Scrum gives you (the team member) the power to decide what your commitment for the next sprint will be.

If you have a manger, that decides this, or the PO decides this, IMO that’s a key problem of your scrum implementation.

bambambazooka··on Bazel 8.0
I really really like the concepts of Bazel, but it feels like you have to jump through a lot of hoops to use it in a non-monorepo setup :/

I hope to find the time to build a PoC one day…

bambambazooka··on Kubernetes on Hetzner: cutting my infra bill by 75%
> 5) If you want network redundancy you can create a 1G vSwitch (VLAN) on the 1G ports for internal use. Give each server a loopback IP, then use BGP to distribute routes (bird).

Are you willing to share example config for that part?

bambambazooka··on Spilo: High Availability PostgreSQL cluster using Docker
You can put HAProxy in front with a write- and a read-frontend with a backend each and all servers in the backend. To determine which server is a write instance or a standby you can provide a `external-check command` to the backends. That command can be a bash script, that connects to the server and executes `SELECT pg_is_in_recovery();`.
bambambazooka··on Ko: Easy Go Containers
I have a very opinionated library that builds Docker images in pure Rust.

I don't think building something like `ko` with it should be that much work. (I know, famous last words)

I'll have to check with $employer if it's ok to open source it.

bambambazooka··on Rclone is 10 years old today
Can you elaborate a bit? Do you mount something like a S3 bucket inside of a container?
bambambazooka··on Postico: A Modern PostgreSQL Client for the Mac
Thanks a lot!

My biggest issue with using IDEA for DB work is that DB connections are saved to the project or workspace (not sure about the IDEA lingo). We have many projects and so I have to add the DB connections again and again. Is there a nice solution for that?
bambambazooka··on NixOS and the Art of OS Configuration (2018)
Is your config available? It sounds very interesting and complete. Especially the PXE boot from a pi sounds great!
bambambazooka··on Treat Kubernetes clusters as cattle, not pets
Could you please name the papers and the book?
bambambazooka··on Dvorak vs Colemak (2010-2020)
I've been using Colemak on a Ergodox since September of last year and am very happy with it. I too switched to Colemak when I started using my Ergodox. The first weeks my head hurt, but now I'm fine.
bambambazooka··on Ask HN: What are the expectations of a principal engineer in your company?
I like this overview of Mozilla's engineering track: https://twitter.com/Gankra_/status/1046438955439271936/photo...
bambambazooka··on Using GNU Stow to manage your dotfiles (2012)
I really like the idea! Thanks for mentioning it. I thought about converting my dotfiles to org-mode files but managing the tangling is always the step where I stop. I think I'd rather automate the tangling. I see you commit the tangled "results". Is this by choice or is it a compromise?
bambambazooka··on How to Write in Plain English
This is such a beautiful explanation. Comments like this make me come back to HN again and again.
bambambazooka··on Building a WireGuard jail with FreeBSD's standard tools
No, I have a small VPS that functions as my central WireGuard node.
bambambazooka··on Building a WireGuard jail with FreeBSD's standard tools
I absolutely love sshuttle but IMHO nothing beats WireGuard‘s availability and simplicity. I have it setup on my laptops, iPhone and iPad. It works transparently and I can access all the stuff in my homenetwork.

I use sshuttle for situations where I don’t have root on a jumphost or only need the tunneling sometimes.

bambambazooka··on Elfeed with Tiny Tiny RSS
thanks!
bambambazooka··on Elfeed with Tiny Tiny RSS
Sounds interesting! What program do you use?
bambambazooka··on Ask HN: Programs that saved you 100 hours?
I'm very interested, what's the URL of your blog?
bambambazooka··on Rules for Data Modeling with DynamoDB
If you use Oracle, PostgreSQL or MySQL (those are the ones I'm familliar) you can always query the data dictionary and see how your tables relate. For me that is self-describing.
bambambazooka··on TclWise: Guide to the Tcl programming language (2004)
What makes Tcl special and worth to learn?
bambambazooka··on Bup: Efficient file backup system based on the git packfile format
you can help finish it
bambambazooka··on Bup: Efficient file backup system based on the git packfile format
I've been working on that feature for some time. I'll try to finish it for the next release! If you want to test my existing code contact me.
bambambazooka··on Bup: Efficient file backup system based on the git packfile format
I really have to finish that feature...
bambambazooka··on Bup: Efficient file backup system based on the git packfile format
and git-annex has a bup backend :)
bambambazooka··on Show HN: Kurikku – Rap Genius for Code
Little bug report: If you hover over code with a comment and move fast to another block the comment of the first block stays there.
bambambazooka··on Writing a FUSE filesystem in Python
superior to bup or rdiff-backup?
bambambazooka··on Writing a FUSE filesystem in Python
Fun fact: bup has a fuse module to access saved files: https://github.com/bup/bup/blob/master/Documentation/bup-fus...
bambambazooka··on The problem with vim
I knew of eclim, which was to much hassle set up for me. Didn't have to use eclipse too much in the last years, but have to come back to it now. This was perfect timing.
bambambazooka··on The problem with vim
wow, thanks for Vrapper... this is great!
