awestroke··on What If? Driven Development
Wow, I hope I never have to work with you or anybody who shares your opinions on this topic
awestroke··on What If? Driven Development
Very strange design. It completely ignores the potential ergonomics of functions over Option<T> like map, unwrap_or, flatten etc that you'd have to implement yourself for every option-imitating enum.
awestroke··on TikTok Owner Had 'Backdoor' for CCP Access to US Data, Lawsuit Alleges
In what way is this article "political garbage"? Did you even read it?
awestroke··on Rome v12.1: a linter formatter for TypeScript, JSX and JSON
How is it petty? It just formats code, instantly, without complaint. That's almost the opposite of petty
awestroke··on Rome v12.1: a linter formatter for TypeScript, JSX and JSON
Most projects use the same set of the most popular plugins. Shouldn't be a problem to get those plugins ported.
awestroke··on Rome v12.1: a linter formatter for TypeScript, JSX and JSON
Who's abandoning their project? Did all eslint and prettier maintainers abandon those projects to work on Rome?

awestroke··on Ligatures in programming fonts: hell no (2019)
I like them. You just have to get used to them, and before you know it you don't even notice it's a ligature instead of multiple characters
awestroke··on Linda Yaccarino is the new CEO of Twitter
AFAIK they are not doing too bad financially any more. They've cut a lot of costs and almost all advertisers are back
awestroke··on Supertokens: Open-Source Alternative to Auth0 / Firebase Auth / AWS Cognito
The fact that it's written in java made me lose interest. I just can't afford hiring a jvm specialist to tune jvm deployments
awestroke··on Go with PHP
> It’s cool to see PHP getting its second heyday once again. It’s currently a perfect storm of two communities starting to notice PHP.

Really? I see no evidence that this is happening

awestroke··on The AT protocol is the most obtuse crock of shit
The notion that server disappearance is a non-issue is quite misleading. Servers go offline for various reasons, such as technical difficulties, financial constraints, or legal issues. Recovering and transferring data without relying on the original server is essential for users to maintain control over their data and identities. DIDs and recovery keys provide a valuable solution to this problem, ensuring user autonomy.

Your reply fails to address that push-based systems are prone to overwhelming home servers due to burst loads when content becomes viral. By implementing pull-based federation, the AT Protocol allows for a more balanced and efficient distribution of resources, making self-hosting more affordable and sustainable in the long run.

awestroke··on De-dollarization is happening at a ‘stunning’ pace
Your reply contributes nothing at all
awestroke··on De-dollarization is happening at a ‘stunning’ pace
If quadrupling a country's money does not cause runaway inflation, then there is something deeply wrong going on
awestroke··on De-dollarization is happening at a ‘stunning’ pace
How is USD better than Zimbabwean dollars after the US federal reserve has quadrupled the amount of dollars in less than a year and then claimed only single digit inflation?

EDIT: I love how nobody replying is addressing my actual point

awestroke··on Is infinity an odd or even number? (2011)

It's good for the driver to confirm they have the right riders. And for riders to know that the driver is not just pretending to be an Uber driver in order to drive away and rob the rider.

In your city, maybe. Absolutely not globally

awestroke··on sudo and su Being Rewritten in Rust for Memory Safety
Because they are not as good of a fit. Rust strikes an extremely good balance between memory safety and productivity. Also almost nobody knows Ada, and even fewer the flavor you mentioned

awestroke··on Europe’s Longest Bicycling Tunnel Opens in Norway

awestroke··on We're afraid language models aren't modeling ambiguity
> Humans can be consistent if we try.

That's a bold statement. Do you have evidence for this?

awestroke··on Europe’s Longest Bicycling Tunnel Opens in Norway
I'd be very very surprised if this became reality. There's no political force to make actual improvements in London, or in the UK as a whole.
