ashnehete··on Small Things
Tangential, but the line saying: "smiles are always free" reminds me of the often overlooked cost of emotional labour performed especially by the service industry. We should also acknowledge this small thing.

Hello, World!

I am an experienced full stack developer currently pursing my master's in Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

Here's my deal: I am young, I am just out of university, but I also have experience building distributed systems at scale. I understand the challenges but I also possess the passion and curiousity to give a 110% to my work. I am open to any and all industries.

I see myself as a jack of all trades with extensive experience with frontend, backend and platform engineering. I aim to use my engineering skills to build powerful applications for my users, and use the best technology for the job.

Regards, Aashish Nehete

ashnehete··on I made nodb, a RESTFful API to store and fetch JSON
I'm assuming the limitation of 10K per month has more to do with their small cloud infrastructure budget than the actual database. Saying that, I can agree that intutively, a webserver can have slower performance than a traditional database but it would be interesting to see some benchmarks.

Hey, I am pursuing my Master's in Computer Science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst seeking Summer or Fall Internships / Co-ops for 2023. I'm also open to full-time jobs from January 2023. I have experience building developer firendly tooling to improve the scalability and realiability of large distributed systems in the cloud. I'm looking to explore a range of software engineering roles so am open to any position.

ashnehete··on Ask HN: What kind of online tools are you using, missing or can be improved?
CyberChef (https://gchq.github.io/CyberChef/) has almost everything I need. It is described as "The Cyber Swiss Army Knife".
ashnehete··on Isoflow – Infrastructure Diagrams
I liked the idea and the looks of this. The user experience can be better.
ashnehete··on I Love MDN, or the cult of the free in action
Can you please provide a link? Its really not giving relevant results on search engines.
ashnehete··on CapRover: Build your own PaaS
I was just thinking the same thing - maybe we can call it self-hosted PaaS.
ashnehete··on Show HN: Writing for Software Developers
Personal opinion on video v/s text channel. While watching a video, I have to follow a linear path, I can't skip much incase I miss some context. On the other hand, its easier to skim written content.
ashnehete··on Ask HN: What are your favorite developer-efficiency tips?
Maintaining a Wiki or any sort of extensive note taking operation requires a lot of dedication and I guess practice? Do you have any tips for someone who wants to start out? Is there a smaller step that one could take initially?
ashnehete··on Ask HN: What are good solo developer blogs that you enjoy reading?

ashnehete··on Why I Switched from Visual Studio Code to JetBrains WebStorm
I can understand that people may perceive VS Code and WebStorm as alternatives. Though, as rightly pointed out by the author, the former is an editor while the latter is an IDE. The whole post just says that in 10 different redundant ways.
ashnehete··on Show HN: Tube – Minimalist YouTube
True all these tools together can be used for building an alternative interface, but the company actually have APIs so that external services are able to integrate into their ecosystem. All the APIs are meant to be used together but each service can choose the API they see fit.
ashnehete··on $PHP = ;
Maybe you just didn't get the point, or are you trying to be sarcastic too?
ashnehete··on Faster Fene: A New Dawn for Marathi Cinema
A recommendation to all those film aficionados out there who love to explore foreign language films.
ashnehete··on Bill Gates buys land in Arizona to build 'smart city'
How much ever we talk about the engineering and technological aspects of this. I think this project still warrants a discussion into the intricacies of the human psychology that goes behind a city/township. Basically, the UI/UX of this whole project.
ashnehete··on Show HN: Yopp – A very quick way to transfer a file from phone to computer
The beauty of this lies in how simple it is. I love it!
ashnehete··on ECMAScript 2017 Language Specification
Yes, I have been through the proposals. Love these new changes. Psychologically it still felt daunting when I first saw it! :P
ashnehete··on ECMAScript 2017 Language Specification
Literally after seeing this on #1 felt like, "Wtf? I just started learning ES6"
ashnehete··on Universities finally realize that Java is a bad intro programming language
Actually, Java was my first language too. And I still don't regret learning programming using Java. How much ever I love JS, I wouldn't have traded it for Java.
ashnehete··on Universities finally realize that Java is a bad intro programming language
Mumbai University curriculum goes from C to Java (actually its more of Object Oriented Methodology) and then we have a separate subject for Computer Organisation and Architecture. This is in 3 contiguous semesters. By the end, we know from low-level to high-level.
ashnehete··on Universities finally realize that Java is a bad intro programming language
I agree. Although JS is a powerful language, it is not suitable to teach in an introductory environment. How about C? It makes the student grasps not only logical constructs but also introduce a portion of computer organisation and architecture.
