baud147258··on Beyond has dropped “meat” from its name and expanded its high-protein drink line
> Have you tried dog meat?

I'd like to try one day. But I don't think I'd easily find a butcher selling it here in Western Europe

baud147258··on Beyond has dropped “meat” from its name and expanded its high-protein drink line
Personally, when I want to eat less meat, I just eat something else, because they are enough vegetarian/vegan alternatives out there that I don't really see the point of a poor imitation that's even more expensive than the real thing.
baud147258··on In space, no one can hear you kernel panic (2020)
> Worse is better?

Maybe if you know what the tradeoffs are and are ready to deal with the deficiencies (by rebooting fast). And didn't they had issues with the lunar module Guidance Computer on the first moon landing?

baud147258··on Use the Mikado Method to do safe changes in a complex codebase
I've checked the stats, the previous app I've worked on has 31% reported coverage and I think the actual value is higher, with coverage of most of the critical paths. But it's been a lot of work and the engineering hierarchy is supportive in adding time to manage the existing tests and test the new features.
baud147258··on Georgian wine culture dates back, uninterrupted, approximately 8k years
At least in France it's quite complicated to find wine from elsewhere unless you go to wine retailers.
baud147258··on The Mongol Khans of Medieval France
yes, but when they moved to England, the Normand duke made himself king of England, so he (and his heirs) had the crown of England and the ducky of Normandy.
baud147258··on The Israeli spyware firm that accidentally just exposed itself
At least that'd improve the chance of having peaceful neighbours, instead of ones who'll listen to any envoy from Iran saying that bombing Israel is the best solution for living in peace.
baud147258··on The Israeli spyware firm that accidentally just exposed itself
> I don't disagree with you, but this is the reality already and I don't see how they can get out of it.

Maybe by starting to behave as if the Palestinian population that live on the territory they control have equal rights? Like stopping West Bank colonization projects?

baud147258··on Big FOSS vendors don't eat their own dogfood– they pay for proprietary groupware
You're welcome :). I though it might interest some people here
baud147258··on Communities are not fungible
Discord's just a platform. When Discord will disappear, I don't think it would happen overnight and the communities would have time to decide where to relocate, hopefully for an open-source self-hosted solutions, but more likely for the next hot thing in instant communication. And it's not as if communities don't move from platform to platform already: like wasn't there a big wave of people moving from Digg to Reddit a while back?
baud147258··on Banning lead in gas worked. The proof is in our hair
For France, I'd argue (just like in the US) that the break in construction of new reactors gutted the industry and institutional knowledge around the construction of reactor
baud147258··on FOSDEM 2026 – Open-Source Conference in Brussels – Day#1 Recap
Because they may be your neighbors, your colleagues? Because they're going to the same third place as you, whatever that might be?
baud147258··on Waymo robotaxi hits a child near an elementary school in Santa Monica
As a cyclist, I'm not a big fan of roundabouts, because I'm always worried I'll get hit on the side by a car entering/leaving the roundabout whenever I don't take the first exit, mostly because I feel like I have less visibility in the direction from which the car might come from, compared to a standard crossing.

Though I've never been in an accident either on a crossing or roundabout, so I can't really judge how true my impression is.

baud147258··on San Francisco Graffiti
Because if graffitiers didn't degrade your property, you wouldn't have to clean after them?
baud147258··on San Francisco Graffiti
because you find it ugly? Because the city/HOA is asking? Because it's a political message you don't agree with (or don't want your house to get burned for it)?
baud147258··on San Francisco Graffiti
> the majority of graffiti is artists just putting up art.

Art? Where I live the overwhelming majority of graffiti is just a few letters forming meaningless words... Like even if it was art, no one could appreciate it because no one could understand it.

baud147258··on San Francisco Graffiti
> It's a way for anyone to express themselves on their environment

no, just a way for a minority to trash public infrastructure because they're assholes

baud147258··on Spanish track was fractured before high-speed train disaster, report finds
> France and Germany are the ones who actually runs high speed trains on old tracks, a lot.

At least in France, high speed trains on older tracks won't go as fast as on the dedicated high speed tracks

baud147258··on Sony wiped over 1k shovelware games off the PlayStation store without warning
I've been hearing the term since Unity made easy (easier?) to create low effort assets flips.
baud147258··on Germany's Merz admits nuclear exit was strategic mistake
well France is still in the EU and has nukes (including some in nuclear submarines), for what it's worth. Though it's not a given that the French would use their nukes to defend the EU.
baud147258··on Total monthly number of StackOverflow questions over time
I spent a lot of time answering rather primitive questions, but since it was on a narrow topic (Logstash, part of the ELK stack), there wasn't many other people eager to post answers. Though it often ended up with the same type of issues, not necessarily duplicates, but similar enough that I got bored with it.
baud147258··on I wish people were more public
> can anyone recommend any decent forum engines

I've spent (way too much) a lot of time on forums built using xenoforo, though I'm not sure of what's the stack underneath and what was built-in and what had been added by the operators.

baud147258··on Mozilla right now (Digital Painting)
why did you link that instead of the original source (https://www.peppercarrot.com/en/viewer/misc__2025-12-18_Shhh...) , since it's already linked in the page?
baud147258··on Internal RFCs saved us months of wasted work
> a short paragraph on expectations.

or worse, multiple bulleted paragraphs fulls of expectations that have little to do with how the software actually work and is used by the actual users.

baud147258··on Powder and stone, or, why medieval rulers loved castles
I don't think castles, especially the moat and bailey types discussed in the article. Even those built of stone required maintenance to last longer than decades, especially if you want something usable and not a ruin (and at the time, any construction that's not in use would likely be dismantled, with the construction materials to be re used).

But I agree that money played a part: castles were the place from where the local lord was controlling his estate, extracting taxes from the local farms and controlling the military force that would prevent other from trying to pillage/forage on his lands.

baud147258··on I got an Nvidia GH200 server for €7.5k on Reddit and converted it to a desktop
ok, I guess. I just never handled that many. I would also have though that the bank might ask questions
baud147258··on I got an Nvidia GH200 server for €7.5k on Reddit and converted it to a desktop
When you said you paid cash, you paid all ~7.5k€ in paper money? How do you get that much cash out of your bank?
baud147258··on Super Mario 64 for the PS1
it works if the console isn't sold at a loss, which isn't always the business model
baud147258··on The C++ standard for the F-35 Fighter Jet [video]
> What’s the problem with the F35 and combat readiness?

For example, the UK would like to use its own air-to-ground missile (the spear missile) with its own F-35 jets, but it's held back by Lockheed Martin's Block 4 software update delays.
