asp_hornet··on Please Do Not Vibe Fuck Up This Software
I guess both things can be true. Make you feel horrible and the reality of open source sometimes.
asp_hornet··on Does anybody like React?
Would be silly to rate your stack without knowing more about what it is and its constraint.

If I had to judge it based on this alone post alone:

Great, seems like a straight forward stack. Would happily work on it.

Only criticism, to get all the ergonomics out of alpine, you sometimes have to lax some CSP or use the CSP build. Not necessarily a deal breaker, it is what it is.

asp_hornet··on Good developers learn to program. Most courses teach a language
> feels like MySpace 2002

I can see why many people wouldn’t like it but I like it because of this. It’s not my style and I wouldn’t do a site like this for myself but it represents a time when the web was an extension of personal expression.

This appears to be the author’s personal style and taste. I’d wager the software he writes for others doesn’t look like this so this is probably creative outlet. I don’t need to look at yet another shadcdn, tailwind cookie cutter sass when reading someone’s blog.

> Is this bad? Not really, just uninspired.

I signed up for a Mobbin account to find inspiration only to find every app and website looks the same. I came to the same conclusion, “this isn’t bad but it’s certainly uninspired”

asp_hornet··on Ask HN: Looking for headless CMS recommendation
Fortunately the top comment seems to be a Wordpress recommendation but I agree with your sentiment completely. The industry has lost the care for people.
asp_hornet··on Structured Errors in Go (2022)
errors aren’t exception
asp_hornet··on Dependency injection frameworks add confusion
C# code bases are all about ruining code navigation with autofac and mediatr
asp_hornet··on I created Perfect Wiki and reached $250k in annual revenue without investors
You used to be able to remote control during desktop sharing.
asp_hornet··on Cheating the Reaper in Go
They introduced generics into the language whilst maintaining compatibility and breaking changes between language versions is painful in large code bases.
asp_hornet··on Why making friends as an adult is harder
That is not what Hikikomori means. Hikikomori is a complete removal of oneself from society often including family and work.
asp_hornet··on A cycling desk / Zwifting with a split keyboard
lol, citation desperately needed
asp_hornet··on M4 MacBook Pro
Whats the alternative? Linux? Maybe OP likes that their OS doesnt crash when they close their laptop lid.
asp_hornet··on Redbox left PII on decommissioned machines
Sounds like most idiomatic C# code bases i saw. Words cant express how happy i am to be outside that bubble
asp_hornet··on iPhone 16 Pro Storage Expansion 128GB to 1TB [video]
Because i really dont want anything to do with google and there is really only 2 choices.
asp_hornet··on Nintendo Files Suit for Infringement of Patent Rights Against Pocketpair, Inc
Its patent infringement not copyright infringement.
asp_hornet··on Good refactoring vs. bad refactoring
> much more readable

That’s down to preference.

Doesnt both filter and map copy the array increasing gc pressure?

asp_hornet··on How to keep up with AI/ML as a full stack dev?
I think this is a great take. Those problems have traditionally been hard to solve in engineering and you can get pretty reliable solutions from just an api call.
asp_hornet··on A blood test accurately diagnosed Alzheimer's 90% of the time, study finds
Aplogies, i know very little about the subject. I just went by the article:

> Testing recommendations could change if scientists find drugs that can delay or halt Alzheimer’s pathology in people who have not yet developed cognitive problems. But for now, said Dr. Boxer, “most of us feel like it would not be ethical to use it in people who don’t yet have symptoms, unless it’s in the context of a research study.”

asp_hornet··on How Does OpenAI Survive?
so we should only listen to the hypotheses of gamblers? The author shouldnt even feel the need to acknowledge the bet. So petty
asp_hornet··on A blood test accurately diagnosed Alzheimer's 90% of the time, study finds
There is a dead comment which is actually quite interesting:

> The specter of dementia frequently makes me want to not live all that long.

What’s the point of knowing you’re probability of Alzheimers if there is no cure or means to delay it. Its just a shadow constantly looming over you and can be used in the future to deny you opportunities.

asp_hornet··on Ruby methods are colorless
I’d rather just stick to languages that don’t have colored functions. You don’t need to be forced to think about this. Your tools manufactured this issue.
asp_hornet··on Mapping Hacker News to find who knows what in the HN community
Dont bother. Im never going to be your demographic. I don't want to be profiled by anything for any purpose especially when 1. that profile is then shared publicly 2. I never got consent. I don’t need tailored recommendations and im not going to assess people based on a third party’s black box interpretation that cant possibly have appropriate context.
asp_hornet··on Mapping Hacker News to find who knows what in the HN community
I hate this. If i used my real name id have some pleb website on the internet making chump guesses at what i know based on what i was prepared to share. Thanks for reminding me to use anonymous burner accounts on everything app i use.
asp_hornet··on Show HN: Haystack – an IDE for exploring and editing code on an infinite canvas
> For large and mature codebases like you mention, I just use LLM to guide me around.

How? What do you call large mature codebases? In my experience LLMs already make many mistakes and assumptions just in one file?

asp_hornet··on Ruby methods are colorless
Only if those doSomething methods were written as asynchronous to begin with.in your original example, doSomethingA was simple, why would it be an async method. If your answer is write every method async for a rainy day, then whats the point.
asp_hornet··on TinyPod – Apple Watch case with scroll wheel
It does exactly what your watch does now. It merely provides a way to interact with the watch in a similar way to the original iPod. Many people have their own personal reasons why they might enjoy this.
asp_hornet··on Andrew S. Tanenbaum Receives ACM Software System Award
Not OP but if it was computer architecture i imagine it would be “structured computer organisation”.

One if my favourite books on computers and looking at the comments, many people here too.

asp_hornet··on The upcoming iterator design for Go 1.23
That is a terrible reason for a feature in a language.
asp_hornet··on Microsoft makes Copilot less useful on new Copilot Plus PCs
I was impressed how quickly they were able to dilute their copilot brand. A new personal record
asp_hornet··on Starlark Language
This is preposterous take. Bazel is a hermetic build. Depending on the dependency graph of a change we can build, and deploy 2 monoliths and a suite of microservices in under 5 minutes. Sometimes less than 1 minute. Developers also get access to a shared build cache so local builds are just as fast. This isnt a fad. It solves problems you havent encountered yet.
