baiac··on Copper thieves are wreaking havoc across America
The amount of copper thieves is finite. The fact that this keeps happening means that, if anything, there isn't enough retribution.
baiac··on Europe's New War on Privacy
Even if they did, what are they going to do about it?
baiac··on Quebec to ban public prayer in sweeping new secularism law
The rules of the site do not allow me to… specificpost?
baiac··on Tesla's Cybertruck is turning 2. It's been a big flop
There is your goal and there is reality. Given what I’ve said they should’ve sold 100 or so. It really looks like shit.
baiac··on Tesla's Cybertruck is turning 2. It's been a big flop
Given the price, the design, the size, and everything in between, this seems a massive success to me.
baiac··on Staff at Irish Meta client firm told 400 jobs at risk
I use a swiping keyboard on my phone. When you swipe n-k-s there’s a g in between and often that happens.
baiac··on Staff at Irish Meta client firm told 400 jobs at risk
> “The unapologetic and robotic style of communication makes it clear that they don’t care that many of us have high rents and mortgages to pay, children to feed and plans that depend on having an income,” the staff member added.

Don’t know what this bloke things a job is… They are your employer, not your parents

baiac··on OpenAI won't make money by 2030 and needs another $207B, HSBC estimates
Ah yes, the official numbers. If only food and rent were going up only by 2.5%

The EU also has rampant inflation even though we have no AI sector to speak of.

It seems to me they have realised they can continue printing money to keep stealing from us forever and nobody seems to care.

baiac··on EU Council Approves New "Chat Control" Mandate Pushing Mass Surveillance
"stabilising unskilled labour" in this context means dumping the salaries of the natives, making it so unskilled sectors no longer provide a living wage.
baiac··on We're losing our voice to LLMs
Doesn’t Bluesky have a set of moderation rules that guarantee that it will turn into bizarro-world Twitter?
baiac··on Steam censors LGBTQ+ content on behalf of the Russian Government
I have read all comments (there are not that many as of now) and I have not seen a single one defending the Russian government.

There are many comments comparing this censorship to the censorship that other countries are famous for having applied for a long time, and therefore it seems to me that those comments are decrying all kinds of censorship. This is only an issue for those who think censorship is good when it is applied to things they don’t like.

baiac··on Running Unsupported iOS on Deprecated Devices
Really the command to strip a “fat header” is called “lipo”…
baiac··on Tesla's European sales tumble nearly 50% in October
Have you even clicked the article?

> T Online has now reported that bots manipulated the survey, with 253,000 votes originating from just two U.S.-based IP addresses

baiac··on The EU made Apple adopt new Wi-Fi standards, and now Android can support AirDrop
What is “left libertarianism” supposed to look like? I find this concept baffling. The end result of libertarianism is nothing like what the left is supposed to support.
baiac··on The EU made Apple adopt new Wi-Fi standards, and now Android can support AirDrop
From reading this comment it doesn’t sound like you’re a libertarian at all.
baiac··on Tesla's European sales tumble nearly 50% in October
I’m European and nobody cares about WW2. References to that period of time do not go beyond punchlines. I have no idea why Tesla sales are cratering but this isn’t it.
baiac··on ICE Offers Up to $280M to Immigrant-Tracking 'Bounty Hunter' Firms
Eisenhower launched Operation Wetback, so you can tell what he actually thought about this.
baiac··on Ask HN: Should account creation/origin country be displayed on HN profiles?
> I prefer HN to be about the content, not its hominem.

Green accounts come to mind :^)

baiac··on X Just Accidentally Exposed a Covert Influence Network Targeting Americans
Why is the word “accidentally” used when this is a feature that was implemented with this particular reason in mind?
baiac··on China's CO2 emissions have now been flat or falling for 18 months
Seems like a majority of voters disagree with your first sentence.
baiac··on RuBee
Regular guns in the hands of the people is the opposite of dystopian.
baiac··on X begins rolling out 'About this account' location feature to users' profiles
I disagree. Knowing where an account is from helps gauge its authenticity.
baiac··on Signal knows who you're talking to (2023)
No system is perfect. It’s about making it time-consuming and financially expensive to the spammer.
baiac··on Signal knows who you're talking to (2023)
To curb abuse.
baiac··on Signal knows who you're talking to (2023)
Signal have chosen to put themselves in an impossible position would be a better assessment of the situation. Their choices have made it impossible to appeal to either part of the aisle.
baiac··on Germany to classify date rape drugs as weapons to ensure justice for survivors
Pretending not to understand a chart will not stop people from voting for the right wing parties. Just a thought, in case you care about that.
baiac··on McDonald's is losing its low-income customers
Can't really say about the UK but the cheapest options here are in order 1) frozen chicken leg quarters and 2) an entire chicken (fresh, not frozen) which you have to break down yourself. Both options are around 3-3.5€/kg
baiac··on The Pentagon Can't Trust GPS Anymore
Nowhere in my comment did I say that the conflict has stopped. But Europe is the most interested party in this conflict and they haven’t come up with any reasonable proposition to end it. It’s good that someone with power is proposing something workable.
baiac··on The Pentagon Can't Trust GPS Anymore
I suppose they have responsibilities as members of NATO. Europe has been completely incapable of stopping the conflict.
