Yes, it's been true for a long time. See the book "Manufacturing Consent" for example, but there's been lots of research since. There are numerous ways that the western media biases news to build support for the objectives of those in power.
Sure, but the scale of violence committed by the US and allies is very large. Are there theocratic states recently committing similar levels of violence?
Too often in the past, the oppression done by Middle Eastern governments is used to build political support for their destruction by the West.
There are plenty of third-party candidates in most elections. However, most people are convinced that they have to vote for the lesser of two evils. In addition, a third party or independent candidate who starts getting too much public support will be likely be sabotaged long before election day.
For example look up Butch Ware's recent run for governor in California. It's just the tip of the iceberg in how the two party system maintains control.
Maybe it doesn't qualify as a personal act of corruption, but George W. lying us into the the Iraq war followed by capturing people off the street and then torturing them in military prisons, is comparable to what's happening today, in my opinion.
I don't think it's just recent primaries. Our electoral system is heavily influence by the highest bidder and has been this way for a long time. There are always exceptions, like Massie, but the overall trend is that the majority of candidates who are elected at the federal and state level support and are supported by a few big monied interests. This includes the big healthcare industries, the war machine, the pro Israel lobby, etc. It's why we do things like the war in Iran that are vastly unpopular with the general public. And don't do things that are popular like single payer healthcare.
Even now, the mcp server itself doesn't have to implement all of the possible security options. You can use something like agentgateway to act as an auth proxy for your mcp servers.
The candidate would literally not be allowed to show up on the ballot, and it happens regularly. For an example, look what happened to Butch Ware in the California election recently.
> And I realized, this is what people want, in the sense of this is what they will pay for, this is how they vote with their wallet. What I want is not this, but it is what society wants.
I don't think you can really say they want it, because in many instances they are manipulated or have no other choice.
> somewhere along the lines of "my judgement," "my knack," "my embodied nature," or "my quality of decision making."
Do your friends actually believe that AI can't automate these parts of their work? I think my answer would be that I'll just have to learn to do something else.
> I still happen to think that AI/LLMs will never be able to "fully" replace humans
Do you mean replace humans completely or just replace all the tasks humans don't want to do? I would hope that humans will still have a reason to live even if all the work is done by computers, and that the computers wouldn't intentionally wipe us all out.
Maybe it wouldn't change general hygienic practices, but it might have a impact on voting preferences to find out who was funding the research that led to the creation of the virus and the leak.
What do you mean by America's fault? Maybe I'm in a left wing bubble, but I was under the impression that it's generally accepted by left and right that the Vietnam war was not justified and did not accomplish its stated goals.
> I am not convinced. "You can no longer hold office" is a permanent punishment. Why should that not be allowed?
Let's say that some new evidence comes out that exonerates the person. You can indeed reverse the "no longer hold office" punishment. You can't bring someone back from the dead.
Who are you referring to? For clarification it was Rittenhouse who cleaned graffiti, not any of the victims, which seems to support the grandparents argument.
One can also let themselves be misled by the media for political reasons.
If you actually watched the trial and reviewed the publicly available evidence, and still think the jury made the wrong decision, then I agree, you have a right to that opinion.
However, if you only believed he is guilty because your favorite media figures told you this, then I would say you don't actually believe that a person is innocent until proven guilty.
Why would you think this is even relevant? He lived close to the border, and stayed within the same metro area.
> attend a protest with a gun he didn't personally own
This was not illegal.
> If that was self defense, so was this case
So were the judge and jury just corrupt? Did you watch the videos of him being threatened and attacked, including by someone (Grosskreutz), who also had a gun?
It seems like it would be simple to just create a fork and archive the old repo. Add a note to the old repo, update a couple of the most important docs and links, and then worry about the rest later. It can be low hanging fruit for new contributors.
I think what he meant was that you can take a group of people and train them for a sport. Some of those people (genetically elite athletes) will improve very quickly with minimal training, others can do massive amounts of training and never reach beyond a certain level.
I think you are arguing against a strawman. I've never heard someone suggest that the machine operator shouldn't be paid. Same for the other example who would clearly be doing labor.
The parent post is not talking about managers, they receive a salary and are taxed at regular income rates. It's taking about shareholders. Someone who makes money by owning a stock should be taxed more aggressively that someone earning a salary, IMO.
In general I agree with you, but it also makes me wonder how these people got to this point. I think most people would burn the Mona Lisa if it meant surviving through a cold night.
Our society has failed these people in many ways.
