asimovDev··on Gemini 4 Argon
that one is a hardcoded easter egg
asimovDev··on PS5 Relapse Exploit
iirc it's something akin to R5 3600 + RX6700. 16GB of memory shared between RAM and VRAM (at most 12GB can be allocated to VRAM)
asimovDev··on PS5 Relapse Exploit
half of gta 5 online revenue is from PC. They will definitely release GTA 6 for PC, maybe half a year after the console release to get people to double dip (those who bought it on PS5 and then buy it again on PC cause they prefer playing on PC)
asimovDev··on Kids turned low-traffic NPR Spotify comments into a secret group chat
that's pretty cute. They must be in their late 30s by now, I wonder if they still remember doing this
asimovDev··on Hijacking the PS5's RTMP stream
I paid 400e for my PS5 in 2023. For the same budget, I'd need to hunt down used deals for hardware and then suffer through using Windows (if the hardware I buy ends up even working at all) because the only game I play requires annoying workarounds to work on Linux that technically break the ToS (since they bypass the kernel level anticheat) and could potentially end up in my account getting banned. I'd rather just put my PS5 on a VLAN and enjoy hassle free gaming with some downsides like not being able to stream my game to my friends on Discord once half a year. Don't get me started on DRMs and questionable PC ports where the 60 FPS targets in system requirements are under assumption of framegen and upscaling.
asimovDev··on Hijacking the PS5's RTMP stream
I used to remote play on a second user on the PS5 and then used the controller connected to my PS5 to log into my main user profile and then game from there whenever I wanted to stream something to my friend(s). That way the issue of needing to connect the peripherals to the computer was solved
asimovDev··on Hijacking the PS5's RTMP stream
Sony supported PPPoE on the PS4, I wonder how many people used that (not counting the jailbreak exploit)
asimovDev··on Verda (Finland) raises $189M in Series B
You should probably say that you are the founder or maybe add that in your profile description so that other people realize you are not just a passionate employee ;) Congratulations to you and everyone at Verda.

Could you elaborate on your last point about AWS? I am interested in what you mean exactly since a lot of companies in Finland fall under that sub 10M umbrella and use AWS / Azure extensively

asimovDev··on Transit rewards
I sometimes take the slower and older commuter train back home from the office during "green months" as I call them (May to September) to enjoy the scenery and the ambient clickclacks of the train wheels.
asimovDev··on M5 Ultra Mac Studio Review
thanks, I naively assumed when, for example, Claude Code starts subagents it loads a new instance with empty context
asimovDev··on Apple Mac mini review
We've been using M2 Pro machines at our workplace and they still are fast, quiet and have long battery life even at ~85 percent of battery life. It would feel wrong to upgrade from these. 10 years ago it would've been a no brainer to upgrade a 2 year old MacBook in a professional setting but nowadays I feel like I could go 5+ years on a single Apple Silicon macbook with how light our workloads seem to be for these chips
asimovDev··on M5 Ultra Mac Studio Review
can run multiple subagents of Qwen 27B though, right? Unless I am fundamentally misunderstanding how VRAM constraints work
asimovDev··on Spain orders blocks on Archive.today and its mirrors
I imagine those devices are same as Superboxes that were plaguing the USA recently
asimovDev··on Apple M6 Pro achieves the highest single-core CPU score in Geekbench 7

here are the leaderboards for anyone else who was curious

asimovDev··on Hister: A private search engine for the pages you visit and the files you keep
Oh, I haven't considered the possibility of indexing things like Instagram or Discord with this. I am now much more interested than before
asimovDev··on Nvidia announces native GPU programming in Rust
Remembering my teachers 20 years ago talking about staying in school grading until 8-9 PM, I wonder if these things are a symptom instead of a disease
asimovDev··on Show HN: How Stale Is Your AI? Release age and training cutoff for 20 models
Qwen-3.8 for me automatically set copyright footer on a website to 2025 and thought Astro 5.x is the latest version which first came out in December 2024
asimovDev··on Swift 6.4 Released
Thanks!

Interesting tidbit about not having the Foundation library. Every Swift project I worked on had to import that, so I imagine it's annoying to lose that

asimovDev··on Swift 6.4 Released
Anyone have experience with embedded Swift or know any interesting embedded projects running on Swift?
asimovDev··on A repo gained 3,278 stars while GitHub showed Andrej Karpathy as a contributor
I find it amusing that their excuse is that the AI agent forged the commit apparently. I don't what's worse - if that's true or if that's what they have come up with as the excuse
asimovDev··on How much of F-Droid is LLM generated?
The don’t tread on me person is fascinating. I wonder if they wrote the software from their phone using github codespaces in browser?
asimovDev··on I can't stop thinking about Papua New Guinea
i opened it and thought "neat, I will add to my reading list" but instead found myself reading and reading until the end. I got really hooked by the shell inflation part
asimovDev··on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27
oh right, forgot about virtualization. Apple probably still need those customers that spend half of their day in Parallels Desktop
asimovDev··on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27
i wonder if M7 will not have elements in it that help with x86 to ARM on the fly translation that M1 had now that macOS 27 and beyond is ARM only with no Rosetta
asimovDev··on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27
you can add square corners with a terminal command afaik https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/want-the-bigger-window-...
asimovDev··on XCancel service is suspended until further notice
pretty sure it was even worse ten years ago cause very active twitter users would pay for 3rd party twitter apps (maybe twitter didn't have an official app back then? ~2012-2013)

asimovDev··on AI should know that mylocalhost.com – is a real domain
The OP body:

I own mylocalhost.com, never really done anything with it in the last 24 years I have owned it.

Though lately and being the curious type, I have started logging the traffic.

All I can say is I would suggest if you have ever used it as a test domain ( thanks AI for using it as a recommended "test" domain )

I would rotate any sensitive data that you may have sent it.

[mdash was used on purpose]

asimovDev··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
I recently used Gemini flash 3.7 to rebuild my old React portfolio that I made in 2022 into an Astro project after noticing how slow the React version was. It preserved the styling and functionality and made it more maintainable. Pleasant results
asimovDev··on Getting 50 GB/S Back from the Apple Neural Engine
going forward also doesn't work (displays an about; page) so I am wondering if the website is using React or some other framework and the routing library is setup incorrectly, causing this.
