balazsdavid987··on Ask HN: How to deal with an abusive co-worker?
Always remember yourself that it's not your fault.

Your colleague and your boss is very unprofessional. Don't be like them, don't start playing childish games. Concentrate on your work , start looking for a new job, and leave.

Any attempt to change their behavior is in vain, you can't change someone's personality (or at least it's not your responsibility to do so).

balazsdavid987··on Ask HN: How to deal with an abusive co-worker?
Only if it was that simple. The most effective solution is not always legal.
balazsdavid987··on How old is too old to jump into software development?
34 is totally fine. Read books, not just random blogs, get a GitHub account where you upload your projects, and watch your health (sitting long periods of time is not healthy)
balazsdavid987··on Ask HN: Simple collaborative CSS editing tool?
Have you considered using a version control system with automatic deployments when new code is pushed?

The CSS you see in the browser might not be the same as the CSS that developers write.

balazsdavid987··on Show HN: Pravda for the People: We Rate Billionaires.club
Your project aims to rate billionaires...but based on what aspect of their personality? Musk wants to rate journalists based on their credibility: do they write what is true or do they blend the truth for a better story? A yes-no rating, regardless of what your target group, makes absolutely no sense.
balazsdavid987··on How much did you save by nót buying Bitcoins? ;)
Schadenfreude is the joy of losers.
balazsdavid987··on Learn Anything White Paper
Great initiative, but how it is different from a collection of links for subject X? The mindmap approach is fancy but does it deliver more value than a simple tree-like folder structure (especially on mobile)? Again, I think that's a great idea but I'm not sure about the execution.
balazsdavid987··on Show HN: nooooo.ooo
Why did you use jQuery v1.11.2? How did you decide to go with that version?
balazsdavid987··on Ask HN: What horrible things do you do in your own code when no one is watching?
Debugging by writing variables and intermediate steps to the console.
balazsdavid987··on Show HN: Meric's Test of Consciousness of an AGI
> I think this test is more precise than the Turing test.

This comparison makes no sense since the Turing test is concerned with intelligent behavior and not consciousness.

balazsdavid987··on Bitcoin is fiat money, too
Do you remember the multi-million dollar pizza? Today, nobody wants to be the thousand dollar toilet paper guy. I believe most people buy it as an investment, with no intention to every make an actual purchase with it. What gives it value then? What will happen with the price when there are no new people who wants to buy bitcoin?
balazsdavid987··on Solving pocket Rubik’s cube (2*2*2) using Z3 and SAT solver
I can not see a better way than this comment to prove that one did not read the article.
balazsdavid987··on Ask HN: Everybody lies. How do you deal with it though?
Most people can detect lies easily, they just don't bother with confrontation so maybe you did not get better at lying, simply people started giving less weight to your words. Your relationships got easier because they become weaker and more shallow and that might be one reason why you get super depressed once in a while.
balazsdavid987··on Show HN: Alphabetically Ordered Keyboard for iPhone
I hope this is just a joke I don't get.
balazsdavid987··on AdNauseam – Clicking Ads So You Don't Have To
Something like that ran through my mind before I clicked on the install button. It's the small publishers and individual content creators who suffer from AdNauseam, not the big media companies. It just kills the small players and helps big companies grow bigger.
balazsdavid987··on AdNauseam – Clicking Ads So You Don't Have To
Who should decide which ads to block?
balazsdavid987··on Ask HN: Experienced JavaScript programmers, what are your recommendations?
Recommendations...for what purpose? Please be more specific. Where are you now? What do you want to achieve? Do you want to build something from scratch or just polish your skills? Etc.

For example, I can tell you that Phaser is a very good library for game development (or similiarly, others that X is for Y), but that is pretty much useless if you are completely disinterested in that given area.

balazsdavid987··on Ask HN: Why HN logo not in SVG?
Explain the performance benefits
balazsdavid987··on Show HN: Easier code reviews by collapse/expand diffs in pull requests
What problem does this solve? Isn't the point of code review just to see all changes?
balazsdavid987··on Ask HN: Do you use creatine as a brain supplement?
It's still very popular in bodybuilding/fitness circles.
balazsdavid987··on Ask HN: Where to find co-developers for side projects?
That's a great list, thanks!
balazsdavid987··on Ask HN: Are auto-playing videos now the norm?
I have seen worse than auto-playing videos: auto-stopping videos. I have the habit of starting a video and quickly scrolling through the site while listening. Check that for an example: https://www.gatesnotes.com/About-Bill-Gates/Testing-Mattress... Playback is stopped even when you scroll just one pixel and it does not resume when you return. I find that a very bad ux design.
balazsdavid987··on Ask HN: How long till the worlds Lego bricks biodegrade?
What's the point of your question? Why do you target Lego specifically? I don't think that thrown out Lego bricks has any measurable impact on our environment compared to other sources of plastic waste.
balazsdavid987··on Ask HN: What motivates founders?
Gambling and founding a startup are two vastly different things, they are not on the same scale. While gambling is a zero-sum game and you have little control over the outcome, a startup creates value (or at least, tries to) and you do have the ability to change/improve the product based on feedback from the market. I might be too idealistic, but I believe this is what motivates hackers to found startups: create value + take control of their lives.
balazsdavid987··on Ask HN: Reached 1k+ paying or registered users without spending on ads?
I think that is absolutely doable but efficiency depends on the product/service. Start a blog, write about the problem you solve and post it to HN, reddit, and other sites but do not spam, make sure you provide value. You either spend money on ads or you spend time on creating content. Just creating the product, putting it online, and waiting for users to come simply will not work.
balazsdavid987··on Velodyne Announces a Solid-State Lidar
The goal is to collect as many information about the environment as possible so you the software can make better decisions than human drivers.
balazsdavid987··on A Competitive Programmer's Handbook
This is a well-written book, very nice work!
balazsdavid987··on Trump accuses Obama of wiretapping him before election
A strong belief is enough to make decisions based on emotions. Facts are only needed when it comes to thinking rationally.
balazsdavid987··on Ask HN: Will YC ever fund a time travel startup?
perpetual motion and free energy
balazsdavid987··on What terrible treatment have you seen in the workplace?
I did this and left after the next paycheck. When they realized that an important part is missing, I was threatened in e-mail with being sued for stealing company equipment. I replied with the receipt I got from the retailer and asked them to attach that to the lawsuit as well. Never heard back from them.
