bbrks··on Naming Things
Even after visiting your website, I have no idea what Office Garden actually is or does. Maybe I'll find out if I enter my e-mail address into your form...

But then again, maybe not, and my email would end up on yet another list I don't want.

bbrks··on 300ms tap delay removed on Chrome for Android
That, and also if you tap too quickly, it will just trigger the tap to zoom feature. So you have to wait that long anyway regardless of where your hand is placed.

bbrks··on Apple Updates iMac
Sorry, yeah a refresh. I can't stand spending £2000+ on a laptop when the Haswells are just around the corner.
bbrks··on Apple Updates iMac
Here's hoping. I've been waiting for a Retina Macbook Pro for about 8 months now.
bbrks··on I couldn't wait for the new Mac Pro
True, but cheap netbooks have plastic hinges which like to break[1] at the lightest touch, or a generally cheap feeling plastic case.

Nothing beats Apple's aluminium bodies. They are ridiculously solid.

bbrks··on I couldn't wait for the new Mac Pro
I started realising this last year at the ripe old age of 20.

Sure, there's a bigger upfront cost. But you'll quickly save money once you realise you'd end up buying the expensive widget two years down the line anyway out of frustration.

bbrks··on Ubuntu Edge fails to raise goal
Or taking a nice 4%[1] cut if it does succeed.

bbrks··on Don't reinvent the scrollbar
Very true, I do have an Atom feed, not sure how well it works though as it's generated by Jekyll.

bbrks··on Don't reinvent the scrollbar
Thank you! As my first blog post, this is quite encouraging haha
bbrks··on Don't reinvent the scrollbar
Don't worry, there's nothing else there yet.
bbrks··on Don't reinvent the scrollbar
Wasn't meant as a direct dig at anyone, just making my observations :)
bbrks··on Show HN: Xpressive - CSS3 Live Design Tool for Mac OSX
Yeah, I'm not quite sure why they're pushing "live changes" feature so hard. It's been around forever.
bbrks··on iPhone 6: An edgy concept
My railcard is magnetic only, as well as my student discount card and several store cards.

My university ID uses a magnetic strip and RFID. However the university disabled RFID usage on all of the printers, doors, etc. on day zero after people found out you could easily spoof them.

Granted, at least my important cards use chips/NFC now.

bbrks··on Ubuntu Edge
I have a low end Android phone (Galaxy Ace) and it's painfully slow to use. It won't even keep up with me typing in the Messages app, let alone browsing the web or using any apps.

So much so that all I use my phone for (besides the occasional call) is to enable wireless tethering and use my iPod Touch as my primary device instead.

bbrks··on iPhone 6: An edgy concept
Yep, right next to all your cards. Brilliant idea if ever I'd seen one.
bbrks··on Ads in Gmail displayed as normal emails?
Because the ideal use case would be people seeing promotions they want. Not what google thinks they want.
bbrks··on Ads in Gmail displayed as normal emails?
Likewise, I've been thinking about moving away from Google Apps for a while and this may be the push that I needed.

Anybody have any suggestions? Self-hosted or otherwise.

I'm not quite, sure. But here's why GNU grep is fast [1]

bbrks··on Actually eat healthily for £1 per day
Typical notation is Calories (note the capital C) is calories * 1000

1000 calories = 1 Calorie = 1 kcal

Yes, it's weird and inconsistent in the article.

bbrks··on Why is Spotify chugging upload bandwidth when it is not streaming?
Even at a 128KB/s fixed upload, that is still ~2x as much as my upload speed limit on UK ADSL.
bbrks··on Start a timer via the url
Not sure if it's updated since you wrote this, but you can do

Still %20s in long format URLs though

bbrks··on Favicons in the retina age
And because favicons are now being used in many other places, such as Safari’s Reader and IE9’s pinned sites, the best approach is to supply a higher resolution favicon, at least 64x64 pixels.
