkin’ about a Revolution
I prefer Clawed
bckr··on The average college student today
I speculate that not a few of them are paying some attention to what brings power and influence in the world, and see that the most powerful man in the world is the opposite of what college would form them into if given the chance.

It’s hard to believe in the system we’ve got going.

bckr··on Why I'm No Longer Talking to Architects About Microservices
A microservice is a type of service which faces internal systems. A service in general may also face the internet.
bckr··on Why I'm No Longer Talking to Architects About Microservices
API can mean a library, an RPC, an HTTP call using query params/XML/Json, a CLI, the list goes on.

In my definition, what matters is there’s something responding to HTTP requests internal to the system.
