austintaylor··on Ooops.
my windows-using coworkers.
austintaylor··on Ask HN: Would you pay for iOS components?
Would it be open-source? With an open development process? I could see paying for a library, but I can't see building on top of something maintained by a single developer that I can't fix myself.
austintaylor··on Can a complete novice become a golf pro with 10,000 hours of practice?
What was the name of the music theory book? Seriously interested.
austintaylor··on How To Lose 1% Of Your Customers With Just 1 Email
I unsubscribed when I received the email in question. Some problems with this particular email:

1. Stalking people does not resonate with me. Bad lead.

2. What are you selling? Tell me what before why. Seriously.

3. The attempts at humor were really bad.

But the reason I was ready to unsubscribe is that I'd been noticing for a while that the AppSumo deals were more like extended free trials than actual cheap stuff. The spammy email pushed me over the edge.

I still follow the RSS, and sometimes click through to see the email-signup-wall.

By the way, I did buy one of the AppSumo deals early on.

austintaylor··on Apple's Role in Japan during the Tohoku Earthquake
The part about camping out in the Apple Store reminded me of "When Sysadmins Ruled the Earth" by Cory Doctorow.

austintaylor··on Full Text RSS Feed: Get the whole feed and nothing but the feed
Works great! Nice to have: concatenation of multi-page articles.
austintaylor··on Apple is actually asking for 100% of SaaS mobile revenue
The press release begins by referring to "publishers of content-based apps", and uses "publishers" throughout. I think it is pretty clear that they are not talking about SaaS.

The article also fails to understand that it is not taking cut of revenue from existing subscribers: only those that sign up through an iOS application.

austintaylor··on The most common phone number: 214-748-3647
If you page through the Google results, there's actually less than 400 pages listed.

austintaylor··on Redesigning OSX Spaces: 45˚ Is All It Takes
I don't understand why switching spaces frequently is the interaction to optimize. If you are switching frequently, you are using it wrong. I've seen people running just two apps, and using Spaces to switch between them, and it's painful to watch.

I stopped using Spaces after a while. I find Cmd+Tab to be quite good enough.

austintaylor··on JavaScript Interview Question
I think they all alert '3' because of the missing 'var' keyword.
austintaylor··on Vim plugin makes Ruby blocks into text objects
An indentation-based text object solves the same problem in a language-agnostic way. There are several implementations out there. I maintain one that includes proper handling of languages without ending block delimiters (python, haml, sass): http://github.com/austintaylor/vim-indentobject
austintaylor··on Mixpanel (YC S09) - Merry Christmas, Internet
Nice. I was just about to complain. :)
austintaylor··on I always forget the argument order of the `ln -s` command
The arguments are in order they appear. i.e. alias_method :alias, :method

But yeah, it's weird that it's opposite of ln.

austintaylor··on I always forget the argument order of the `ln -s` command
Someone told me 'fact before fiction' a long time ago, and I've never forgotten it.
austintaylor··on Review My App:"PG to Alonzo Church?", an iPhone game for the knowledge hungry
Used MATKAYT6RYJJ. Looks like a great game. Thanks!

austintaylor··on What's the Fastest Way to Code a Loop in Javascript?
It makes sense that a zero comparison is faster, but 0ms does seem strange. It's 31ms for a basic for loop on the same platform, whereas in Safari the times are 2ms and 5ms respectively, which seems a lot more reasonable.

Is it possible that IE 7 is deleting the whole loop as a no-op?
