avrionov··on Carbon Language: An experimental successor to C++
I had the same question as you so I checked. C++ 11 standard was released in 2011 of course. Rust development started in 2006 and Mozilla announced it officially in 2010.

avrionov··on TikTok confirms it is using Oracle infrastructure in the US
One thing that is not discussed here is that Oracle offers much cheaper bandwidth compared to all other big cloud providers. Bandwidth is one area of the cloud offerings where the prices hasn't changed much. Oracle was able to attract Zoom also for potion of their backed. Getting more competition here will enable smaller players to create apps which rely more on video.

Disclaimer: I haven't use Oracle cloud, just researched it.

You seems to know a lot about the exchanges. D you think coinmarketcap numbers are real [1]?

The parent comment was about FTX and Binance compared to the other crypto exchanges not to the exchanges in general.

FTX claims to be way more efficient than Coinbase - having only 25 engineers compared to thousands for coinbase. This could be secret of the surviving exchanges - efficiency.

avrionov··on Zoom.us is down
Unfortunately WebRTC provides only part of the features needed to build Web Conferencing app. The main issue is that p2p connections don't work for more 5 attendees in the same session. After that is better to have MCU or SFU.

Other features like recording a much more reliable if they are implemented server side.

avrionov··on Bitcoin slumps below key $20k threshold
We still don't know how big is the problem. Here is what happened this week:

avrionov··on The End of the Millennial Lifestyle Subsidy
I'm not sure if this is the right conclusion. All companies on the list went on a hiring sprees with the VC money. It is still not clear if they are not profitable because of the business model or the because of the hiring practices and the extra projects which they tried (Uber's self driving cars is one example).

The first thing which Visual Studio Code did right was the better performance. The initial reaction to Atom was that it was very promising, but very slow.

avrionov··on iPadOS 16
MKBD asked Craig Federighi in 2020 [1].

Federighi said it would be very easy for Apple to just scale the iPhone Weather app to the iPad, but that's not something the company wants to do, instead looking to create an app that makes use of the larger screen of the iPad in every possible way
