artisinal··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
English is not my first language.

A five euro package has:

€1.05 VAT

€3 duty per product category

€0.36 VAT on duty

€2 EU per package fee (per 1 November)

That is €6.41 in tax/duty/fees/tariffs whatever you may call it over a €5 value.

As if we don’t have tariffs. My AliExpress packages are taxed over 100%

I must be well traveled since I travel internationally multiple times a week! I even do intercontinental weekend getaways.

Not that hard as a European.

Americans have money for traveling but not the time off.

Europeans have time for traveling but not money. A third of Europeans can’t even afford a one week holiday.

artisinal··on The Mafia may be keeping fentanyl out of Italy
Well if the user dies of constipation the poop never enters the sewer :)
artisinal··on The Mafia may be keeping fentanyl out of Italy
Does wastewater drug monitoring account / offset for constipation caused by drug use?

There isn't anything to measure if the poop is unable to leave the end-user.

artisinal··on Pentium II at 600Mhz with Voodoo 3 Emulated on 86Box with M6 Mac Mini
I vaguely remember running a PlayStation emulator (bleem?) on my Pentium III 1Ghz processor.

Once the Mac mini M8 is released, will we be able to emulate a Pentium III which runs PlayStation emulation?

Error! Please drink a verification can.
artisinal··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
If you ever have a problem with your Chinese EV, just call the Ministry of State Security. I'm sure they can scan it for fault codes. They're probably already monitoring it.
artisinal··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
All devices I own can be monitored, maintained and adjusted on the device itself. I prefer that over an app that will eventually not be supported on my phone anymore or one that moves to a subscription based service. The phase-out of 3G also showed a downside of connected devices, older cars suddenly lost all their connectivity.

No I don't have house monitoring. I have a metal key that I use to enter it. When I enter the home, there is a rectangular box that I press with my finger, and it turns on the light. The A/C (that also does heating) can be set to a certain temperature with a hardwired box on the wall. That is all the tech I have at home.

With a car, I prefer a car that I can monitor on the dashboard or center console itself. Fault codes can be read over OBD with standardized equipment. I have owned cars over 15 years old that could still tell me what was wrong without needing an app or subscription.

Depends on what counts in that 57 million. Just the base Corolla, or also the Corolla Verso that was actually based on the Avensis platform? What about the Toyota Auris? Toyota Conquest? Holden Nova? Geo Prizm?

I wonder if you combine the numbers of the VW Golf, Rabbit, Bora, Jetta, Corrado and Scirocco if it beats that 57 million.

artisinal··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
Funny, I will not buy a car that has an app.

The upside of using a platform for EV and hybrid engines is that it typically looks a lot better aesthetically than an EV only platform.

Just look at the Mercedes S class versus the EQS. The EQS was ground up designed as an EV and because of the design decisions made in that process is the ugliest Mercedes designed ever.

Same with the Audi A6 which was always a masterclass in design and now is a generic blob of a car with the new EV only model.

artisinal··on Spain orders blocks on Archive.today and its mirrors
Typical Spain. Making the country less productive so the football billionaires can get richer.

Fair.

Perhaps we can extend the Black Sea to keep those dirty Russians out of Europe

Hello, you are going against the internet narrative of "america bad" please stop doing that.

We could save a lot of money and emissions if we brought the continents back together! Imagine Paris to New York by high speed train.
artisinal··on I'm being cyberattacked by Tesla, Inc
Would have been fun if the NTP server would return dates in the futures for requests from Netgear equipment, making certificates invalid and giving people an awful experience.
artisinal··on Data collected by cars and sold to third parties
Since when is Tesla software great? Every time I get into a Tesla I have to spend five minutes to pair my iPhone over Bluetooth like it’s 2010. I then have to place my phone on the wireless charging pad and enjoy navigation on the small screen of my phone since it doesn’t support CarPlay. I have to make a playlist of my music before the trip since I can’t control my music safely.
artisinal··on I fixed a tractor using John Deere's self-repair service. Farmers aren't sold
Most millionaires are asset millionaires. Almost nobody has a million in their savings account.
artisinal··on I fixed a tractor using John Deere's self-repair service. Farmers aren't sold
Where I am from most farmers are millionaires. They are all corporations. 200 per machine per year is nothing to them.

> backwater places where the right to repair isn't enshrined in law (like the usa)

You just called most of the world a backwater place.

artisinal··on San Francisco institution 'heartbroken and furious' after erasure of public art
So you are OK with it if I paint a big mural on your car, home, laptop, phone?
artisinal··on San Francisco institution 'heartbroken and furious' after erasure of public art
Art is cool.

Painting your art on someone else's private property is not.

Pushing your political agenda in public spaces is especially not cool. I just want to walk outside and enjoy the world, don't want your political agenda pushed on me.

artisinal··on San Francisco institution 'heartbroken and furious' after erasure of public art
Pushing your personal agenda in public spaces on people by using someone's private property makes you a hero?
artisinal··on iPhone Duo
No, because then you pay full price. If you buy your iPhone at a third party retailer the price is much lower.

The iPhone Air is €1329 at Apple and €849 at retailers.

artisinal··on San Francisco institution 'heartbroken and furious' after erasure of public art
That is fine. Just don't use private property in the public space for it. Put it in an art gallery somewhere.
artisinal··on San Francisco institution 'heartbroken and furious' after erasure of public art
Is it morally or socially acceptable to paint over someone else's private property?
artisinal··on San Francisco institution 'heartbroken and furious' after erasure of public art
Looked it up on Google. I don't like people claiming public space to push their personal agenda. Those alleys are for everyone, stop using it for your personal agenda. Please make a-political art.
artisinal··on iPhone Duo
Is that $3000 a deposit that you get if you return it in good condition? In that case we would definitely call that renting.

> Is the difference between renting and leasing even meaningful?

Where I live, yes. If you lease you are the owner, with the financing company having the ability to seize it when you don't pay. If you rent you are not the owner, but are allowed to use it. Renting is a bit plebeian.
