I thought those were already the best choices?
awwaiid··on Ruby on Rails: The Documentary [video]
Just a guess -- probably the ones mentioned such as dropping webpacker, typescript

Maybe people only need to hire you when they have problems, and the ones where things went well don't need your help?
awwaiid··on 37, the median value for the second prime factor of an integer
My spouse often claims that two is the best prime because she knows it annoys me. Or perhaps she is truly insane. Clearly 2 is the WORST prime, amirite?
awwaiid··on "A Young Lady's Illustrated Primer" Simulated by GPT-4
Based on book-mass alone, I suspect Stephenson chomps on editor souls for breakfast.
awwaiid··on Bing ChatGPT image jailbreak

awwaiid··on Bing ChatGPT image jailbreak
I read this right after another thread here on HN about people being scammed out of a lot of money by being tricked into installing software by fake tech support. Human jailbreak.
awwaiid··on Asking 60 LLMs a set of 20 questions
Replying to gpt-4 with "That is incorrect. Try again." over and over got it to flip between correct and incorrect just about every other time.

Now try to convince GPT-4 that there is no God. Good luck!

awwaiid··on Code Llama, a state-of-the-art large language model for coding
I want to see (more) code models trained on git diffs

Two when you include -2, which I certainly think we should in this circumstance.
awwaiid··on Whisper.api: Open-source, self-hosted speech-to-text with fast transcription
Maybe the auth token example is meant to also hit localhost?
awwaiid··on uBlock Origin Lite now available on Firefox
I use out-of-the-box defaults for uBO -- would I notice any difference with uBO Lite?
awwaiid··on Learning async Rust with entirely too many web servers
What a great walk-through, good for both Rust and unixyness!
awwaiid··on What Is Happening with ChatGPT?
Or butter
awwaiid··on What Is Happening with ChatGPT?
Do you have a custom instruction by chance? Maybe one that makes it go crazy after saying some certain word?
awwaiid··on Chunking 2M files a day for code search using syntax trees
Also git diffs and execution traces.
awwaiid··on 200k Compromised OpenAI Credentials Available for Purchase on the Dark Web
So far my $2 in GPT-3.5 hasn't been billed :(
awwaiid··on Shopify employee breaks NDA to reveal firm replacing laid off workers with AI
You can do this right now! It's called "Alaska".
awwaiid··on The Pacific Northwest Tree Octopus
Best response / revenge is to actually grow scallions in your bathroom.

Or at least pretend to.

awwaiid··on Effect of perceptual load on performance within IDE in people with ADHD symptoms
I couldn't even make it all the way to the end of the title
awwaiid··on Blocking Threads won't be enough to protect privacy once they join the Fediverse
One idea is to create a privacy-oriented server (client?) that lies; expresses things like upvotes but does so with generated identities.
awwaiid··on Blocking Threads won't be enough to protect privacy once they join the Fediverse
I've seen email being centralized mentioned a few times but I don't think it's true. I email with plenty of people who don't use gsuite... seems to work fine. I can see a power distribution, sure, but that's still a distribution not a central organized cabal that stops newcomers.

Still I agree -- decentralized paradigms that are successful seem like they'd end up with big players like you describe eventually. Still better than actually centralized like slack or something.

awwaiid··on ICFP Contest 2023
The 2023 ICFP Contest is about to begin!

The annual contest is marathon-style, a 72 hour challenge to demonstrate that your preferred language / tech-stack is ... THE MOST AWESOME. Good luck!

Also see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ICFP_Programming_Contest for historical information. The contest started in 1998!

awwaiid··on France legalizes remote camera and microphone activation in smartphones
I guess one idea is that you could turn on video/audio/location broadcast and live stream it to some website all the time, 24x7. Now you are in the proper mindset of how to treat your device.
awwaiid··on Easy Effects: Audio effects for PipeWire applications
Yes, trivially. Or other things. I even route the output of Spotify into Google meet as my microphone for meeting I tro/hold music, though watch out for noise canceling algos :)

awwaiid··on Using ChatGPT for home automation
Maybe you need to let your LLM manage Alexa
awwaiid··on Using ChatGPT for home automation
Yeah but I think the idea is that it is a knob that calls to be turned. "It's warm in here" -> "I'll make the light blue so you feel nice and cool". "How fast do sparrows fly?" -> "Making the light brown". Like it might want to do _something_ and tweaking the hue or brightness are all it can do.

Good reason to always try to include in a prompt a way-out, a do-nothing or I-don't-understand answer.

awwaiid··on ChatGPT vs. open source on harder tasks
JS > asm.js > wasm all over again
awwaiid··on Military shoots down another high-altitude object, over Lake Huron: officials
Looked it up. In 2020 we spent $2bn on the UN. We brought in $3421bn, so (ignoring that we overspent by 2x) that is like 0.06%. if you make $100k you pay like $18k in federal tax. So that comes out to $10.50 or so.
awwaiid··on Microsoft announces new Bing and Edge browser powered by upgraded ChatGPT AI
I've always thought that until it is actually released, and especially if there is slightly misleading information that it is there but YOU can't try it (but really nobody can but that is downplayed), than it is indistinguishable from long-term vaporware. Both Google's and Bing's announcements currently fall into this.
