>> But the thing is there’s no way to know how many will just sit on their ass doing nothing
I absolutely agree but don't see it as an argument against BI. We can just approach it slowly.
That is not true. It could work very well in today's society. And UBI is not designed to have every other guy slacking around, you will still need incentives to work (i.e. paychecks).
Basic Income can, in theory, have wonderful effects without much changing the working world: Taking the pressure off people and a give them a hell lot of freedom and a stronger stance in negotiations.
I love the idea but I am afraid the EU is much too conservative, anxious and in general not an institution serving its people to do something like that.
But what a marvellous world that would be to live in.
Hetzner in Germany for example has 8 TB HDD with 32 GB RAM and a i7-6700 Quad-Core for ~55 USD per month.
edit: US hosters seem to be quite a bit more expensive. Does anyone know why there is such a difference?
Yes, this requires employer flexibility and the move from 40h->15h per week grants much less freedom than stopping work entirely but masses of people suddenly being content with a minimum amount of money does not sound convincing to me at all.
I know this is a question of values, of what is considered "just". But for me it would feel fair if all the 20k reviews of the nearby mall on Google maps would not be Google's property but belong to everyone, since many many people contributed to it out of goodwill.
The Tatoeba project focuses on crowdsourcing translations of sentences but has also around a few thousand spoken ones in a variety of languages. Everything is available for download for free.
I have no information on the model, unfortunately.
Daimler for example is currently using Blockchain to manage a 100 million Euro loan [1]. They will still use their old tech (faxes and lots of beaurocracy) in parallel on this deal since is there is much at stake, obviously. But it is a nice experiment that will certainly inspire others, if successful.

Take Germany for example: In the neighbouring country Switzerland you can easily earn twice as much and the higher living costs only cancel out a part of the difference. >80% of Germans would have the money to move and would be much better off and still only very few do it (<2%).
Same with all the unemployment in Spain, people could move to e.g. Germany in masses but they don't.
People just don't like change and are not the rational players everyone wants them to be.
Also, I have used Post-Its all my life but did not even know until now that this was a company or product name.
Having to agree to dozens of pages of contract every day just to do seemingly ordinary things like using websites or ordering stuff online doesn't sound like a workable system either.
"PHP also includes a functionality in its standard library that none of the other languages here do: deep merging. array_merge_recursive will recursively call merge on string key collisions."
But you have to display the site in some language on the first visit. Or do you want to show three big flags and nothing else? The internet would get annoying very quickly.
So 1) not everyone can be wealthy and 2) for a single person to become more wealthy someone else gets poorer.
