bananaandapple··on Worth it to register a trademark for a software product that is being developed?
You can file for an european trademark directly online on the european trademark website.

It costs about 1300€ (as far as I can remember) for 3 categories, 150€ for each category. It will take you some time however to fill out the forms, and select the proper phrases.

You can always remove clauses from your registration, but never add clauses!

If there is a conflict (and there most certainly is one ;-)), be sure to hire an expert.

You have to use it in the european union for it to be valid.

bananaandapple··on How we got 100,000 visitors without noticing
That's not true.

Your copyright law is similar to the US or Israel based one, not so strict as the main european one, which is based on the napolion code and is very very strict.

To be honest, sometimes I see downvoting as a compliment. It just shows me how stupid other people are.

I use windows 7 on a daily basis and I enjoy it! And I bet it's made with visual studio.
bananaandapple··on Nintendo President: Piracy not behind poor sales
This just proves that you shouldn't allow others to run unsigned code at your console in the beginning.

A basic DRM has to exist, otherwise nobody will buy any games and just copy them.

bananaandapple··on NIC.LY statement regarding the decision to block vb.ly
You simply deserved to loose that domain. The lybian tld has their own set rules, you didn't obey to their TOS, so you loose your domain. If they contacted you or not, is completely irrelevant.

And I guess that they did contact you, but if you would acknowledge it now, it would come out that you were lying big from the start.

bananaandapple··on How to get a job at a kick-ass startup (for programmers)
Not wanting to sound too negative, but sometimes it's better not to have a job at a kcik-ass startup.

The author also commented/wrote in the past that he endured burn out multiple times and is constantly working >10 hours a day.

I thought you were european? The DMCA safe-harbor laws don't apply to you.

Indeed, what google is doing (caching a page and showing it to the user) is copyright infrigment in some countries. (e.g Belgium, ...).

There hasn't been any case against them but theoriticaly someone could sue them. Who will win is a different story.

bananaandapple··on How we got 100,000 visitors without noticing
They could sue you for copyright infringment if they wanted.

And allowing google to index your "stolen" content pages is just outrageous. You don't own that content.

bananaandapple··on I’ll Take 2 MasterCards and a Visa, Please
That's not true. This clearly depends on the country you are in, the payment processor you use, and the type of credit card you got. (eg with chip or no chip).
bananaandapple··on Octobot - A Low-Latency, Highly Parallel Distributed Task Queue Worker
Could you eloborate where you did have problems? We also plan on using a small number of queues having a high rate of readers and clients (e.g. distributed task execution).
bananaandapple··on Your Credit Cards Will Never Be the Same Again: Meet Card 2.0
That's just like a computer without even having the possibility to reinstall. Just imagine catching a trojan horse on the phone, stealing your credit card info. I prefer paying by PIN. The POS Terminal doesn't connect to the internet.
bananaandapple··on Your Credit Cards Will Never Be the Same Again: Meet Card 2.0
Just if the transactions went through with your personal secret pin code. And even then it's certainly a case by case basis.
bananaandapple··on Your Credit Cards Will Never Be the Same Again: Meet Card 2.0
Why not type in the pin code at the POS terminal?

All Credit cards (smartcards) in Europe (Visa, etc..) already have a chip integrated . So whenever you do a purchase in the store, you have to enter your pin into the terminal, to complete the transaction. No pin, no transaction.

I don't think that this credit card 2.0 is solving any problem at all.

Maybe the founder have never been to Europ and don't know that this exists here... imagine. hehe.
