asgioiobuio··on Facebook to Let Users Rank Credibility of News
I don't think that would work well at all. "The polar opposite to my norms" is stuff like Alex Jones and Breitbart. I won't learn anything from exposing myself to such idiocy. Dishonest clickbait is worthless, even if it comes from a diversity of viewpoints.

No algorithm is (yet) smart enough to judge the quality of journalism. Facebook shouldn't try.

asgioiobuio··on Intel Has a Big Problem
EPYC is already economically viable. If it's not seen as viable, that's for business rather than technical reasons. It has more cores, better IO, and after these patches it's no longer clear that Intel has simply better performance per core.
asgioiobuio··on The Tether Conundrum: a look into a suspicious cryptocurrency
I've been toying with the idea of a computation-backed currency. Any computer can obviously pay another computer in computer time. This means that any node in the system can issue currency backed by computer time. This would require trust, but it would be trust between neighbors rather than trust in one central exchange.

The problem is that that's not really a currency. It's zillions of IOUs. I don't know how to make transactions between two nodes that don't trust each other or how to come up with one number for someone's net worth.

asgioiobuio··on Reading privileged memory with a side-channel
Oh, come on. Their only goal is to make Google money. The fact that they do useful work is a nice side effect, but if they didn't improve Google's security and give good PR there's not a chance in Hell Google would keep them around.
asgioiobuio··on Linux page table isolation is not needed on AMD processors
They could get AMD hardware that works today. We don't know when Intel will have working hardware. It will be at least months and possibly years. Processor design is a long process.
asgioiobuio··on Record-breaking hybrid drone stays aloft for over four hours
Can we stop talking about quadcopters as if they're the only kind of drone on the planet? There are other kinds of drones with far better endurance, e.g. Predator drones which can stay in the air for 24 hours.
asgioiobuio··on An update on Better Ads (Chrome native ad-blocking)
Terrible analogy. It's like me putting my hand in front of my eyes to block out the view.

They don't have to serve me content. But since they do, I can view it however I wish.
