Which can be argued as quite the service to humanity.

As close to the original as possible not using the same phrasing? Obviously?

What about spotify? Their model should be strong if the others don't count streams.
astro19238_··on YouTube blocks Russell Brand from making money through its platform
Good Point. There is ofc tons of criminal youtubers making money.

YouTube don't care as long as it's not publicly known. Hence the community part I suppose?

It's no moral high ground but it's not illogical from that perspective.

astro19238_··on Blowing holes in Seymour Hersh’s pipe dream
Yes. I agree. I'm just not sure some faulty details makes all of it untrue.

However it's hard to be sure because it works both ways. I.e. veryfieng some details don't make the whole thing true.

I havent made up my mind, and I don't think I will.

But it would surprise me if Biden did it if only for the millions of people half starving because of it.

astro19238_··on Bug identified after Alaska Airlines planes bump runway while taking off
When you claim he is affected by dunning kreuger you are by definition attacking the person instead of the argument. Hence "ad hominem"

Then when stating the authority of pilots and their unions you are not attacking the argument with a counter argument. Instead you claim you are right because of the authoroty of the union. Hence argument from authority.

Fallacious arguments. Clearly.

Ad hominem, argument from authority.
astro19238_··on Blowing holes in Seymour Hersh’s pipe dream
Even if the Hersh thesis is completely made up, he still makes more sense than what this guy does.

For one thing. The most plausible reason he can't find the plane dropping the buoy he privides himself.

-It's a small device. -Better to use a boat. -Better to use a non military boat.

Yeah? Maybe that is what they did?

It's not impossible the source filled in a few gaps in his story? Or was mistaken? Or Hersh himself might have?

I don't want to go full conspiracy mode myself here but one thing is for sure. And that is that not finding proof of a covert operation can only mean one of two things. Either that it didn't take place or that it indeed was covert.

And why could the source not have said Stoltenberg worked with the Americans since the Vietnam war as a figure of speech?

Hersh article is not enough to base an opinion on imo. But it's not precisely worse off after this guys rather hollow arguments.

Howrver the analysis is not a bad start.

astro19238_··on Ask HN: Alcoholism and Career in Software
You will be fine. It would not bother you if not for your alcoholism.

Try to tell someone about this, support is important. Quitting is a bit of a process, but its actually not that hard, it's just hard as fucking fuck some days. You are not alone.

astro19238_··on Can brown noise turn off your brain?

astro19238_··on Tip-flation has some restaurants asking for up to 30% in tips
Well. You pay rent in dollars not percentage so unless both their pay and the prices are raised according to inflation they will sit at a net loss.

Also since cost of living is getting higher and higher one could assume less people eat out. And then, since it is a percentage, servers loose out on tip

Its not reasonable that owners raise prices when there is less guests.

Neither is them raising pay when business is down.

Hence the least unreasonable option for workers is asking for more tip from guests. Since they spend money eating out it's fair to assume they can afford it and therfore might afford to pay more tip.

astro19238_··on Against Discipline
Discipline has no value of it's own. It's a method, among others. There's no way to deduce from a perfectly orgamized garage weather it is because the oganizer had discipline or if he had fun.
