ayu··on Sony gives more PSN attack details, details "Welcome Back" packages
I disagree. If anyone learns there's a high chance their identity or credit cards will be stolen they would be thoroughly concerned; simply offering people extra PSN time strikes me as immature and even a little silly.
ayu··on Ask HN: Who is Hiring? (May 2011)
San Francisco, CA

Expensify - Engineering Generalists https://www.expensify.com/jobs

H1B very welcome.

We're a small and super close family. Who should you be? Be fluent in at least two of the following: C++, mobile app dev, PHP, JQuery. Be smart, fun, and nice and want to change the world :-)

Bonus points for appreciation of lulz, and of electronic music.

App details are on the website, please give as much time with it as you'd like us to give you. Oh, and, let them know Ayumi sent you from HN.

ayu··on Astia: Knocking Down the Hurdles for Women-Led Startups
I really support what Astia seems to be trying to do, but like everyone has said it looks like they aren't targeting women who are just getting into entrepreneurship. Their website kind reminds me of enterprise software (big, slow); I think my mom and Carol Bartz would buy into this program.

It's unfortunate because I really support trying to help women get into startups. Just like the whole women in science movement it's probably a good thing for humanity to get diversity in ideas. I wonder if applying to YC with a company that tries to help women wouldn't be a bad idea?

ayu··on What if your Web startup attracts users without computers?
Catering to the non-computer crowd; this is a fantastic idea. We spend so much time hooked up to computers and aiming for that younger and business crowds that it's easy to forget there is a large, large demographic who have just as many (maybe more) problems as we need solved and just as much money to pay for it from their kids or retirement funds.

How do you market to these folks? For me the first thing that comes to mind is infomercials but I don't really want to get into them. (Cue mental images of Sham-wow). Older folks like to read print newspapers, too. Can anyone suggest some good ways to tap this market?

ayu··on Combining Caffeine with Sugar May Improve Concentration
Pretty cool.

If you want to replicate this, please remember that they consumed only glucose!! Fructose, which is present in equal amounts in table sugar, sucrose, is definitely not good for you (unless you eat fibre with it, like in fruits). It's processed solely in the liver and in a way analogous to ethanol. You can get fatty liver from too much HFCS.

ayu··on Title Junk
I like how Chrome remembers the sites I've visited the most and autocompletes them in the nav bar. Usually I'll pop open a new tab, type a letter (e.g. "s" for slickdeals") and hit enter. 2 letters takes care of any site I visit on a semi-regular basis.
ayu··on Need a name for your startup? I wrote a domain name generator in Node.JS
This is pretty nice, thank you. Could you share how you look up the domains? Usually I just go to a registrar and type stuff in.
ayu··on Introducing Facebook Deals
The most practical thing I got out of this was that free jeans are coming soon:

"Gap: Giving blue jeans to the first 10,000 customers to claim their deal."

ayu··on Video on Steve Jobs personality
I didn't realise Jobs used to be a hippy with waist-length hair who ate only fruit. I have something to aspire to.
ayu··on A clever way to fight IE6
I checked out http://gs.statcounter.com/ . Select Browser Version, maybe view as bar graph.

Africa and Asia lead in IE6 by almost 25%. I was surprised, but it does make sense -- pirated XP comes with IE6, people can't use Windows Update, so they just stick with it.
