bbg2401··on Livenerf: Has Opus 5.5 been nerfed yet?
Brilliantly put. Hedonic adaptation is exactly what it appears to be.

It’s frustrating to observe communities made up of smart, professional individuals as they behave like spoiled children on the day after Christmas when new toy novelty has begun to wane.

I understand it’s relatively harmless but for goodness sake, take a step back and appreciate what you have instead of immediately wanting the thrill of a newer model. Slow down and do deliberate work to get the most out of these amazing tools. Don’t just live off the temporary thrill of finding something marginally better than what you have.

bbg2401··on Tells of a Slop UI
Isn't the popular understanding of AI slop perfectly aligned with what you're saying? I.e., AI slop is the result of lazy and/or careless prompting.
bbg2401··on Tells of a Slop UI
I'm not particularly keen on the font selection observation. Boring is ideal for the vast majority of interfaces. Far worse is the vulgar font selections guided by design skill documents which disallow common font selections.

Something missing from the list of tells is overuse (or even any use at all) of the middle dot (·).

bbg2401··on The Post-AGI Era
> But our underlying belief is one of profound optimism: that greater intelligence can ultimately produce a world of greater abundance, greater knowledge, and greater possibility, while allowing us to build in a way that benefits both intelligent life and the natural world around us.

When will any of those things be realised?

I'm seeing the precise opposite be reported by humans not engaged in growth marketing or techbro evangelism. Fewer job opportunities and career paths the world over, fewer incentives for private investors to invest in anything other than AI infrastructure, reduced access to consumer technology products, etc.

bbg2401··on My Humble Opinion on 'Omarchy' OS
I find it curious how quickly the term oligarch has been diminished. The usage in the linked article is so loose as to be meaningless. I can't blame the author too strongly given the default mode for discourse on the internet over the past decade has been tabloid fervour.
bbg2401··on SAML: A fractal of bad design
I've not got a huge amount to appreciation for PHP but I'm not sure it makes sense in 2026 to refer back to an article which suggests Perl with Catalyst as an alternative to PHP with Symfony or Laravel.

I suppose you are more a fan of the histrionic tone of the criticism than anything? In which case, I'm with you there. It's equal to the most unhinged but technically correct rants of Zed Shaw for me.

bbg2401··on Don't Be Nice
Look, either you loosen your understanding of native to be the region you are born, or you tighten it to mean precisely indigenous.

None of the populations of North America, Australia or the British Isles are indigenous by any neutral definition of the term. Populations have migrated and settled these regions over thousands of years.

You are a native of a nation if you are born within its borders. It is that simple.

bbg2401··on Don't Be Nice
Can you clarify why? I believe native anything is a flawed concept since a human, let alone an entire ethnicity, does not grow from the soil. Populations have moved, migrated and settled throughout our entire history.
bbg2401··on I built the fastest PHP webserver in the world
Your replies are directly from an LLM too.

Amongst other tells, “it’s free and MIT” stated as a noteworthy feature gives strong “how do you do, fellow kids” vibes.

You’ve mentioned the mass of sloppy content you know we’re drowning in. Throwing more slop our way isn’t likely to help things.

Take the ideas from your generated work so far and put your own intellect to work on it. Find someone to bounce ideas off. You might find it fun, and it might provide some human interest worthy of a new HN post in future.

bbg2401··on I built the fastest PHP webserver in the world
There are no breakthroughs. And your attempt to closely associate LLM’s with compilers is tiresome.

Look, you are allowed to feel excited about using coding agents but understand we don’t have to lower the bar with the purpose of entertaining your LLM induced delusions of grandeur.

bbg2401··on What Zig felt like, coming from Rust
I don’t see the point of letting an LLM generate an article when the topic is your personal, subjective experience which only you, a human, would be able to express.
bbg2401··on OpenAI expands ChatGPT ads with Sponsored Agents
> who wants this is literally every mainstream consumer.

