asdfgadsfgasfdg··on Google Calendar should prevent spam by default
Google calendar is fairly standards compliant. Just add the calendar to the built in iOS calendar app....

Yes they are. Every single other one of her posts for the last month is flag flagged - and this one is only not killed because I vouched it. Turn on showdead and view her comments. (NB if she has written to HN and got the account un-banned before you do this the posts will probably be un-killed.)

Really? I think most people still know how to go to a website (they might go there by googling the url but that is another matter).

asdfgadsfgasfdg··on How do I permanently delete my account?
Yeah I think that these arguments will just lead to a company getting a fine.

My data is mine not yours. If I withdraw my consent to you having it just delete it. If you can't do this then don't collect my data in the first place.

It is a similar concept to export of physical goods into a country/trade block. Either comply with the local regulations on quality or your goods will not be allowed.

The US State Department does not really get to have a stated position other than diplomatic.

asdfgadsfgasfdg··on Should Your Spouse Be Your Best Friend?
It's not about the partner's loyalty. Loyalty has very little to do with emotions and works at a higher level. If someone spends a lot of quality time with an individual whilst their home life is stressful (kids etc) then they will almost inevitably develop an attraction to them (or to the idealized version that one has of someone one doesn't have to live with). Meanwhile at home feelings of being in-love have faded to loving and the day-to-day realities are there and obvious. Then it is game over and loyalty is fairly unlikely to prevent things happening.

Better to spend quality time with your spouse and re-enforce the bond the two of you have for each other.

> And that's if you actually get a real reporter to look at these things; most articles are just press releases that are cut and pasted from a university press lackey into the newspaper's publishing system. Those are usually even worse.

Actually if the researchers expect the paper to be high impact they will often provide the press release to the University's press department themselves - these types of press releases are merely a layman directed abstract and tend to be reasonably OK.

This raises two interesting points.

1. Sometimes the lowest quality newspapers have the best quality article on a given publication.

2. Why aren't all research publications required to be accompanied by a second abstract written in plain low jargon language that can be understood at some level by someone with high school science?

asdfgadsfgasfdg··on Why kernel development still uses email (2016)
I wish I could reject messages where the subject and body did not correspond.

Or maybe give up and have some sort of manual threading overlay where I could rearrange and add my subject tags for messages..

asdfgadsfgasfdg··on How the Catalan government uses IPFS to sidestep Spain's legal block
The UK's libel laws are rather regressive (although they improved a bit recently for the GB bit the NI bit of the UK still has the old laws). There are books and documentaries which are available everywhere except the UK for this reason.

On a government level the UK regularly imprisons people for facebook/twitter posts (that would be protected by US first amendment).

If teaching is indeed universally bad (which I doubt but lets go with the idea as a thought experiment) - then surely the issue must lie with training/the accepted teaching methods?
asdfgadsfgasfdg··on Leaked document: EU Presidency calls for massive internet filtering
There is some truth in the idea that the growth of the EU was intended to slow down the process of federalization. The UK pushed hard for the growth in the 2000's and was also a proponent of Turkey joining for these reasons.

Will you integrate with standard calendar technology? E.g. caldav etc?

I'm still not convinced that voice is a platform - it seems like more of a feature to me...

asdfgadsfgasfdg··on Feather: Open-source icons
> Don't you think it depends on a lot of factors, not just the use of a different icons?

Of course - it all adds up. The trick is knowing where and when it is worth differentiating.

asdfgadsfgasfdg··on Feather: Open-source icons
OTH if you use their icons from e.g. Bootstrap as they are usually used then users actually recognize them without thinking and the icons actually help users interact with your website - which is the point of the icons anyway!

The same goes for classic simple buttons, nav bars color pallets etc - users know them already before they interact with your site. Most of that design work you did to make you site "different" or "beautiful" just made your site less intuitive for a user.

This opinion comes from experience building b2b webapps - users generally wish they didn't need to do the admin work the webapp is helping them do. So user stories are dominated by building the simplest quickest workflows to allow users to capture, fetch or manipulate the data they need and to then get back on with their lives - having standard controls that are familiar from other sites helps with this.

Doesn't facebook's moderation rely upon someone flagging the content? (And stuff which is flagged gets heavily moderated.) It looks like she annoyed/offended a specific person who flagged her content - hence it was viewed by the heavy handed moderators. Her friends did not have the same reach as her - so their posts did not annoy anyone enough to flag them - so the moderators never saw their posts.
