balac··on My wife recently passed away. I used my time off to build her a giant bookshelf
Not for the same quality though. Ikea is convenient, but most items won't last.
balac··on How Much Does a Mile of Road Cost?
Yeah, it works because a lot of motorways in Spain have two lanes, and people like to drive fast, so lane hogging isn't tolerated.
balac··on Panic’s Next Editor
It was, as was Dreamweaver. Their point may be that those were WYSIWYG editors primarily, whereas Coda was a more pure "editor".
balac··on React Router v5
I did the same as you, initially reach router seemed like a great alternative, but it really doesn't feel finished, updates are few and far inbetween, and there is a large backlog of open issues / PRs.
balac··on Show HN: Fnm – Fast and simple Node.js version manager built in ReasonML
I'm using nave, also with no issues. A "why fnm vs nvim / nave" section in the readme would be useful.
balac··on Homebrew 1.9.0
I wonder why Linux users would want to use Homebrew? Are the packages not available via the normal Linux package managers?
balac··on Show HN: Codier – Front-End Coding Challenges and Creations
This is a Show HN from the founder, so whilst is a repost, it isn't exactly the same thing.
balac··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (November 2017)
That works as long as you share rent with 2 other people and have no kids, try supporting a family on that and things change.
balac··on NeoVim 0.2.0 released
vim 8 also now supports asynchronous plugins (not sure how many have been upgraded though).
balac··on Ask HN: Are download accelerators still a thing?
I've also been using DownThemAll for a very long time, it does an excellent job and is one of the main reasons I still have Firefox installed at all.
balac··on Ask HN: Why AWS SNS for mobile push notifications?
Yes, these type of services help get around the headache of supporting multiple platforms / versions of the same platform, and their different notification APIs.
balac··on A static website with React
The arguments seem pretty clearly presented in the article. What part do you disagree with?
balac··on Using tmux properly
Yeah, I use https://github.com/tmux-plugins/tmux-continuum to auto save sessions, and https://github.com/tmux-plugins/tmux-resurrect to restore them when tmux is started.
balac··on Using tmux properly
Sessions are the killer feature for me. I have a session for each project I work on and can have all my tabs, panes, vim, etc set up and switch between them at any time. Sessions can be persisted so that even if I reboot my machine all my project workspace configurations are saved and ready to go.
balac··on Ask HN: Every website wants to send me notifications
> If a user denies the notification request then the site is never allowed to ask again

Sites will start doing what apps have been doing for a while on ios, use a custom dialog to ask for the permission until they agree, only then will they trigger the native, one time only dialog.

balac··on Firebug lives on in Firefox DevTools
There isn't a compelling reason imo, you get a dark console theme, slightly nicer / slimmer browser chrome, and a newer version of FF than the normal stable release, I'm not sure much else is different though.
balac··on Firebug lives on in Firefox DevTools
He is likely referring to: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/developer/?v=a

This is a developer focused edition of FF and shouldn't be unstable.

balac··on Ask HN: What do you keep at/on/in your desk?
what dock do you use?
balac··on Ask HN: Disappointed by the new Macbook, what alternatives do we have?
That is actually pretty neat, I've been wanting a macbook dock for ages and this is almost that...
balac··on Ask HN: GUI Git client for macOS recommendations
GitUp is a good GitX replacement.
balac··on Ask HN: GUI Git client for macOS recommendations
I have the same workflow as you and GitUp works great.
balac··on Netflix Now Only Has 31 Movies from IMDB's Top 250 List
Then got a refund from google.
balac··on Pirates Plunder 4K Hateful Eight, but Did They Crack DCP?
Shouldn't you already have the source videos for you channel?
balac··on jQuery 3.0 Release Candidate
I use :input (https://api.jquery.com/input-selector/) occasionally
balac··on Inside Automattic's Remote Hiring Process
It seems like the asynchronous approach that they take to interviews makes it easier to do more of them.
balac··on Why is Apple search so terrible on all their products?
I wouldn't move to alfred for it's file search capabilities, in side by side tests spotlight is much better. Alfred does have many other uses though.
balac··on Ask HN: What happened to Express.js?
It is how some open source projects work (e.g. Android).
balac··on Httpie: A CLI http client
You don't have to stop using curl because httpie is available. I find httpie very intuitive for my own use, but would share curl commands with other devs as it is ubiquitous.
balac··on Ask HN: Self hosted online IDE
A good vim setup will do what you want...
balac··on Evernote cuts 47 employees and shuts down 3 offices
You can install keep as a native looking desktop app by using the google app launcher, then you can open it like any other app.
