bagels··on Egg prices are soaring. Are backyard chickens the answer?
The biosecurity protocols are nonexistent with most backyard coops.

I don't think they get a lot of calories out of greens, do they? I feed mine all sorts of scraps, but they also eat a lot of grain.

How much land would you need to grow that much grain? Probably a lot more than most backyard chicken flock owners have.

Wild birds will bring bird flu to your backyard flock too.

It takes a lot of eggs to pay for even a $200 coop + bedding and buying the actual birds.

I don't regret it 4 years in, but don't do it for the economics.

bagels··on "Ensuring Accountability for All Agencies" – Executive Order
"He didn't really mean it" isn't really playing out so well.
bagels··on "Ensuring Accountability for All Agencies" – Executive Order
There is no next legitimately elected president. They are going to disenfranchise us.
bagels··on "Ensuring Accountability for All Agencies" – Executive Order
They're trying to leverage the immunity the Supreme Court gave him to extend to people following his orders.
bagels··on "Ensuring Accountability for All Agencies" – Executive Order
Can you imagine if the media were actually reporting on what's happening honestly, especially Fox News?
bagels··on "Ensuring Accountability for All Agencies" – Executive Order
They get something out of it and lack of scruples? Money, influence, seeing their religious views pushed on others, who knows what else.
bagels··on "Ensuring Accountability for All Agencies" – Executive Order
They created the circumstances where this could happen. It's a long term project. Supreme court picks, disenfranchisement, propaganda, refusing to hold Trump accountable for his crimes.

I'd rather have gridlock than Hitler.
bagels··on "Ensuring Accountability for All Agencies" – Executive Order
There is so much evidence that he is actually, intentionally, emulating Hitler though. He quotes Hitler "poisoning the blood of the country", kept Hitler's speeches by his bedside, was reported by his cabinet to have admired Hitler.

Republican Senators want this. It's not about statistics. They believe in this stupid Unitary Executive thing (aka, we should have a King).
bagels··on Tariffs result in 10% laptop price hike in U.S. says Acer CEO
I'm not buying domestic either. The tariffs are effectively on everything, because nearly everything will have tariffed inputs.
bagels··on Tariffs result in 10% laptop price hike in U.S. says Acer CEO
You're telling me that domestic chip fabs didn't just pop out of the ground?
bagels··on Tariffs result in 10% laptop price hike in U.S. says Acer CEO
Markup is not the same as margin. Inputs would have to be free for 100% margin.
bagels··on Tariffs result in 10% laptop price hike in U.S. says Acer CEO
Maybe I'm alone in this, but despite being able to afford to, I'm just not going to be buying as much non-essential stuff to avoid funding these tariffs.
bagels··on My washing machine refreshed my thinking on software estimation
I'm so glad I brought my washer and dryer with me through two moves. Modern ones have logic boards in them that eventually malfunction. These machines are 20 years old, simple to repair, and reliable.

I think it's impossible for everyone to be satisfied no matter what the solution is.
bagels··on Did missing/corrupt dates in COBOL default to 1875-05-20?
You act as though there can only be one database table in existence.

It's telling that Musk did not publish the data on the age of people that are receiving payments.

bagels··on Did missing/corrupt dates in COBOL default to 1875-05-20?
Would you be surprised to learn that there are other data sources and processes in place to make sure that dead people don't get benefits, even if this one database table doesn't have all the information?

Even a cursory search will show this.

bagels··on Did missing/corrupt dates in COBOL default to 1875-05-20?
I'm sure Fox news will investigate his claims and let their listeners know that he lied about this.
bagels··on Did missing/corrupt dates in COBOL default to 1875-05-20?
Confusing insane asylums and refugee asylum by way of talking about Hannibal Lecter points in a completely different direction than what you've stated.
bagels··on Did missing/corrupt dates in COBOL default to 1875-05-20?
Thank, you. All this whining about missing death dates totally misses the point. 150 year olds are not receiving checks!
bagels··on Did missing/corrupt dates in COBOL default to 1875-05-20?
The latter. He's trying to build an "Iraq has WMD" case for cutting SSA, by falsely claiming all the payments are fraudulent.
bagels··on Did missing/corrupt dates in COBOL default to 1875-05-20?
They aren't willing to provide the right lies or spin to justify cutting SSA altogether. That is the end goal.
bagels··on Did missing/corrupt dates in COBOL default to 1875-05-20?
Social security office knows that there are records in that database without confirmed deaths.

They use multiple techniques and data sources to determine who to send benefits to.

This is not news to the SSA.

https://oig.ssa.gov/assets/uploads/a-06-21-51022.pdf

"AGENCY COMMENTS SSA disagreed with our recommendations. Agency officials stated that most of the records discussed in the report involve numberholders who do not currently receive SSA payment"

So, they can do better, but sure, they are sending some relatively small number of checks out to dead people. That doesn't mean Musk needs to lie about the the program as an excuse to cut the whole thing, which is actually what we see playing out.

bagels··on San Francisco homelessness: Park ranger helps one person at a time
Maybe its facetious, but I also do not understand why they have to be accommodated in a top 5 most expensive place in the world to live in.
bagels··on San Francisco homelessness: Park ranger helps one person at a time
Musk is the biggest parasite in the parasite class.

You think the states will get more federal money now?

The trend of stealing money from New York, shutting down the Department of Education, and FEMA would make me think otherwise.
