I still insist that a production grade compiler can’t leave performance on table. Which is where the current battlefield is.
Repeating others, today’s compilers are really just “optimizing compilers”, there is no room for toying in production environments.
Think a teacher/nurse, would you find it ok for them to answer “for the money”.
Another angle to it; you can be professional and explain your goals but also you can’t be desperate, no one likes that, even if you are desperate you need to act professional about that.
A few months ago I wanted to make a small lab out of a few SBCs. Looking for a cheap 10/100 switch, I was surprised to see prices are this low; got a tplink 8 port / LS1008 for 10$ from Amazon.

When I work on a problem that’s new to me, I ask around, explaining the problem, checking if someone recognizes the domain, if it is known.
When someone explains to me what I’m working on is a solved problem, I take great joy from it since I already understand the issue some, I can criticize or take great energy from learning something for sure.
I believe how to feel about it is a choice btw. As movie says “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life”.
I don’t like current forking for sure, just that I’m not against inheritance…
