artisinal··on US Forces Exit Iraq
While I don't believe that Western Europe caused wars in the Middle East for cheap labour / increased birthrate, I do see how big European corporations massively benefit from having a large influx of refugees. They do the jobs that natives don't want to do anymore. If you are looking for a garbage collector, a native will likely want 150% of minimum wage for that job. A recent refugee eager to start working has no problem doing the same job for minimum wage and zero benefits.
artisinal··on Cops Can Bypass iPhone's Automatic Reboot to Get into Locked Phones
It's a bit difficult to remote erase your phone while you are in custody.

Unless you are Norwegian royalty and are notified of your upcoming arrest, then you can wipe all you need.

If you have an iPhone Air you can smuggle it inside your prison pocket while you carry a burner.
artisinal··on US Forces Exit Iraq
Europe gained millions of refugees / cheap labour.
artisinal··on Replacing the old battery on rechargeable bike lights
This is an unsolvable problem for an LLM. An LLM is not physical, it can not measure the diameter of the battery and thus will never know the correct battery type.
artisinal··on Replacing the old battery on rechargeable bike lights
What shortcomings did it have? Like never having to charge anything? Not needing an app? Not needing wireless communications? Not needing to pair? Sound like terrible shortcomings.
artisinal··on Replacing the old battery on rechargeable bike lights
I would just take my bike, sit on the seat, peddle and never had to think about lights. How is that with the Garmin solution?

How is it unlikely that I forget to turn off the computer?

artisinal··on Replacing the old battery on rechargeable bike lights
That is why I turned off the AI summary on Google. Useless 90% of the time, takes up space on my screen.
artisinal··on Replacing the old battery on rechargeable bike lights
A bicycle tail light that wirelessly connects to a central computer to turn itself off? I really hate the timeline we live in. Back in my time a bicycle tail light was connector to a dynamo and a capacitor. It would automatically shut off after a minute or two. No Bluetooth required.
artisinal··on Replacing the old battery on rechargeable bike lights
And this is why you don't ask an LLM such questions. An LLM will give you a random battery type as it doesn't have calipers nor hands to measure the size of the battery.
artisinal··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
That is a bold claim you are making here. Want to expand on that?
artisinal··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
English is not my first language.

A five euro package has:

€1.05 VAT

€3 duty per product category

€0.36 VAT on duty

€2 EU per package fee (per 1 November)

That is €6.41 in tax/duty/fees/tariffs whatever you may call it over a €5 value.

artisinal··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
As if we don’t have tariffs. My AliExpress packages are taxed over 100%
artisinal··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
I must be well traveled since I travel internationally multiple times a week! I even do intercontinental weekend getaways.

Not that hard as a European.

artisinal··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
Americans have money for traveling but not the time off.

Europeans have time for traveling but not money. A third of Europeans can’t even afford a one week holiday.

artisinal··on The Mafia may be keeping fentanyl out of Italy
Well if the user dies of constipation the poop never enters the sewer :)
artisinal··on The Mafia may be keeping fentanyl out of Italy
Does wastewater drug monitoring account / offset for constipation caused by drug use?

There isn't anything to measure if the poop is unable to leave the end-user.

artisinal··on Pentium II at 600Mhz with Voodoo 3 Emulated on 86Box with M6 Mac Mini
I vaguely remember running a PlayStation emulator (bleem?) on my Pentium III 1Ghz processor.

Once the Mac mini M8 is released, will we be able to emulate a Pentium III which runs PlayStation emulation?

artisinal··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
If you ever have a problem with your Chinese EV, just call the Ministry of State Security. I'm sure they can scan it for fault codes. They're probably already monitoring it.
artisinal··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
All devices I own can be monitored, maintained and adjusted on the device itself. I prefer that over an app that will eventually not be supported on my phone anymore or one that moves to a subscription based service. The phase-out of 3G also showed a downside of connected devices, older cars suddenly lost all their connectivity.

No I don't have house monitoring. I have a metal key that I use to enter it. When I enter the home, there is a rectangular box that I press with my finger, and it turns on the light. The A/C (that also does heating) can be set to a certain temperature with a hardwired box on the wall. That is all the tech I have at home.

With a car, I prefer a car that I can monitor on the dashboard or center console itself. Fault codes can be read over OBD with standardized equipment. I have owned cars over 15 years old that could still tell me what was wrong without needing an app or subscription.

artisinal··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
Depends on what counts in that 57 million. Just the base Corolla, or also the Corolla Verso that was actually based on the Avensis platform? What about the Toyota Auris? Toyota Conquest? Holden Nova? Geo Prizm?

I wonder if you combine the numbers of the VW Golf, Rabbit, Bora, Jetta, Corrado and Scirocco if it beats that 57 million.

artisinal··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
Funny, I will not buy a car that has an app.
artisinal··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
The upside of using a platform for EV and hybrid engines is that it typically looks a lot better aesthetically than an EV only platform.

Just look at the Mercedes S class versus the EQS. The EQS was ground up designed as an EV and because of the design decisions made in that process is the ugliest Mercedes designed ever.

Same with the Audi A6 which was always a masterclass in design and now is a generic blob of a car with the new EV only model.

Typical Spain. Making the country less productive so the football billionaires can get richer.

We could save a lot of money and emissions if we brought the continents back together! Imagine Paris to New York by high speed train.
artisinal··on I'm being cyberattacked by Tesla, Inc
Would have been fun if the NTP server would return dates in the futures for requests from Netgear equipment, making certificates invalid and giving people an awful experience.
artisinal··on Data collected by cars and sold to third parties
Since when is Tesla software great? Every time I get into a Tesla I have to spend five minutes to pair my iPhone over Bluetooth like it’s 2010. I then have to place my phone on the wireless charging pad and enjoy navigation on the small screen of my phone since it doesn’t support CarPlay. I have to make a playlist of my music before the trip since I can’t control my music safely.
