b8··on Tell HN: YC companies scrape GitHub activity, send spam emails to users
Boundaries don't exist really in tech and especially with emails. I just filter out spam and block a good bit. People just ignore stuff now a days even people saying hi passing someone in the street (which I stopped doing)? My colleges spam filter catches a lot of them. Your email is presumably already in data dumps.
b8··on FreeBSD doesn't have Wi-Fi driver for my old MacBook, so AI built one for me
It'd be nice to have drivers for newer Mac's for a better Asahi Linux experience. Good use of AI imo.
b8··on Americans are destroying Flock surveillance cameras
If I was someone on the run, then I would just get a fake license plate. They record plates on the interstates as well. Also, they have cameras and presumably can alert of a certain make and model + color car trailer on AI near a last seen area. Only way to bypass that is by swapping cars or getting a really generic popular car.
b8··on Sub-$200 Lidar could reshuffle auto sensor economics
I still believe in Cameras. I have a comma.ai 3x and it works really well. Just get a thermal camera to deal with fog etc. Waymo has some of the same limitations with cameras that Comma and Tesla does.
b8··on The Age Verification Trap: Verifying age undermines everyone's data protection
Hence why Illinois has already mame it illegal.
b8··on I built Timeframe, our family e-paper dashboard
For a smaller display, have you tried the reMarkable 2? Also, perhaps buying an anti glare oled monitor with high brightness and nits (e.g. LG G4 brightness) would help with the price issue.
b8··on Show HN: CIA World Factbook Archive (1990–2025), searchable and exportable
I have the 2025-2026 one. Email me for it.
b8··on Loops is a federated, open-source TikTok
Problem will be growing the user base. YouTube Shorts will be a big competitor.
b8··on Show HN: CIA World Factbook Archive (1990–2025), searchable and exportable
2025-2026 is available (to purchase/read outside or ur site) and the last version 2026-2027 is planed for release on April 7th, https://www.amazon.com/CIA-World-Factbook-2026-2027-ebook/dp....
b8··on I verified my LinkedIn identity. Here's what I handed over
I wish more states would make this illegal like Illinois does.
b8··on I found a vulnerability. they found a lawyer
Sounds like they were bluffing and trying to coerce the researcher in to signing an NDA. I wouldn't of signed and they wouldn't have reach in the US and presumably Germany where the researched is based. Also, I'm glad the affected vendor isn't DAN.
b8··on I guess I kinda get why people hate AI
Yeah, it's FUD. AI can't even do customer service jobs well and CEOs make hyperbole statements that they will replace 30% of job.
b8··on Ghidra by NSA
Yep, it's cheaper than IDA and I like the UI better. Also I love that it's made by game hacking folks (my clique).
b8··on Running My Own XMPP Server
I grew up using XMPP (I'm 25), but today I use Briar and Signal. I use text and calls for my family, because no one else but me uses Signal so it's unfair for them to use one app to talk to me and no one else.
b8··on An AI agent published a hit piece on me
Getting canceled by AI is quite a feat. Won't be long that others will get blacklisted/canccled by AI and others.
b8··on Don't rent the cloud, own instead
SSD's don't last longer than HDDs. Also they're much more expensive due to AI now. They should move to cutdown on power costs.
b8··on FBI couldn't get into WaPo reporter's iPhone because Lockdown Mode enabled
They can hold you in contempt for 18 months for not giving your password, https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2020/02/man-who-refused-....

b8··on Tell HN: Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas y'all. Glad to spend time with the fam bam and to spend some time resting. Also I'm getting my back nerves burned finally after trying to get a pain remediation surgery for a long time. Better late than never.
b8··on Backing up Spotify
Redacted, their replacement has more records then they had now.
b8··on Amazon will allow ePub and PDF downloads for DRM-free eBooks
I only got unbanned when I got hired at Amazon and emailed the head of the fraud team lol. I had the same issues you had with being stonewalled and ghosted while banned. Anyways, just downloaded them off of Anna's Archive or join private trackers. There's also still methods to de-drm the Kindle books, but many people will do it for u via requests on private trackers.
b8··on Amazon will allow ePub and PDF downloads for DRM-free eBooks
Just reach out to andy or bezos and the executive team will reach out and fix it.
b8··on Sick of smart TVs? Here are your best options
Don't connect to the wifi on the tv and just use a Nvidia Shield Pro or ugoos/Onn.
b8··on Laptops with Stickers
I wish I could buy the Aaron Swartz sticker
b8··on iPhone Pocket
Literally just looks like a cut sock.
b8··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (November 2025)
There isn't an apply link or a way to contact y'all.

b8··on I almost got hacked by a 'job interview'
Did you join the meeting?
b8··on The story of DOGE, as told by federal workers
geohot has/had a weird obsession with Elon for a few years now. He copied what Elon did a lot and is sort of like an Elon Stan. Which led to him agreeing and competing with Elon a lot. However, after geohot interned at Twitter/X I think he moved on from Elon and liking his views etc.
