asdfsa32··on Can gzip be a language model?
lossless vs lossy is the question.
asdfsa32··on [dead]
> DLLs were already shipping Rust

No they were not. Why is this rubbish on front page?

asdfsa32··on Grok 4.7
There are no facts only interpretations. - Frederick Nietzsche

But honestly, it is because numbers are like people; torture them enough and they'll tell you anything.

asdfsa32··on Waymo in Singapore
Rains a lot and often around 30°C. Walking is not always an option if you need to be presentable wherever you're going.
asdfsa32··on Mistral X Mozilla: Private, Multilingual AI Browsing
This should BE front and centre and what is sold, not ads for a 3rd party.
asdfsa32··on Apple's Dimensional Drawings
You seem to forget the "you can't at all" part with new Apple hardware. Of course, everything has a limit on upgrades, but not being able to upgrade your RAM or at very least SSD is insane that we put up with. This is pure anti-consumer cartel outcome.
asdfsa32··on Apple's Dimensional Drawings
This is apologia. There is a mile between being stuck with 16GB of ram vs on DDR5 or even DDR5. The analogy is absurd.
asdfsa32··on Apple's Dimensional Drawings
This is the typical thinking of the toolmaker. It is not useful in markets. Apple is not in the business of engineering software, their in the business of consumer hardware.
asdfsa32··on Nine coding harnesses vs. your laptop
What is with the website though? Rubbish scrolling. Junky rendering with artifacts if you scroll fast.
asdfsa32··on Cognition launches new SWE-2 model, Rivaling Fable 5.1 and GPT-Astra
You should use my model then, I spent about 30$ in electricity and used my existing RTX4090. It is not very good, but can you compare it with others really? You can use this service via a private API with a VPN, email me your credit card details for access.
asdfsa32··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
Okay, makes sense, the whole thing looks and screams vibe coded. On a beefy machine, navigating between your website pages takes 2-3 seconds. So still a long way to go with AI.
asdfsa32··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
> Are there cybersecurity concerns in the frontend? I would have thought you have to assume the client is untrusted and only do security work on the backend.

I hate software engineering now.

asdfsa32··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
This is the most naive take on security ever. For the backend, you assume your client is compromised, but you still don't want to allow your client to be compromised.
asdfsa32··on Shopify is moving from React Native back to Swift and Kotlin
I am using Gemini as well as Opus on a somewhat small project in React Native and I can not imagine this thing being able to build the whole thing on its own without it being a dumbpster fire.

Can you share some details of how you work? What models? What harness?

asdfsa32··on Shopify moves back to Native from React Native
I was surprised by your comments and then you do Rust to be called via Java or Kotlin and Swift?

What does your app do?

asdfsa32··on Shopify moves back to Native from React Native
Codex with what model?
asdfsa32··on We built our house for LAN parties (2024)
Everything is a preference. You should stop thinking!
asdfsa32··on We built our house for LAN parties (2024)
> Really cool house, but describing the cabinets as "bunch of wood, cut into fairly large pieces. Maybe a few screws and hinges" shows little understanding of what goes into building something like that.

I mean, the whole place looks like a cookie cutter office block. The lack of appreciation and want for good design goes far deeper.

asdfsa32··on We built our house for LAN parties (2024)
Did you look through the accomplishments? I don't mean to be crass but I like a bit of weight for "accomplished".

I mean, the American Express office looks like a track stop or mall you will find along the highway.

asdfsa32··on We built our house for LAN parties
The will to do and the power to do does not mean well to do.
asdfsa32··on Ask HN: Fable hacked my piano, can I release the results?
Let them do it. It will end up really well. I know the system has been protecting these companies, but that has been an economic concern as much as other motives. Now that AI is the crown jewel of economy and global dominance, let the entertainment industry have a go at it. Let them.
asdfsa32··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
Without being able to see the prompts, it is hard to make any assertions about honesty, we all know OpenAI is in trouble because they're showing ads already. And that is something that Sam has clearly marked as time of trouble for them.

The website is also looks just like a PR project. It is hard to believe anything.

asdfsa32··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
This is a PR puff piece.
asdfsa32··on .name Termination
This is why new gTLDs are insane and stupid. It is about time there is some _yours for life_ DNS system.

In this age, allowing domain names to be owned by other entities is almost like allowing a company business registration number or one's national id card number to be transferred to others.

I think name squatting is a problem, but it is not like that current system has solved it.

asdfsa32··on Claude Fable 5.1 and Claude Mythos 5.1
> the models writing more for themselves and each other than for humans

What does this means?

asdfsa32··on Htmx 4.0
Have you looked at the project for which htmx4 is released for? it is basically mvc + toolbelt + network library and all that jazz like it is 2012.
asdfsa32··on Htmx 4.0
Not react yet, but it is approaching the early 2010 jQuery and Backbone vibes, so give it another 5 years and it will converge to React.
asdfsa32··on Htmx 4.0
And by the looks of it, the Author is starting to understand the reason React and the likes exists and has start to build them over again: https://fixiproject.org/

LOL. Frontend dev never changes.

asdfsa32··on JIT Compiling Code in 5μs
The page lists a long list of defences.
asdfsa32··on JIT Compiling Code in 5μs
Okay, I misunderstood your point. What you're saying seems pretty reasonable to me.
