Commenting this +1 from Harmonic on Android, it's fantastic.
artogahr··on Apple CEO Tim Cook requests and receives a 40% pay cut
Not sure why this isn't mentioned more often.
artogahr··on What do I need to buy to beat my iPhone 14 Pro?
From the full post:

> Why haven't I sold my cameras:

> workflow, the default JPEG/HEIF output of the iPhone is just sad, in fact I think it's worse than years before, there's so much sharpening, so much dynamic range, it just looks super fake and super flat. I could use an app to fix it, but they never work as smoothly as the native camera app.

> because of how the iPhone is magically enhancing these photos, there will be a degradation in image quality when shooting fast, which is not a problem on traditional cameras

artogahr··on I'm done with Google
I wouldn't say "it doesn't have much content". 95% of the time I can find what I look from first try just using 1337x.
artogahr··on Quest for my perfect watch
> and I remembered why I loved mechanical watches so much.

Why? :)

artogahr··on Write better error messages
I don't understand why they wouldn't have a dropdown below the error that would reveal the technical jargon.
artogahr··on Why Rust?
Also me. Albeit probably not as experienced as OP, I still would like to help.
artogahr··on Trying new programming languages helped me grow as a software engineer
I'm still getting that
artogahr··on Why I Don't Use Netscape (1999)
Hey, thanks for this! I looked online for the release date of the emacs extension he's using, which dates back to 1997. But he mentioned it being quite old so I didn't know what to put as the (year).
artogahr··on Why I Don't Use Netscape (1999)
I indeed did! I thought people here would find it interesting.
artogahr··on Why I Don't Use Netscape (1999)
I'm inclined to make the comment that the "average Joe" doesn't actually know what he wants, in respect to what's actually good for him in the long term.
artogahr··on False memory implantation in adults is easy
Couldn't it be that his brain only fabricates that part of the memory, to fill in the blanks of panic period of being underwater?
artogahr··on Upgrade to Linux
Shh, don't give them ideas!
artogahr··on Transmission 4.0.0 beta 1
Streaming services are increasingly going over cable TV route and screwing customers over. The age of piracy is back.

artogahr··on Gnome 43 Released
The extensions ecosystem [1] is great for customizing and I'm yet to find something I need to cusomize that doesn't have an extension for that.

artogahr··on Bitwarden raises $100M
Yeah it's nice and all but I wish they brought fingerprint auth to Linux already:

artogahr··on DIY mechanical keyboard switch lets you set its actuation point
This is one of the coolest things I've ever seen, thanks for sharing!
artogahr··on Show HN: Ubähnchen – Animated subway map of Berlin
Same for me, even I set "layers.acceleration.force-enabled" to true. Chrome and Chromium are smooth.

EDIT: Turning "High Resolution" (in the settings of the webpage on top right) off and on seems to fix the issue somehow? It's smooth now, but reloading takes it back to choppy.

artogahr··on An Introduction to PipeWire
This looks really cool, but how do I select which microphone it uses for filtering? If I choose "Noise Canceling source" as the input device like the guide suggests, is that source picking up noise from my laptop's internal microphone, my usb headset microphone, or my bluetooth headphones' microphone? I don't see an obvious way to control that.
artogahr··on Poll: Contractors, what is your hourly rate
Me, used to do full-time-style remote contract work for a company in Europe, and my hourly rate was $10/h. Granted it was still good money compared to where I live, but there you go.

Now moved to and working in Europe as a TAC engineer for $18.5/h.

artogahr··on The end of the manual transmission is near?
That's never going to happen en masse because petrolheads are always going to complain "But it's not the real thing and you're a stupid person for enjoying it!!!"
artogahr··on Ask HN: What's up with these DoorDash dark patterns?
I wonder how other people think about this kind of living.

Gnome would disagree :)
