arrayjumper··on Riding the Tiger: Lessons Learned Implementing Istio
This is very close to our experience of working with Kubernetes and istio for over an year. You get so many things seemingly for free that when things work as expected the whole thing is actually quite nice.

It is when things don't work as expected that it's really hard to find help. We had this issue happen a couple of weeks ago where we were trying to connect from one of our clusters to an Elasticache instance. We could connect to it from a namespace with istio sidecars disabled but not from a namespace with it enabled. We could also connect to it from a namespace in a different cluster which did have istio enabled. It took nearly a week to figure that out because there is so little prior art (in terms of stackoverflow questions, github issues etc). This comes with the territory of using something relatively new I suppose.

What did whatsapp over-hype?

arrayjumper··on Alternatives to Google Products
Android has over 2 billion users. 0.01% of that is still 2 million humans.
arrayjumper··on The New Wave of Indian Type
How is that a pro-OurLanguage protest? The board already had Kannada and English. In addition, Hindi was being added. That is clearly an anti-Hindi protest. Not a pro-Kannada protest.
arrayjumper··on The New Wave of Indian Type
There are also a few anti-OtherLanguage protests.

For example, this is hardly "pro-OurLanguage" - http://www.thehindu.com/news/cities/bangalore/karnataka-raks...

arrayjumper··on Opening the code of our X-Pack features
Not OP. One reason i find it is hard to pay you is because there is no way to buy your product without talking to someone. The pricing is not listed anywhere on your website.
arrayjumper··on Show HN: Buy Me A Coffee – A free, fast and friendly way to receive donations
This looks nice! How does your product compare with Patreon? (edit:) The difference I notice about it is that this looks a lot less demanding than Patreon. A lot more laissez faire if you will.

Oh and, https://buymeacoff.ee/nettem :)

arrayjumper··on Science’s Pirate Queen
Don't know about OP. In my experience a lot/most Computational Biology papers are Open Access.
arrayjumper··on Monitoring Home Power Consumption for less than $25
Probably to keep hardware costs low.
arrayjumper··on The East India Company, the original corporate raiders
A case can be made that since the British looted foreign countries to create their infrastructure it is only fair that the citizens of those countries be allowed to enjoy the fruits of their ancestors' labours.

2 things -

1. The British Raj is still in living memory. All 3 of my surviving grandparents were born before independence and were adults and married by 1947 (when India gained independence). They remember British rule. Comparing the criticism that an evil empire from living memory receives with empires that came before it is pretty disingenuous.

2. As an Indian, it leaves a bad taste in the mouth when tyrants like Winston Churchill are celebrated in modern Britain. His thoughts on the Bengal famine of 1943 and his inaction during that time which caused the death of an estimated 2 million people due to starvation is a matter of public record.

arrayjumper··on Android Oreo
In android it works right now on the app toolbar with a long touch of a button for which you want to see the tooltip (if it is programmed right). The text shows up sort of like a toast message.
arrayjumper··on A startup’s Firebase bill suddenly increased from $25 to $1750 per month
This feels like a way to make more money off of developers. If you can't set a limit, you might end up spending more.
arrayjumper··on Why Japanese leaders attacked Pearl Harbor
Pakistan? Their democracy is a joke. The military holds all the power as evidenced by the multiple military coups in their past

Can't tell whether this is sarcasm/toy-product or if it is real.

> For example, in some european countries, Game of Thrones is available through Netflix.

I'm not questioning your conclusion but your premise is false. Game of thrones is not available on Netflix in any country (https://flixsearch.io/search/game%20of%20thrones)

arrayjumper··on Why drivers in China intentionally kill the pedestrians they hit
That's why having insurance is a requirement for driving in most countries.

Hehe. I recognised your username from /r/india. Got a laugh out of this :)

arrayjumper··on Tesla's relative asks Elon Musk for a donation to finish the Tesla Museum
The Oatmeal probably should have tried to first contact Tesla Motors or Elon Musk privately. There was no need to resort to a public plea.

Its a lose lose for Mr. Musk now. If he pays up then he'll be open to future requests. If he doesn't he'll be the billionaire dick who won't pay up for a good cause.
