bastloing··on Why America's economy is soaring ahead of its rivals
If anything it's easier now than ever to invest in stocks. Online trades, no commissions, and fractional shares. When I started I had to pay a broker to do the trades. And still against those odds somehow it worked.
bastloing··on Why America's economy is soaring ahead of its rivals
Everyone I know is doing well and looking forward to the next 4 years. Just look at the stock market, which anyone can invest in. I started back when I was making $4 an hour, now doing very well.
bastloing··on AI helps researchers dig through old maps to find lost oil and gas wells
Some articles are more opinion than fact, even though they might be presented as fact
bastloing··on Self-Funding Harberger Taxes
Since it's so easy to invent with AI there's no need for patents or copyrights anymore. The money isn't the idea anymore, it's the product.
bastloing··on Self-Funding Harberger Taxes
As AI takes hold it's obvious parents and copyrights will have to be revisited.
bastloing··on AI helps researchers dig through old maps to find lost oil and gas wells
Yeah they're pro AI and pro business. Sounds about right.
bastloing··on No NAT November: My month without IPv4
My isp filters all incoming ipv6 traffic for me and lets my outgoing ipv6 out. What could possibly go wrong?
bastloing··on FTC takes action against Gravy Analytics, Venntel for selling location data
I wish they would take action on collecting data
bastloing··on Intel announces Arc B-series "Battlemage" discrete graphics with Linux support
I would think someday we can use AI to port the software. Maybe even use AI to design the cards.
bastloing··on Vintage digicams aren't just a fad. They're an artistic statement
Nice! I've got a whole basement full of computer stuff from the late 1970s until a few years ago, probably time to put some of that stuff up on eBay!
bastloing··on Student rocket group shatters amateur space record
Bright kids, great support, can't wait to see what they can do with their careers! Bravo!
bastloing··on Company claims 1k% price hike drove it from VMware to open source rival
There's no claim about it, it actually happened. Always amazed at companies that extort their customers because it might be too expensive to move off those products. I remember Computer Associates back in the 1980s and 1990s, that was their business model, buy out a company, fire all the engineers, and Jack up license fees. Rinse and repeat. I remember seeing them at unix expo at the javits center, they always gave out the best chachkis
bastloing··on World Labs: Generate 3D worlds from a single image
What a great start, it's only going to get better from here!
bastloing··on Handwriting but not typewriting leads to widespread connectivity in brain
Takes more brain cells to handwrite. I'd be interested in brain activity of qwerty vs dvorak keyboards, now there's a study
bastloing··on The Influence of Bell Labs
Once Facebook and tiktok got invented that was pretty much it for big new discoveries. Everybody now just posting crap and eating Cheetos.
bastloing··on Interview of Robert Shingledecker, Tiny Core Linux and DSL Developer (2009)
That's back during the evolution of the operating system, I remember getting CDs of DSL with our console switches. What a great time to be building out our massive server rooms! Lots of fun back then!
bastloing··on How Honeycrisp Apples Went from Marvel to Mediocre
Really enjoy honeycrisp apples with caramel or chocolate coating! Yummy!
bastloing··on Core copyright violation moves ahead in The Intercept's lawsuit against OpenAI
I'd actually leave it up to the owner. Some want their work removed, some don't care.
bastloing··on California scientists accidentally find nuclear fever dream in Arctic snow
Sometimes I read the headlines and then click on the story and the headline here doesn't match the story. Maybe it's Google translate losing the thought? But in this case they match exactly! Nice!
bastloing··on Core copyright violation moves ahead in The Intercept's lawsuit against OpenAI
Who would be forever grateful if openai removed all of The Intercept's content permanently and refused to crawl it in the future?
bastloing··on Core copyright violation moves ahead in The Intercept's lawsuit against OpenAI
Isn't this the same thing Google has been doing for years with their search engine? Only difference is Google keeps the data internal, whereas openai spits it out to you. But it's still scraped and stored in both cases.
bastloing··on GIMP 3.0 is on the way
Gimp seems way to complicated still. I played around with krita, it's way better for what I do.
bastloing··on Finland, Sweden complete repairs on Baltic Sea cables
Let the tracking, tracing, and data grabs begin again! Best thing ever, drop off the internet for a week. Great for mental health!
bastloing··on Send someone you appreciate an official 'Continue and Persist' Letter
We need that here. So many down votes and flagged comments because one person might be offended because they don't understand the other person's perspective. So they choose to silence, shadow ban, or outright ban. Shame on you!
bastloing··on Developing a cancer drug without Big Pharma: this hospital shows it can be done
Even CNBC agrees with healthcare https://www.cnbc.com/2024/11/28/these-economists-say-ai-can-...
bastloing··on Developing a cancer drug without Big Pharma: this hospital shows it can be done
AI will change everything. Especially disrupting pharma, Hollywood, law and lawyers, and medicine. Only question right now is who will win the race and be authoritative?
bastloing··on Generate video sprites using just FFmpeg
Could be a poster frame or chapter frame or chapter marker
bastloing··on Generate video sprites using just FFmpeg
Back in the day a sprite was a smaller 2d bitmap you'd superimpose on the screen. A key frame was a marker like this.
