I'll also note that it's totally standard for the theregister.com to have headlines that incorporate puns or colloquial language. In this case the original headlines has "slim staff" which is also awkward but has a different mental image :-)
Also many Western cities have very high numbers of homes that are vacant. Seems like a tax on that behaviour would be hard to argue about?
This dataset is from the US military so please remember that when you think about generalising these results to the rest of the world.
Since everyone is talking about it Ear Protrusion 'might' be strongly correlated to height IF you don't exclude short people from the sample set.
The current economic trickle-up system is starting to cause serious problems. Large sections of populations everywhere are increasingly shut out of the capitalist system because they do not have ANY access to capital.
I know I've just cherry picked two statistics there and please don't compare to other countries because it's very hard to do an apples to apples comparison. But my point is that any article or new sources that concentrates on money as the measure of success for a country might be coming from a (very common) point of view which maybe doesn't look at what's actually important in the world.

"Insiders claim that some years’ borrowings were ramped up in order to avoid having to think the unthinkable and cut the hallowed John Lewis staff bonus, as profits failed to keep up with the pace of store openings."
It only takes a few years of mismanagement for a partner owned company like Waitrose to borrow too much and step on the landmine of unserviceable debt. The company is then has to be sold and metastasises into a normal company. Obviously the most unjust thing in that story is that upper management probably not only get paid too much while causing the situation but likely negotiate a personally beneficial settlement for themselves as the ship burns and sinks.

So you get 500 ml bottle with nutritional info shown for every 100 ml and 250ml because that's the 'serving size'. No-one has ever drunk 250ml (8 ounces) and then left the rest for later.
But the only thing that will save PHP as a commercial language is if companies start paying PHP developers salaries on par with other modern languages. HR departments pay based on 'market rates' and those rates are simply lower for PHP.
My vision of the "Just Write SQL" paradigm would be a "class" or equivalent that would take a SQL command and return the response from the server. Obviously the response has a few different forms but if you're "just writing SQL" then those responses are database responses and not models or collections of models.
(For the record I think simple ORM type functionality is actually quite useful as your use case moves past the scale of small utility scripts.

I haven't read about this thoroughly but I think the theory is that the Tetris Effect that we all hate literally blocks the formation of traumatic memories.
In the "Circuit" section there is the text "30uH" and a few characters to the right of that there is a column with 3 "C" characters arranged vertically. Next to each "C" character is a pipe "|" character.
The standard unit of inductance is the henry (H) so I assume 40uH is the value of that component and therefore I would expect that arrangement of 6 characters to map to an inductor symbol: ( https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Inductor_Symbols.jpg ) rather than staying as separate C characters with a vertical line next to it.
(If this is a bug with my browser then I can only say that I'm using Chrome on MacOS and everything else looks correct)
There are a huge number of people who due to short and long term conditions and disabilities need society to support them to some degree or another. This is the human condition and I think society as a whole hasn't ever grasped that.
Edit: Sorry should have included: "and the brain"
But if the maintainer(?) is reading these comments it looks like the inductor in the circuit section isn't working correctly. I can separate "C" characters rather than the normal circuit symbol
Today my banking app decided to 'forget' my login details. I have the account number available at home but I'm in the office today and so I can't log back into my account. So I can't check balances or approve payments (luckily I'm too busy to spend money)
"Set two hundred years in the future, a science fiction novel in which William Pearce is searching for the elusive absolute zero, and his wife has brought many cryogenically frozen heads in the hope of reading them for information, unaware of the danger of their actions"
Maybe not his best book...
A plumber can exploit a customer by charging an exorbitantly high rate for work. They can choose to exploit their position of power as a supplier of services where a customer has an urgent need.
Exploitation is not charging a high rate for work. It is charging a higher rate when a customer is not in a position to shop around.
