asynchronous··on Electric cars could last much longer than you think
This confirms you are just spouting numbers, half the Tesla lineup MSRPs under $40k and I’ve seen battery replacement bills regularly in the $6k range. Continue being mad and misinformed.
asynchronous··on Electric cars could last much longer than you think
A million different pieces of engineering, primarily, that the battery is designed to be much easier to replace than disassembling the entire car like the Fiat is.
asynchronous··on Electric Cars Could Last Much Longer Than You Think
> Fiat 500e Maybe buy a Tesla next time?
asynchronous··on A 10-Year Battery for AirTag
I have several of their fabric mounts, one for a backpack and another for a dog collar, they’re more expensive than the cheap knockoffs but the quality is top notch and they’re worth every penny.
asynchronous··on Schrödinger's IPv6 Cat
Here’s the real reason we won’t move to IPv6: NAT is used as a security feature in IPv4. World isn’t willing to do the work to make that transition.
asynchronous··on Assisted dying now accounts for one in 20 Canada deaths
Wondering this myself, insurance in the states already tries to weasel out of every single charge if possible.
asynchronous··on Cold Email Handbook
See I like this, but because it’s personalized. A human did this intentionally, in a way that does not scale.

The author is advocating for nearly the opposite.

asynchronous··on GM exits robotaxi market, will bring Cruise operations in house
I cease to understand how the average HN commentator doesn’t see Tesla as the leader in this space, and my only guess is all the FUD media around them. If you have a Tesla, you know that it’s far and above the best driver-assist software in the entire market, and next place isn’t even close. Sure FSD isn’t Waymo, but it’s entirely different tech and it can drive infinitely more places than the two cities Waymo supports.
asynchronous··on Rivian is opening its charging network to other EVs
They do (mis)use the Tesla ones. I don’t expect this announcement means literally anything to any EV brand.
asynchronous··on Rivian is opening its charging network to other EVs
They must not have one, because they’re ALWAYS taking up two stalls at the Tesla supercharger ones.
asynchronous··on Sitters and Standers
What caught me out was the random argument that undocumented (see: illegal) immigrants should receive social security benefits. By the very definition of how documentation works this would be impossible, so I’m assuming the author is advocating for extending citizenship en-masse.
asynchronous··on Police bust pirate streaming service making €250M per month
Reading this spooks me in a weird way.
asynchronous··on Breaking the 4Chan CAPTCHA
[meta] what blog site is this? Is it a joint among authors? I can’t find more information on their GitHub. Looks neat.
asynchronous··on Starlink Direct to Cell
I don’t remember the Ukraine being the same nation as the United States but maybe I missed some movement on Twitter.
asynchronous··on Half-Life 2: 20th Anniversary Update
No rumor needed, they’re a 500 employee company with billions in estimated profits.
asynchronous··on Porygon Was Innocent: An epileptic perspective on the infamous Pokémon episode
Uh no, that’s revisionism to define ableism that way, we’re not going to let you rewrite the language. Ableism is specifically “the discrimination and prejudice _against_ people with disabilities”. Not “not caring about the disabilities of others”.
asynchronous··on Porygon Was Innocent: An epileptic perspective on the infamous Pokémon episode
I also think they’re somewhat manipulating statistics to their benefit- they start by saying “1 in 100 people have epilepsy” but it’s an untrue statement that 1% of people have the type of epilepsy that would react to this specific example of flashing lights between 5-25 a second.
asynchronous··on Porygon Was Innocent: An epileptic perspective on the infamous Pokémon episode
I’m glad they bring up the techniques of ghosting and others to pass the Harding test, and the outcry from western audiences about it. Because personally, I find the diminishing of the animation quality really distracting during those hype scenes.

I wish we could find some solution where we distribute the epileptic-safe versions alongside the unsafe ones and users could choose.

asynchronous··on Building My Resume in HTML Using Eleventy
It does allow JSON import/export format, and it used to even allow more granular customization of css before it got a rewrite. Here’s the source code: https://github.com/AmruthPillai/Reactive-Resume
asynchronous··on Show HN: Tinder, but to Decide What to Eat
Agreed wholeheartedly- must be a SV trained individual.
asynchronous··on Building My Resume in HTML Using Eleventy
Going to plug Reactive Resume here, because it basically does this in an open source, self hostable, easy to use interface.

asynchronous··on What is the point of an online conference?
If your job is to present on stage to a crowd 5 days a week, 9-5, sure. If not, don’t draw bad comparisons.
asynchronous··on Universe would die before monkey with keyboard writes Shakespeare, study finds
Frustrating that we’ve seem to built thousands of assumptions on an unproven base.
asynchronous··on All political ads running on Google in the US
The issue is then the theoretical contract of the two of you together takes no real repercussion for breaking the law, whereas separately if you committed crimes independently then you could be put in jail. We don’t have capital punishment for corporations, and we should.
asynchronous··on Company named "><SCRIPT SRC=HTTPS://MJT.XSS.HT> LTD" forced to change it (2020)
This seems pretty cheap and straightforward compared to starting an LLC/LTD in America depending on the state.
asynchronous··on Adobe starts roll-out of AI video tools, challenging OpenAI and Meta
Yeah I think this is being understated- reducing the workload or friction from editing existing footage could really help lower the barrier to making quality amateur stuff.
asynchronous··on 1 bug, $50k in bounties, a Zendesk backdoor
To correct you, the revealing of a past bug happens almost all the time when a company does fix the bug- that’s what lets researchers publish their findings and show the work they do publicly, and usually gives the company some positive PR for showing their willingness and responsiveness to fix issues. See the CVE program.
asynchronous··on Is population density the reason Americans can't discuss politics?
There’s literally no way the nation of India is more diverse than the United States- we have the biggest spread of racial, and religious diversity on the planet, by far.
asynchronous··on The Internet Archive takes over foreign dissertations from Leiden University
I mean that gives nothing away, if someone compromised Ubuntu the OS they have a lot more targets than IA here.
asynchronous··on One Genius' Lonely Crusade to Teach a Computer Common Sense (2016)
This isn’t Reddit, evaluate the statement without needing to link to some mainstream media outlet.
