awestroke··on Fly.io has GPUs now
I have run several services on Fly for almost a year now, have not had any issues.
awestroke··on Developers revolt over Apple's new app store rules
That’s my point
awestroke··on Developers revolt over Apple's new app store rules
Yeah it was too much work to support PWAs in the EU for this beta. But they managed to have time to implement it for the rest of the world
awestroke··on Claim: the ideal PR is 50 lines long
Forget about refactoring then
awestroke··on The people hosting their own 'living funerals'
> What kind of a maniacal ego maniac asks everyone close to them to all gather together and talk about how wonderful they are so they can watch?

This, as currently worded, is a criticism of birthday parties as well

awestroke··on Men hand over Bitcoins worth two billion euros to German federal police
Giving somebody your wallet does not create a transfer on the chain
awestroke··on Men hand over Bitcoins worth two billion euros to German federal police
They will probably auction it away
awestroke··on PinePhone review after a month of daily driving
Until you have to call 911 or equivalent and it doesn’t work
awestroke··on GPT-3.5 crashes when it thinks about useRalativeImagePath too much
> high quality

That's a hot take

awestroke··on GPT-3.5 crashes when it thinks about useRalativeImagePath too much
Using /r/counting to train an LLM is hilarious.
awestroke··on A periodic table of visualization methods (2007)
Why is the "noble" (rightmost) column filled with garbage visualization methods? Seems like very very little thought went into the "period table" aspect of this
awestroke··on Explore GPTs
Very underwhelming. They just added user created GPTs to the existing Browse page. What about it makes it a store?
awestroke··on AWS cancels serverless Postgres service that scales to zero
Best solution for small scales, doesn’t work anymore when you need reliability (unless you want to be always on call to restore from backup and are willing to accept data loss)
awestroke··on News could end up as Art important to few elites marginal to the rest
Who decides what passes as these cold hard events? How would anybody ever transmit unbiased truth?
awestroke··on Cross-platform Rust rewrite of the GNU coreutils
GNU coreutils will never modernize.

Nobody is switching language and license of GNU coreutils. This is a greenfield project.

awestroke··on Maestro: A Linux-compatible kernel in Rust
That's pure FUD.
awestroke··on How I destroyed the company's DB (a stupid SQL mistake)
Good idea, let’s enforce WHERE on UPDATE as well
awestroke··on How I destroyed the company's DB (a stupid SQL mistake)
Why not an error? How often do you truncate a table? Often enough that you can’t afford to type ` where true `?
awestroke··on How I destroyed the company's DB (a stupid SQL mistake)
SQL really sucks. DELETE without WHERE should be a syntax error. Use `where id=id` if you really want everything gone.
awestroke··on Ruby 3.3
I don’t think I will.
awestroke··on Progress toward a GCC-based Rust compiler
Hah
awestroke··on 'It's all gone': CAR-T therapy forces autoimmune diseases into remission
> CAR-T therapy can have severe side effects, and recipients must first undergo intensive chemotherapy that kills off many of their existing immune cells.

Damn, that really seems like a last resort.

awestroke··on Interviewing my mother, a mainframe COBOL programmer (2016)
The IBM stuff is pure legacy. Of course this would all perform much better with modern tools, like Postgres.
awestroke··on Sorry, but a new prompt for GPT-4 is not a paper
You can select a static snapshot that presumably does not change, if you use the API
awestroke··on Combine GPTs with private knowledge for actually useful AIs
This is a product that uses the OpenAI API's. You configure it with your OpenAI API key.
awestroke··on Does GPT-4 Pass the Turing Test?
Definition of “moving the goal posts”
awestroke··on AI Art Generators Can Be Fooled into Making NSFW Images
You may need to work on your reading comprehension
awestroke··on Tesla turns on 10k-node Nvidia H100 Cluster
You’re also wrong
awestroke··on Typst – Compose Papers Faster
Yeah, the LaTeX ship has sailed, I'll never touch it again. I'm very happy that I can use Typst instead.
awestroke··on Three senior researchers have resigned from OpenAI
And how would Altman achieve that? What hitherto hidden talents would he employ?