Any basis for believing this?

bbg2401··on Leaving Proton Mail
That’s really not how personal endorsement works.
bbg2401··on Linux from Scratch
It's a link to the project page for the main book and it does a good job of explaining itself and the available resources. I guess the biggest issue is it's not immediately obvious the left navigation menu changes between the project and subproject landing pages.
bbg2401··on XCancel service is suspended until further notice
No, it's not. Don't be so intellectually lazy.

The author of the comment higher up is describing a person who is boycotting X because they are strongly against its stewardship and moderation but regardless continues to find ways to indulge themselves in the content produced by users of X, for other users of X.

How else should we describe the position held? It's clearly not entirely principled and veers directly into performative action (i.e. virtue signalling).

I admit I'm not nor have been a Twitter/X user so am able to look at the situation without a sense of entitlement or attachment.

bbg2401··on Docket – Per-commit evidence records for agent-written code
The cool thing about vibe coded projects is they don’t need to ask the question of intended audience. The author has happily delegated the entire process to Claude Code, which will have included affirmative answers to the important questions of scope, audience, feasibility and utility.

I don’t enjoy being so negative but it’s likely you’ve spent more time interrogating the concept than the author would have.

bbg2401··on Eating Fruit Skins
I split my time between Europe and China so I'm aware of the differences in that regard. My question was specifically regarding the comparison between European grapes and boba because I was struggling to identify any shared attributes from the varieties I have experienced. Is there a variety of grape which is more chewy in texture, perhaps?

I'm unclear why such a simple question appeared to offend at least one person.

bbg2401··on Is it time for a Luddite Renaissance?
Your “actual Luddite” characterisation is just as much a meme.

Both are stupid misrepresentations of the movement.

bbg2401··on Eating Fruit Skins
Whose grapes are you likening to boba? I’m struggling with the comparison - even a loose one.

Is there a grape variety I’m entirely ignorant of?

bbg2401··on Shopify acquires Tailwind
The most pertinent part for many:

> On the commercial side, we'll no longer be trying to grow the business around Tailwind. All existing customers will of course maintain their access to products like Tailwind Plus and ui.sh, but we're closing sign ups for new customers to focus on Tailwind CSS at Shopify.

bbg2401··on GamersNexus and LG: Or why rooting your TV is a bad idea
The author of the comment further up this thread seemed to suggest they use their television as a traditional television rather than as a host for several streaming service clients.

I think it’s quite reasonable with this framing to question frequent update cycles.

It’s likely you understand this well and have decided to argue something else for reasons unknown.

bbg2401··on Finder is so frustrating and has been since day one
At least respond to comments yourself.
bbg2401··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
If anything Opus prose packs more noise than signal. It's a string of platitudes, jargon, buzzwords, etc.

bbg2401··on Omarchy: 1Password and 37signals become Distinguished Corporate Patrons
You're going to have to clarify that rather bold statement.
bbg2401··on The British state has lost the argument
Cook has long been aligned with those standing against the Western powers. Often for good, but equally as often to spread Russian disinformation and narratives.
bbg2401··on The British state has lost the argument
Is this the same Jonathan Cook who is ostensibly an agitator spouting Russian talking points?

I suppose we'll be linking to The Duran next.

bbg2401··on Claude Session URL appended to commit messages and PR descriptions by default
It feels like an absolute failure of project management if your tooling needs to attach a session identifier in a git commit message for it to understand what’s going on.

Wikis, changelogs, decision records, issue trackers and more are available to provide greater context for you, your team and the agents you deploy.

bbg2401··on Show HN: The load-bearing vocabulary of Claude
Anthropic has done their utmost to put Claude front and centre for professionals in multiple industries. This includes extremely tedious marketing campaigns. I'm sure they can handle a few negative comments from people they've snared, by hook or by crook.
bbg2401··on Nobody Wants Artisanal Code Anymore
I'm glad frontend design skills have moved us away from the generic, inoffensive font families of yesteryear towards the likes of Space Grotesk and a smattering of IBM Plex Mono in places ill-suited to monospace families.
