The more experience I get, the more I prefer it
asciii··on Hell is overconfident developers writing encryption code
I did not learn a single thing from this article. I did learn quite a bit from the programmer's stuff and situation.

> Americans excel at 0-to-1 technical innovation, while Chinese excel at 1-to-10 application innovation.

I was thinking the same thing...how much is that investment mostly grift?

asciii··on Open Heart Protocol
Yeah I thought this was some Pacemaker design stuff.
asciii··on Starship Flight 7
I was on r/flightradar24 and someone was listening on ATC and heard that one of the flights declared emergency due to fuel.

Other planes were also caught up in the chaos but SJU was at capacity apparently

asciii··on Agents Are Not Enough
Diabolical - I love it. Impressed that the final score came up as an alert!
asciii··on Extracting AI models from mobile apps
> My next article will be about CoreML on iOS, doing the same exact thing :)

Can't wait - thanks for writing it up!

asciii··on Extracting AI models from mobile apps
That's pretty cool! I am impressed by the Frida tool, especially to read in the binary and dump it to disk by overwriting the native method.

The author only mentions APK for Android, but what about iOS IPA? Is there an alternative method for handling that archive?

asciii··on They have not been trained for this
Thank you! I have to say that my favorite in their latest update is the 60 day counter can be reset after closing the cabin door and hitting the SOS in the toilet. Now I want interview with the engineers sharing these product requirements...
asciii··on Grok is now free for all X users
I have not used Grok or know of any comparisons to other LLMs - so did the Twitter datasets give them any edge in performance or other quality of benchmark?
asciii··on Redis is trying to take over the all of the OSS Redis libraries
So, after reading the Github[1] comments, Redis needs a rust client library. It's hilarious to watch the legal and PM figure this out. No strategy. Just trying to solve "enterprise" needs because I'm sure someone asked for a rust client they'd pay over the moon for.

asciii··on SafeRent class action lawsuit on algorithm reaches final settlement
> Louis’ attorneys, along with the U.S. Department of Justice, which submitted a statement of interest in the case, argued that SafeRent’s algorithm could be held accountable because it still plays a role in access to housing. The judge denied SafeRent’s motion to dismiss on those counts.

> The settlement stipulates that SafeRent can’t include its score feature on its tenant screening reports in certain cases, including if the applicant is using a housing voucher. It also requires that if SafeRent develops another screening score it plans to use, it must be validated by a third-party that the plaintiffs agree to.

asciii··on Netflix is removing nearly all of its interactive titles
Netflix is private about their data so I'm curious why they did the interactive video route.

Maybe they had money lying around and there was no market need. I'd be curious to know.

asciii··on How electric trains work and why they make interesting sounds [video]
Wow! I love HN for these finds, thank you
asciii··on How electric trains work and why they make interesting sounds [video]
That's really neat - it sounds like a violin. I can barely keep a tune so I'm wondering if anyone knows anything special about the melody
asciii··on Keynes on the influence of furniture on love
> The false rumor began after an X user made up that Vance's 2016 memoir, Hillbilly Elegy, included a passage about having sex with an "inside-out latex glove shoved between two couch cushions."

asciii··on How Postgres stores data on disk – this one's a page turner
I just saw something similar with a user on here dangsux...

Apparently might be Dang's UX and not against the Mod. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

asciii··on Dear AWS, please let me be a cloud engineer again
> I simply cannot imagine ex. 2000 Apple/Steve Jobs falling for this.

No he would not entertain any of this nonsense. IIRC he had a hard time with the Siri demo too. It appears Apple is happy to take itself and shareholders on a side quest with all their cash…good time to be earning interest on it too.

asciii··on How to get root access to your Sleep Number bed
This is the kind of bed I would buy. Imagine having to buy a bed with access for Wi-Fi. That’s crazy because that’s more hardware needed than just plugging the freaking thing in the wall.
asciii··on Show HN: SHAllenge – Compete to get the lowest hash
> Win and iPhone 3GS

Got a 404 but the title was a nice throwback, $2k in cloud credits too!

asciii··on Visualizing malicious IP addresses
> How is it ok that if you use the internet, you, as a low trust society member, magically get access to a wealthier high trust society full of "suckers".

The internet is the greatest leveler. Don't hate the player, hate the game. If someone is a "low" trust society member and made a contribution to the entire network, we ALL benefit.

Also, isolating doesn't do shit because the big tech would like to monitor you solely for themselves (i.e. Tiktok).

asciii··on Reddit is taking over Google
Quora's top answer is always an AI chatbot IIRC. It is very annoying compared to what it used to be...I still miss Yahoo Answers
asciii··on Ask HN: What is the most useless project you have worked on?
Was it her only business / source of income?

I know a gentleman who does something similar even though a large portion of his wealth is in the real estate industry. His tech gains are just from a network of friends that gave money to his company and lip service to "acquisition."
