So sick seeing how UK judges listen to US.

auslander··on Firefox’s Fight for the Future of the Web
> Macs remain a fairly open system, although the increasing focus on the Mac app store, which Firefox isn’t on, bodes ill for the browser’s future.

Why not put FF in App Store? I'd even pay for clean, no "integrations", version.

Linux / OpenBSD with open source wifi drivers, if that is even a thing. Snatch some Atheros or Realtek chips before they disappear.

auslander··on Rethinking Encryption
> The problem is that there is no law that clearly empowers governmental actors to obtain court orders to compel third parties (such as equipment manufacturers and service providers) to configure their systems to allow the government to obtain the plain text

That kinda sums the article, but US Gov always finds ways to compel anyone to anything. Raw power. Takeaway is to be your own equipment manufacturer and service provider, as in cheap mini x86 boxes running open source daemons, over proxychains and VPNs. Rotate equipment, hacked wifi APs and identities monthly, use Signal on iOS and hide in the crowd, because if you're on the watch list, game is over. Cyberpunk at its best.

auslander··on Mac OS Catalina: more trouble than it’s worth
> I have too many 32bit games that will never be updated to 64bit. For the first time in 18 years, I am not going to upgrade to the latest mac os

Same here. Counter Strike Source. Shame, Valve!

auslander··on Big ISPs aren’t happy about Google’s plans for encrypted DNS
> Perhaps because downloading Tor (or even searching for it / visiting its website) demonstrates an active interest in thwarting surveillance.

Not if you access tor over VPN. VPN hides all traffic from ISP and Gov. Obviously, make sure your browser does not use Google or Cloudflare DNS.

Hello Google

auslander··on Roundoff Error and the Patriot Missile (1992)
Yeah, but bullets a dumb and cheap. The multi $M rocket with radar, guidance should have at least 90% hit rate against SCUD like big target. Agree, not an easy task for Mach 5 SCUD.
auslander··on Roundoff Error and the Patriot Missile (1992)
I read further down, and it got more interesting. Success rate is claimed from 95% by ones to below 10% by others. "standard firing doctrine on average four Patriots were launched at each incoming Scud .. suggests low confidence in individual missiles".
