Why do you hate sudokoin?

I'm a bleeding heart hippie but agree 100%.. and when you dig deeper, you may find that those propagating the fud around crypto are actually speculators trying to drive prices.. which makes the fake outrage even more sick.
artifact_44··on Bitcoin mining hash rate drops as blackouts instituted in China
Once you understand this, you start to understand how the recent FUD about crypto is generated by people with an agenda.

Do you see capitalism as working for/against our future?
artifact_44··on FLoC Away from Chrome
It's not googles fault that you can't afford to fork their browser into a competing product.
artifact_44··on FLoC Away from Chrome
Google bought widevine last year. Now you can use it on raspberry pi, and other devices. So while true, your statement actually is an example of google making the infrastructure more available under the google umbrella.

Google didn't invent that particular DRM, but now that it's widespread, they have bought it outright.

I don't know if their purchase included the rights to open source it in the near future, but it wouldn't surprise me.

However, Amazon Prime Video, BBC, Hulu, Netflix, Spotify and Disney+ all use widevine, so I imagine there are more companies at play in this scenario than just google.

lol. uh huh.
artifact_44··on FLoC Away from Chrome
Edge is Chrome with OS integration.

artifact_44··on FLoC Away from Chrome
Yes. the latest edge is a chromium fork, and there is bidirectional development/patches being submitted by MS. I've heard anecdotally that much of MS' effort has been in de-googling chrome, but given MS history, it is probably being replaced with their own telemetry, with the added bonus of integrating their telemetry on the OS level as well.

73% improvement reads like "almost twice as fast", to me.

100% faster would be twice as fast.

artifact_44··on The political case for a blanket cryptocurrency ban
Ok. Let's ban capitalism.
artifact_44··on The political case for a blanket cryptocurrency ban
We can't allow the poors to pillage the planet.. That's reserved for "wallstreets crazy traders".
artifact_44··on You can't censor away extremism or any other problem
No. Deplatforming actually works really really well. The irony of this being on HN where shadowbanning is de rigeur.
artifact_44··on Google’s FLoC Is a Terrible Idea
Exactly. It was literally the government/edu/dod/doe that gave us the internet.

Web service should be nationalized, and so should Chrome.

Those "rich people" are in the position they are due to consumer ignorance and apathy, but above all, they are our guests at the trough.

Show me someone complaining about over-regulation, and I'll show you someone whos being a hog.

artifact_44··on Web API Controversy
Those apis are why I will only use chrome until other browsers get it together.

A cylinder like.. a cylinder with flat ends? No aerodynamic control surfaces? Was it metal? Was it rotating along an axis? Did it make a sound? Was it 1 foot, 10 feet or 100 feet long? Did it leave a vapor trail? Your story sounds like bullshit.
artifact_44··on Recreating Real-World Terrain with React, Three.js and WebGL Shaders
There's a lot of disinfo in this thread. React-three-fiber is great. Threejs by itself is also great. R3F allows people with minimal low level 3d graphics knowledge, to use higher level constructs they are familiar with, i.e. dom elements and react, to rapidly build compelling interactive 3d experiences. The aframe library is a similar kind of abstraction. WebGL has a thriving ecosystem and IMO is a signpost for the future of visual computing. Cross platform, OS agnostic 3D for the masses.

artifact_44··on The False and Exaggerated Claims Still Being Spread About the Capitol Riot
Typo in your article, Glenn.. you misspelled Ashli, as Ashil.

Glenn Greenwald is a propagandist. When the true story of his bizarre descent into his current occupation comes out, it will be fascinating.

Good. Riddance. (SF resident of 30 years). I used to lament having to commute 2 hours to SV, but then SV came here, and boy, the City has gone to shit because of it.
artifact_44··on British engineers develop process to turn moon dust into oxygen
I think hn itself is a counterpoint to your assertion. The toxic culture hasn't really "emerged" here as it has on countless other platforms, due primarily to ruthless call-out/moderation/shadow banning etc.
artifact_44··on Show HN: Scratch.js – Interactive JavaScript Scratchpad
I've done this and it works surprisingly well. I made a timesliced js scripting system this way.. it looked imperative with tight loops but it was all asynchronous. It felt like a threaded app.
